Re: boot.img size and diskboot.img question

Thanks Andy, I was reading that "Advanced Format Disks", since 2009, have sector sizes of 4096 bytes which would explain the 4K boot.img file I think.

boot.img size and diskboot.img question

I was of the opinion that boot.img had to fit in sector 0 of the MBR so it needs to be less than 512 bytes; however, looking at the file on my system it is 4kB, any idea why?

Code: Select all

$ ls -sh /boot/grub/i386-pc/boot.img
4.0K /boot/grub/i386-pc/boot.img
Also, where is the diskboot.img file stored ?

Re: Libreoffice JNI Exception

I went for the nuclear option and I have reinstalled Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa from scratch as against the upgrade from Mint 20.0 Ulyana I had previously done. The integration of Zotero with LibreOffice works fine now. $ java --version openjdk 11.0.9.1 2020-11-04 Version: 6.4.6.2 Build ID: 1:6.4.6-0ubu...

20.1 Keyboard problem

Hi, I upgraded to Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa and in general, I am happy with it, so it took a day or so for me to notice, to the point of annoyance, that repeat key function is not working. It started as I held down the left arrow key to scroll back through a command to fix an error. Then I noticed that...

I installed LO7 on Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa. When I open Impress presentation I cannot see background images on the slides. I checked the Master Slide and the image is there fine. Back to LO6.4 for me.

Re: Update manager problem

Karl,

There is no output from that command, yet the orange dot persists on the update manager. It appears stuck in the update of the Nvidia graphics drivers v455.

PS Why don't the Image tags work on this forum?

[SOLVED]: Install Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia on a Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 2

I recently acquired a Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 in the post in the middle of lock-down due to the Civid-19 pandemic. With great excitement I hurried to rid myself of the Microsoft operating system I was forced to accept to buy the hardware (a very unfair tax I might add) and replace it with my favour...

[SOLVED]: HDMI port, not working

Awesome @roblm that worked a treat, thank you so much for your help. It is something that will appear again with Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” though. I tried installing Ubuntu 20.04 to see if that fixed the problem a few days ago and it hadn't. Anyway, thank you for solving this problem. I changed to a 5....

Dear @roblm You said in your third post: It appeared to me from that statement that the wireless problem was fixed, so why install the other 3 newer kernels. [ I moved back from 5.6 to the final 5.5 kernel in case the graphics problem was kernel related ] The lspci -nnk | grep -EA3 "3D|VGA"...

Dear @roblm I have tried everything to make this work, I appreciate your help. To your questions; 1. You previously installed a driver downloaded from Nvidia’s website. Re: HDMI port, not working

@roblm, thank you for your help, I posted what you requested below. I have been doing some further troubleshooting and it appears as if the Nvidia drivers are not loaded by the kernel. Prime select is nvidia and it looks like nvidia is the driver associated with Device-2 (from the inxi -G command). ...
