Re: Replacement KDE distros... Feedback here!

... If soon-to-be ex-MintKDE users are determined to remain in the *buntu-derivative universe for their next P5 OS, Maui is a fine choice. If said ex-users are willing to be a bit braver & leave the *buntu-derivatives, openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE provides a stunning P5 experience**, with a robust c...

Re: Skype replacement for LM, Windows, and tablets

Skype 5 was a mess, but the recent release 8.10.0.4 is much approved.

Windows Desktop, Mac and Linux 8.10.0.4 begins rolling out November 6, 2017, and releases gradually over the next two weeks.

Re: Updating ImageMagick???

I've noticed there's an update ImageMagick-7.0.6-1 but looking on the website http://www.imagemagick.org/script/download.php I can see the package is a .rpm? Strangely too, ImageMagick isn't listed in my applications, but if I right click an image I have the option to open with ImageMagick. Did I s...

Where is "Fit to Page" in Libreoffice Writer

Trying to find "Fit to Page" in Libreoffice (5.4) Writer. Looked at Format -> Page and File -> Print -> Properties. I did find "Fit to Page" in the HP Device Manager -> Print Settings -> Image Printing. Calc has a Scaling option, but Writer doesn't, or am I looking in the wrong p...

Re: Run pluma from script and wait for file close

Thanks - nice info re the colon-dash. I run this script from an icon on the desktop so I'm not opening a terminal. I could do but I prefer just to see the editor then when the editor quits the rest of the script does its magic silently. Agree :-) Just to put it out there, a quick fix to the quick f...

Re: Run pluma from script and wait for file close

Ok thanks. I'll leave it until I decide to upgrade to Mint 18 or 19. I'll just have to run a separate script after the edit. xenopeek is right, need a different editor. The pluma from your script is just passing the file to the already running instance of pluma and terminating. A possible quick fix...

Printing - hplip

I have hplip 3.15.2 installed on 17.3. I am having problems printing, especially w/libreoffice. I am looking for bug fixes. I went to the hplip site and went through the download script and it came back with the text below, which says 3.16.8 is supplied by LM. I could not find it in the repo. Am I l...

Re: Skype: Echo test works, but people can't hear me.

I don't understand it myself. As far as I understand it, echo test is effectively a Skype account that is automated so it reproduces the same processing chain as other calls. I know from experience that Skype for Linux won't connect with audio to Skype business and the person on the other end confi...

Re: Skype: Echo test works, but people can't hear me.

Has anyone changed "/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-input-internal-mic.conf" or "analog_input.conf.common" for this no-sound/microphone issue? I've never changed any PA system file, so I'll have to do some reading, but this came in a couple of search results. There ...

Re: Skype: Echo test works, but people can't hear me.

I suppose that there is a problem with audio levels. Quiet voice in microphone (Skype, recording, etc.) -> https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=222162 Prior to 5.4 this all worked. I've been using pavucontrol for volume control. The Echo test works. This is impossible to debug. Something I'...

Skype: Echo test works, but people can't hear me.

I am having MAJOR problems with Skype. I have a logitech usb headset. I do the Echo Test and everything works fine (I can hear and the mic works). But when I make a call, the other side can not hear me (voice or keypad). Everything looks okay in pavucontrol. The sink and source look correct. The pre...

Re: How to open an SQLite3 file in the terminal?

PS the hexdump worked, I got data - plenty of it. Not sure what any of it means though. Got line after line of stuff like this: 00009ff0 90 9e 62 a0 b6 d5 60 2c 8c ba c0 16 6b 51 46 5a Are these memory addresses? It's your actual data in hex format, at that offset into the file. The file format is ...

Re: How to open an SQLite3 file in the terminal?

When I do .databases, it shows the entire file path. It's looking like the open was not successful. When I do .tables, it shows: sqlite> .tables cookies meta You run the command like: sqlite3 /home/user/.config/chromium/Default/Cookies .tables Any more feedback from the command? Couple of thoughts: ...

Re: What you'll do when Firefox drops support for XUL addons?

Current: FF55.0.2 I didn't think I was a big customizer... I'm not prone to flashy things. I try to stick to functional, usability and accessibility. Over the years, a lot of hours have been spent "customizing" and some of it just isn't worth the time. You sort of learn that over the years...
