Re: LibreOffice pages jump w/o provocation - Fixed [ not solved like I wanted ]

Does it only happen to files with a docx extension, like this bug - Bug 116907 - Save/autosave still moves view back to cursor position in case of docx files As a work around, what if you saved the file as an odt while working on it, but docx when done. On some bug systems, you can vote on bugs that...

Scan - Process Image - Slideshow - DVD - Burn

SlideShow for DVD Create a DVD with Bombono Scan I'm still trying to figure this one out, I'm testing with SimpleScan, XSane, and gscan2pdf (saves to other formats too). I have mainly used xsane from gimp and post-processed images in gimp. But apps today, actually can do a lot of things automatical...

Re: Can anyone recommend software for removing metadata?

In checking with search engines and also using Software Manager, I've come across MAT (Metadata Anonymisation Toolkit). Unfortunately it's a package that's broken. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding software that's good at removing (and viewing) metadata? Command line: exiftool Example:...

If you can do all that using digiKam, then it is certainly worth a try. Presumably digiKam and gmic will also work in Mate.
Install the appimage .
It's large. KDE has a ton of libraries.

Re: Problem trying to save Ksnip screenshots.

If I understand correctly, I was able to reproduce the problem. Although there seems like multiple issues around Save. I did see the Title still said Unsaved some times, although in one case it was really saved in both 1.4 and 1.5. I think this is your issue. It definitely wants an extension. In you...

Re: When should I install flatpaks over standard applications?

The point of things like flatpaks is to get around a nasty Linux problem. There are just too many package management systems, library versions, DEs, APIs, and, yes, distros. It's a nightmare trying to write software for all those different systems. SO flatpaks etc basically have the needed librarie...

Re: {SOLVED]Photozoom Pro Alternative

Just wanted to add GMIC . There is a stand-alone GUI or a GIMP plugin. Get it from the web site though, the repositories are too old. This is image manipulation and repair software. Also digikam . digiKam is an advanced open-source digital photo management application that runs on Linux, Windows, an...

Try out any gimp video by Akkana Peck (GIMP Uncovered: Understanding Images and Image Editing) . Go through one of her tutorials . It is older but still applies. Learn the basics - what the tools do, how to make selections, and how to use layers. Then the best way to learn gimp is to go through tuto...

Re: Multiple entries with same name in "Open With" dialog

Thank you for the very informative response. I had to think about this for awhile :-) Expanding "Use a custom command" (UCC) is a useful tip. It would be nice if UCC showed the entire command from the Exec key the desktop file. In XFCE-Thunar, when UCC is expanded, the display list becomes gray/disa...

It appears that gio replaces gvfs-open which replaced gnome-open.

I'm going to stick the with the desktop agnostic xdg-open.

ksnip looks nice. I'll definitely look at those links. Re: Because of the Facebook data scandal, should Linux Mint delete its Facebook page?

What do you mean lmuserx4849? Linux Mint does not install any Facebook or other social media entries in your menu. Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon does come with Online Accounts settings and that has the option to configure a Facebook account (among many other websites and services), but if you don't conf...

Tricks to reduce the size and keep the quality of screenshots

I thought I was really happy with KSnapshot in KDE4 (not sure what it is called in KDE5), until I came across Shutter . Wow. Super nice. Lots of features. My only concern, is it being maintained, and that's sort of a big one :-( Having said that, I still end up, resizing, reducing colors, or reducin...

Re: Because of the Facebook data scandal, should Linux Mint delete its Facebook page?

I just wish Linux Mint and other distributions would stop polluting our systems with facebook files of any sort. Why does every social media site have to occupy our hard drives and applications' menu lists? Why can't they be separate files/packages that are installed by choice and applications just ...
