Re: Bitcoin - cash up...

A lot of the Bitcoin News sites are reporting today that 80% of all the coins have already been mined , I didn't realize it was so close to mining them all. But anyone can create a Cryptocurrency . But the "Chinese authorities plan to block domestic access to central cryptocurrency tra...

Re: Which book on software testing would you recommend for a beginner

There are general topics that can be covered, but I think of this subject as language/environment specific. In the Window's world it use to be "Code Complete". For the Java language, "Effective Java" (although getting kind of old). Since the book you mentioned covers java, search...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 KDE freezes

Here are some other thoughts: Since this is KDE, and it is a new install, maybe the file indexes are being built. The good news, the initial build is done once. Go to System Setting < Workspace > File Search > Enable File Search I don't use this feature, so can't say much more. Turn off special effe...

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 KDE freezes

Just to add to ClixTrix's response... To view/change the video/display driver, in the Main Menu look for something similar to System Settings. In the hardware section there is an app, "Driver Manager" (You probably can get to Driver Manager directly from the main menu too, instead of going...

Re: Skype doesnt work anymore

I don't know anyone on LM 17.3 that can run skypeforlinux 8.13.02. They all have had to downgrade to 8.11.0.4. This goes against the MS Requirements for skypeforlinux : Version 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04+ 64-bit Debian 8.0+ 64-bit OpenSUSE 13.3+ 64-bit Fedora Linux 24+ Note: They should have added qnome-ke...

Re: Where to turn for support with other distros?

So, in the past year or so since I completely ditched Windows I've played with a ton of different distrobutions. Regardless of popularity, I seem to have trouble getting any help on their respective forums. Is there a subforum here where I may post questions regarding other distrobutions? You folks...

It isn't something I'd use, but I've seen references to it. I don't see it in the repository (LM 18.3).

Re: Seeking PDF viewer/utility with specific capabilities

There is something you can try. The strategy is to have a file manager show you the PDFs thumbnails (1st page) so you can rename them easily. I will use Dolphin File Manager as example because it is quite standard, but you can probably do it with other file managers as well. ... This solution seems...

Re: Accounting Software

Im terrible at accounting for my small business and have always kept an eye out for something linux based. I did try GNUcash some time ago and found that because of my lack of accounting knowledge it was somewhat difficult for me to use. Right now I run a VM of windows and have QBs running. There a...

Accounting Software

I am revieiwing options for a desktop solution for small business accounting. I'm leaning towards gnucash. My second option is currently ledgersmb. Both are in the repository. Looking for the standard features: double-entry bookkeeping, invoices, reporting (balance sheet, income stmt, cash flow). Ni...

If you're running an older version of Mint, e.g. Mint 17, I've also encountered the problem with latest skypeforlinux 8.13.0.2. It's been reported at the skypeforlinux MS forum for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (basis for Mint 17). https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/skype/forum/skype_linux-skype_startms-skype_...

Merci Orschiro, I found some packages there to install and then a relogin and bingo. Thanks Pete Is your setup a Mate desktop with some KDE applications like dolphin? What packages did you end up installing? I was looking at the link from the second entry and I don't have those packages (LM 18.3). ...

Re: Working with multi-line

---snip--- Unless I'm being blonde, I think there's a typo there or something, because that loop will do nothing; the first action is to continue (thus skipping the remaining code). I updated the example: [[on some condition ]] && continue. I use this all the time to build a command from an...

LM 18.3 This is weird. In 17.3, I use to be able to see the boot countdown on the grub menu in the message, "the highlighted entry will be executed automatically in 10s", but now it just stays at 10s..., and then continues. In other words, the 10 doesn't change to 9, 8, 7, etc. There is al...

stop job is running for session c1 of user lightdm 1min 30s

Linux Mint 18.3 I boot the machine, but do not login. I shut down the machine, and sometimes I see: a stop job is running for session c1 of user lightdm 1min 30s . 1 min 30 seconds is forever , especially if it happens several times. Anyone else seen this and know why? Is there anything that can be ...

Whatever you purchase, I'd also suggest buying a battery backup with surge protection to protect your investment. Bought a couple of Dell XPS 8920 at a local Costco (US). Just wanted the hardware and they have a reputation for good customer service/exchanges, which is a good thing since one was dead...

Ok, I've deleted the files and for some bonkers reason it now works. So solved !!!??? Probably getting the system gimp-gmic. I believe it would have been installed in /usr/lib/gimp verses if you install it locally $HOME/.gimp-2.8. You could check either from the Software Manager, Synaptic Package M...
