Re: Update doesn't query available files

austin.texas,

Still no joy in Muddville.

I tried the mergelist fix several times with and without clearing the cache as recommended by the process.

I have to re-run the "sudo apt-get update" process to re-populate the list of selected packages to update.

Thanks though,

Re: Update doesn't query available files

austin.texas,

I spoke too soon. The failing system now locates several updates. I select "update", the system asks for my password, thinks about things for a second and then just goes back to the display of the list of updates. Noting is downloaded nor installed.

Re: Update doesn't query available files

Cosmo, You are correct that the password is requested after the "Downloading Package Information" runs because I select "refresh". The password is then requested when I select "Install updates". Brain fade on my part The failing system never goes through the "Downloading Package Information" process...

Re: Update doesn't query available files

austin.texas,

The two systems give the same response to the "inxi -r" command.

Thanks,

Re: Update doesn't query available files

Additional symptoms: The failing system does NOT ask for my password before telling me that the system is up to date. The failing (cloned) system was made on the 22nd of November 2016 and got updates just fine up until the 27th of March 2017. This nasty behavior is a recent thing. Thanks, bitbanger

(Abandoned) Update doesn't query available files

I have two Linux Mint 17 systems. The second started as a clone of the first using Macrium Reflect. When I refresh the updates process the clone doesn't go through the process of querying the available resources for new software. I am only told that the system is up to date. Since the original syste...

How do I get the terminal prompt shorter?

On my mac system (UNIX) I use the assignment export PS1="\W\$" in the .profile file in the user folder ("~"). This works exactly as I desire. On my Linux Mint 17 systems I still get the additional information about my user name and computer, both of which I already know and do not need to be reminde...

Mint 13 Update missing mirrors (SOLVED)

The update process takes a very long time because 7 of the mirror sites are unavailable. They have names of the form *medibuntu*. Can someone identify the files where these resources are identified so that I can edit them out?

Thanks,

Re: Legacy GRUB

Thanks for the reply. This is what happens when you do hand written notes on stuff and don't remember the syntax. I have no idea what auto complete was and will investigate that as well. The truly weird thing is that I got the command to work WITH the space once I got the path to the update command ...

Legacy GRUB (SOLVED)

I find GRUB2 to be opaque, the documentation feeble. I went back to legacy GRUB on my MINT-13 multiboot system (Windows XP and Mint 13). All was well. I even added ANDROID-86 after manually entering the information to the menu.lst file. However, I cannot get legacy GRUB to install in Mint 17. I used...

Jamesc359,

I guess that I was not clear. I note that you have a truly awesome avatar associated with each of your posts. I am unhappy with the flag as an avatar for myself. I have another that I prefer. How do I update the avatar for this forum?

Thanks,

How do I change icons? (SOLVED)

To all,

Changing icons in Windows is a trivial exercise. I hate to think that Mint can't do as good a job but I cannot find any information on this.

I appreciate any help I can get.
