has anyone tried to update the keys by sudo apt update?...DAMIEN

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
Haven't tried that, but the problem solved itself. Guess Google fixed the problem. Everything works now.

Re: Google updates fail this morning - invalid signatures

Looks like the Chrome PPA is fixed but Earth is still bad. Probably will be all good in a little while.

Mint Forum Unavailable

For quite a long time today, and earlier in the week the forum was unavailable. I wondered if it was just maintenance, a server failure, or a DOS attack.

Re: Kernel 4.15.0.47.49

Related or not, I'm not sure. After the reboot to activate the new kernel, konsole disappeared from the panel and the menu. It reinstalled from the software manager with no problem. I first noticed when I did an "Open Console" command from Krusader. It informed me that konsole was missing.

Re: Kernel 4.15.0.47.49

Download finally finished after about 40 minutes. Installed OK, rebooted. My wireless mouse works, which was the problem with the previous kernel. So far everything seems OK.

Re: Kernel 4.15.0.47.49

Download is very, very slow. Failed on my usual server. Had to change servers. I assume heavy usage to d/l the new kernel.

Re: What's the best way to copy a large amount of data?

I've got a little over 1 TB of data I need to copy from an external hard disk to an internal hard disk. I tried just dragging and dropping, but it's been at 12% for a while now and I feel like it's stuck. Be patient. It may not be stuck but just transferring a full buffer. That's a lot of data, so ...

Another peculiarity makes the drive owned by root. Have I missed a setting that would avoid root ownership (and the need to change it)?

Thanks
I have the same problem. If I format to FAT or NTFS it installs me as the owner. If EXT anything it's root.

Re: How long should a WPA password be?

WPA2 passwords can be guessed offline, so let's do some math... A GTX 1080 at the moment is $800 so let's assume your attacker has that. According to this benchmark it gets ~8600 million SHA1 guesses a second. According to this StackOverflow post a WPA2 password takes at least 4096 SHA1 guesses to ...

Re: How long should a WPA password be?

Living in a rural area with no close neighbors the only WIFI signals I can see are my own, so not a lot of chance of an interloper. I use Lastpass for all my passwords including WIFI, but a simple one for the guest channel, so I don't have to look it up to pass it on to a guest. The master p/w for L...

Re: The joys of living in Rural Areas

Peeing in the garden.... Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. We live in rural North Georgia, in the mountains (with no street lights, of course). A neighbor was having a beer on his front deck at night recently, decided he had to get rid of some of it and stepped around the corner of the house to p...

Re: Darts Scorekeeper Package

Too many years ago to count, I wrote such a program for the BBC Micro Computer while living in England. Sorry, but I don't think it'd run on Linux even if I still had a copy. Nice exercise, though.

Fido security key question

I've been toying with the idea of getting a Fido/Yubikey dongle to access various online accounts. Here's my question which I hope somebody can answer: If two people need to access the same account (for instance a joint bank or credit card account ) how does this work? Can they both have a key and e...

Re: Kernel 4.15.0.46.48

OK, having said I'd blacklist the kernel I can't figure out how to do it. I've entered it every way I can think of in the update manager blacklist but it keeps showing up in the update list. I know I've done this in the past, but never had a problem. I've tried: 4.15.0.46 4.15.0.46-48 4.15.0.46.48 L...

Re: Kernel 4.15.0.46.48

Installed 4.15.0.46.48 this morning. On initial bootup mouse did not work, although as near as I could tell everything else did. Logitech wireless mouse. Rebooted and reverted to 4.15.0.45. All OK. Removed 4.15.0.46 and I'll blacklist it. Nice to have the daily Timeshift backup on hand just in case....

Optical drive not recognized after Kernel upgrade

Mint Cinnamon 19.1 Upgraded to kernel 4.15.0-45 from 4.15.0-43. After upgrade to kernel 4.15.0-45 my optical drive is sometimes recognized, sometimes not. When it's recognized it works fine. Often I have to reboot to get the system to see the drive. I'm ripping a large number of dvd's to m4v format ...

Re: Memory stick wierd results on format to ext4

Yes, a really cheap device, as in free. Looks really nice, though.... aluminum case with a really neat capless slide to cover the USB connector. Shame the execution doesn't match the packaging. Think I'll consign it to the circular file cabinet.

Memory stick wierd results on format to ext4

Mint Cinnamon 19.1 Kernel is 4.15.0-43 I have a 64gb off-brand (Eaget) USB3 memory stick which I received as a freebie. It's Chinese, of course, and the leaflet that came with it is an absolutely incomprehensible Chinese to English translation. It came formatted as FAT and since I wanted to use it f...
