Re: What happened to Cinnamenu?

Sorry, I just found this topic, and I'm confused. I don't remember ever using Cinnamenu in the past. I have Mint 19.3 (upgraded from 19.2), and I opened the applets and see cinnamenu right on top. I added it, and it seems to work fine. For right now, I have it assigned to Super-R, and the regular m...

Go to the NordVPN website support section. You can do a live chat with support. They know their stuff.

VPN Lookout Applet Doesn't Work with Wireguard

I'm using Mint 19.3 Cinnamon, NordVPN client and VPN Lookout applet. The applet works fine to indicate whether VPN is connected or not as long as I'm using OpenVPN. When I switch to NordLynx (wireguard) the applet always shows disconnected. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'd like to experiment wi...

Re: EXT4 vs. exFat vs. NTFS...

Again, thanks for all the responses. This is very helpful. One other issue does come to mind, though. Will devices such televisions, routers, disc players, etc., which were manufactured before August, 2019 (and not made by Microsoft) read exFAT drives? I have a smart TV which was manufactured prior...

Re: EXT4 vs. exFat vs. NTFS...

I've got a laptop with Mint Cinnamon which I back up with Timeshift. I use an EXT4 formatted flash drive for that. Other than that all my flash drives are Exfat or Fat32.

Re: EXT4 vs. exFat vs. NTFS...

According to Google Support's Chromebook Help page, EXT4 won't work with Chromebook. Here's the list of file systems that will work:
FAT (FAT16, FAT32, exFAT)
HFS+ (read-only on journaled HFS+)
ISO9660 (read-only)
MTP
NTFS
UDF (read-only)

Re: Backup Scheme

Aptik doesn't seem to consider that users create their user account as part of the OS installation process, and that many machines are used by a single person. Linux uses numbers to refer to user accounts. The default is user ID 1000 in Linux Mint, but there is no guarantee that a different distrib...

Re: Backup Scheme

Thanks for the information. I just did an aptik backup to external HD, followed by a fresh install of Cinnamon 19.3 and then an aptik restore. The restore immediately followed the 19.3 installation finish and reboot. Simply installed aptik using the info in the confirmation email, furnished the key ...

Re: Text D&D adventure games

Thanks for the suggestions. In addition, I've come across:
https://classicreload.com "Over 6000+ DOS/Windows and Console games preserved for future generations."
Runs emulators automatically on Chrome/Chromium and Firefox. Seems to work well.

[Solved] Text D&D adventure games

Back in my Commodore 64/BBC Micro days I used to play text only D&D games (ex: "You are in a large room. There's a spear here"). With all the idle time during the shutdown I've been thinking about finding one that I could play on Linux, but so far haven't been successful. I've found a few that try t...

Re: Timeshift + USB install

Dave4000, maybe you're operating under a basic misconception. Your live USB stick Mint is basically being used as a "rescue disk" when booted. It won't install a fresh (and probably outdated) operating system unless you tell it to. It's running entirely in RAM. What it will do is to run the built-in...

Re: Timeshift + USB install

Hi thanks for your help. The timeshift snapshots are on a separate drive to the boot drive, I just have timeshift snapshots on that drive. Timeshift runs on the usual routine of daily weekly monthly routine. So to use Timeshift to restore your system, just boot Mint from the live USB stick. On the ...

Re: Thunderbird Add-on "Use BCC Instead"

No joy. The main problem is that the add-on description mentions changing options but I can't find any way to access any options. I was hoping to find something in a right-click menu, the tools menu, or something in the compose dialog, but nothing. The github entries don't seem to help. The informat...

Grub menu displays slowly in low-resolution

I'm running Mint Cinnamon 19.3 on an Acer Aspire E15 laptop with SSD. I was having problems with boot taking a long time and couldn't find the reason so decided to do a clean install of 19.3. As I was exploring why the slow boot prior to the new install I noticed that the grub menu displayed in low ...

Thunderbird Add-on "Use BCC Instead"[Solved]

I'm running Thunderbird 68.4.1. and Mint Cinnamon 19.3. I installed the add-on Use Bcc Instead updated for Tbird 64 and above. I've been searching for a couple hours, going through every possibility I can think of, but can't find any way to set the add-on options. I want to default to BCC on all out...

Brave is on my list. Can these be had from the repository? If not, where does one get them?
Go to brave.com. It will recognize you're using Linux and take you to the installation page.
