Re: A review of Mint by Dedoimedo

I am one of those who has poor eyes, and fonts make a huge difference. Furthermore, the ability to resize panel and menu items/fonts makes a huge difference. And the solution is not to use the rather ugly (imo) high contrast themes.. Look, I understand developers have their target audience. I unders...

Re: Why oh Why can't we make Linux better looking

I used my Macbook Pro last night, and once more was amazed at how good it looks in terms of graphics compared to either Windows or Linux. Well see, that's where folks differ. Whenever I have to help my wife on her Mac, I can't stand the look, and can't wait to get back to Linux. Which I have lookin...

Re: Why phpBB?

I very much like the look. It's easy on the eyes, it looks fresh, it looks clear. It's very easy to navigate.
Am I inadequate? Am I stupid?
I must be, judging by many comments.

This is a very late comment, but I just saw it.
antiX and MX are not based on Ubuntu. They're based on Debian.

Thanks for the tip, MrEen. Never knew that!

That was a fascinating article, Moem.
I admit, I've always been partial to the cute Tux, not the Tuxes (Tuxi?) with submachine guns blowing away windows.
I was glad to see Linux wanted them "cuddly", lol.

Re: ipad detected but can't connect to it

Dukto allows you to transfer files from your computer to your ipad. I'm not sure if it's in the repositories, but it has a download page.
You must also install it from the app store to your ipad. It's free.
I have tried jumping through hoops to directly connect, but it's never worked.

Re: Grub problem after installing 18.3 XFCE over 18.3 Cinnamon

I appreciate the replies. I tried to update grub from "grub rescue" yesterday, but that didn't work. I don't remember the output (I wish I did), but it basically told me that was useless. I can't work on the computer for a couple of days, but I will probably just do a reinstall to see what...

Grub problem after installing 18.3 XFCE over 18.3 Cinnamon

I had Cinnamon working fine on an iMac. I decided to try XFCE and used the option to erase entire disk to install it. On reboot, I got the message: "error: file '/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found. Entering rescue mode... grub rescue" In Cinnamon, I had altered the grub file to have grub ...

Re: Who no longer trusts or uses Facebook?

I don't use it, and guess what? They still have a 'shadow profile' about me. That's right, and what gets me is that this has been known for a long time. It was a while ago when it came out that the founder called Facebook users a bunch of ... I would direct people to the "proofs", and the...

Re: Finally did it - Sorry macOS

That's good news stephanieswitzer.
1 week ago I installed Mint Cinnamon on my wife's 8(?) year old iMac. It couldn't receive updates, it was slow as molasses, and she couldn't get any software since nothing is being made for that old of an iMac.
It's running great!
Glad to see you're also happy.

Re: Because of the Facebook data scandal, should Linux Mint delete its Facebook page?

It is a pity, that there are authors like George Orwell and people do not learn anything, when they read their books. I question whether he or anyone else is even read these days. But yeah, I'm constantly shaking my head at the obliviousness to what's gone before in history and in the writings of g...

Cody73, when you type your password in the terminal, it will not show up. That's for security reasons.
Just type in your password and hit return.

Re: Censorship on the forum

+1 Very hard to read - not the content so much as the punctuation. Louis-Ferdinand Céline in 1936 wrote Death on the Installment Plan (English translation) in which the whole book was written with paragraphs full of ellipses. No periods except at the end of paragraphs. All the rest of his books wer...

The superb "YouTube-DL" is a console terminal application and it is run from there. There is a wonderful desktop GUI for this called "YouTube-DLG" which you can also install and use. I'd like to thank you phd21 for these recommendations. I've been using it for three days, and it...

I don't have the knowledge to help, but to let you and others know - I do get sound from the video you linked to, so the problem is on your end.
