Re: Burn in problem on the screen

I'm having this problem only when the screen is turned off, not if I'm using the laptop or the screen is on with a static ...

Re: Burn in problem on the screen

After using the laptop for a while the problem goes away. That would tend to indicate the problems is not screen burn. Screen burn used to occur predominantly on CRT monochrome screens that displayed a largely static image all day every day. With the advent of colour screens the problems was minimi...

Re: Wifi 5GHz on linux mint 19

Normally the iw reg get will show 00 for a code which is generic and may limit what 5GHz channels are used, do iwlist chan to see what channels you can use, you may find the channel used by your router is not in the list and setting your country code might fix it I can't understand the results I'm ...

Re: Wifi 5GHz on linux mint 19

See https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2354328&p=13614520&#post13614520 Especially Then set your regulatory domain explicitly. Check yours: sudo iw reg get If you get 00, that is a one-size-maybe-fits-all setting. Find yours here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2 Then set it t...

Re: Wifi 5GHz on linux mint 19

are you using a router that is dual band (both 2.4 and 5ghz compatiable?)...if so, have you accessed the router to see what is connecting with each device either 2.4 or 5? yes, the router is dual band and everything is set up correctly from that end. In fact I'm connected to the 5GHz with my phone....

Wifi 5GHz on linux mint 19

I have a laptop that should be compatible with the 5Ghz wifi (802.11ac if not mistaken), however I can't see any 5Ghz network in my network manager. I always overlooked at this but now I'd like to give a try and see if there's any difference. Is there anything I have to do to enable the 5Ghz? Networ...

Re: [SOLVED] Is mokutil preinstalled in mint 19?

It's not a default package in 19. To check what was present at initial install you can review the contents of /var/log/installer/initial-status.gz This command will extract the contents to your home, parse the file to produce a package list and display that list in your text-editor. cp /var/log/ins...

Interestingly it is in the manifest and is used by the installer - looking back at apt logs it gets purged from the installed OS as part of installation.
It took my attention today because I had an update pending for this package and I found it weird.

Re: Is mokutil preinstalled in mint 19?

Looks like it's preinstalled: apt search mokutil i mokutil - tools for manipulating machine owner keys p mokutil:i386 - tools for manipulating machine owner keys Thanks. How can I check this if I don't have a fresh installed machine?

Re: [SOLVED] I've got a virus on Mint

The first DNS is PIA's I think. The second is Cloudflare. I've got no experience in using VPN's I was just interested in case i ever decided I needed to start using one. Check this page then https://www.privacytools.io/ I'm very happy with PIA, I'm changing only because it is US based. When I start...

Re: I've got a virus on Mint

Is a DNS server hijack a possibility? What does systemd-resolve --status | grep "DNS Servers:" output? Edit - just read your last post - so which VPN? Probably one to avoid. :) It could be to be honest. My DNS at the moment are: DNS Servers: 209.222.18.222 DNS Servers: 1.1.1.1 I tried to change the...

Re: I've got a virus on Mint

Just a thought, any other computers in the same network that are affected? Is it possible that your router got hacked, not the PC? WOW ! This just made me realize that my laptop is under VPN while the other computer is not. Disconnected from the VPN and the problem is gone. I didn't know that the V...

Re: I've got a virus on Mint

if there is any installed add-ons in any of those browsers, then try disabling / removing them, as an first off option. then, if there is any reset option, then do that as well. the issue will be something that is common to all of those browsers, as an Linux Virus, whilst very un-likely, but it's n...
