Re: Lost environment images after hardware reset

You don't need to fix anything, all the mentioned tools are included in the live-cd (the one you boot into before you install the os)

Re: Lost environment images after hardware reset

What is the specifications of that computer (model name / year, etc) You may want to test out if there is a hardware fault that cause the failure. - Use Memtest (boot option on the live-cd) to check that the ram itself are in good condition - Use the disks tool to check the S.M.A.R.T data of the mai...

Re: External HD Issues

You wiould want to take ownership of the drive. How did you create the partition? If you did use Gparted for inscance, tha need to run as root and therefore normally only root have access to it. To take ownership you should run: sudo chown -R bigh /media/bigh/whatevernameyougavethispartition I put y...

Re: Backup USB Drive to another.

That is a very interesting question.

Do you intend to always have both usb drives connected? Or do you opt to go travel, and remove one of them everytime you do so?

Have you considered using btrfs to mirroring ?

Re: LibreOffice Calc pop-up "Import options" window every time the Paste keyboard shortcut

Ok, I see. Thing is : when copy from a web site, the clipboard contains not only the text itself but also all its formatting. The thing you ask for - what you want - would not be beneficial to most people, as one have to make a choice to include all formatting or just paste the text itself. But thin...

The standard question for such things : what did you do prior to this issue began?

Is this issue of yours limited to one program or is it system wide ?

Does the Ctrl key work normally otherwise ?

Re: Portable Linux Mint

Normally, if you use the same virtual machine software on your portable Linux, there should be no reason why not.

Of course - that is the disk container file should not be encrypted - that may be an issue for you if it is located in windows user folder.

Re: partition advice, ssd hdd virtual box

There is many ways you can do this. First off - I would recommend you to disable your HDD while installing OS on the SSD. Just as a precausion so that the boot loader doesn't end up on the fist drive (somebody else on this forum with more experience than me may say something about if this may be an ...

Re: Best distro for old PC decked out with RAM and HDD space - old games, multimedia, web

Hi. Problem with your questionis that som many Linux distros does fall into the specifications. Or to turn it the other way around, if there is a specific windows related program you cannot run in a given Linux distro, then you probably won't manage to run it in other distros as well. Speaking from ...

Re: LibreOffice Calc pop-up "Import options" window every time the Paste keyboard shortcut

To be honest - I would expect LibO Math to ask for that, espechially when the text includes formatted text and characters that may be threaten as tabulator (aka csv based spreadsheet/tables). Which web browser are you copying from? Have you tried another web browser? What happens if you paste all te...

You shouldn't need to revert anything, just get an live-cd for an older version of Mint.

Forget that - I didn't see your last post before after I post this.

Re: LibreOffice should not pop-up "Import options" window every time the Paste keyboard shortcut

You need to elaborate step 1 or divide it up to more steps.

ie. what do you mean by "copy a number from a web site" ?

You also should inform is this is an issue strictly about tha Calc application or if you have similar issues to other applications in the LibO package.

Re: Cannot select or paste with mouse after changing battery

To determine if something is HW or software related, you can do this - see if the problem persists for all that you can posible test: Put your mouse/keyboard to another computer. Replace mouse/keyboard. Boot your computer using a Live-CD (no HW change at all). Any distro should do. If you find your ...

Re: sound humm Linx Mint 19 (mate)

Is this a old computer? I had this problem before - on two older computers actually) - and in both cases it turned out to be the motherboard itself (electrolyte capacitors going bad). If this is the case, it might be possible to repair, depending on your soldering skills. In mine case too, I noticed...

Re: Not getting the "Something else" screen while installing LM

You can try to use another method for writing iso to USB, you may try to use DD command.

Example that works for me (change iso file name/path and device to your need)

Code: Select all

sudo dd bs=4M if=input.iso of=/dev/sdx conv=fdatasync

There is this software Vuescan ( cost money ) that also is avaiable for Linux. You can try to run the freemium version to see if it communicates to your scanner nb: you need to run the program as root for it to detect any scanner. There is a way to make it work without root access, but that can wait...
