Re: Libreoffice problem with the View

The s.m.a.r.t. analysis reveal 47 sectors on the disk that is bad. The disk is not neccesary broken, but: I wouldn't trust it with important data without regular backup. This also may explain the failure you have, that is some part of the OS or Libre Office may be directly affected - and you've seen...

Re: for old PC's: decrease number of colors

Ok - Then I may assume you didn't installed Linux Mint yourself?

You see - there is three "versions" of Linux Mint, whereas the version that ship with XFCE is the most lightweight one (less demanding). I beleive in your case, it will help if you switch to that version.

Re: for old PC's: decrease number of colors

BUT: For those who are familiar with Linux codes / command lines, almost everything seems to be easy but the same issue is very difficult for other people. That is why I write the command in code tags, so it is more easy for you to copy/paste. To be specific, this is what you do: In web browser: Se...

Re: Libreoffice problem with the View

That is weird then. So, it might be a hardware issue, so I want you to do the following: Check your disk health status. There is Disk (menu item, somewhere), then select your boot drive, then click the menu button at top right corner and select "SMART data and self tests". Have a look at the smart a...

Re: Libreoffice problem with the View

Is this a new install / do you have made any modifications or replacement/installing of software before you notice this error ?

Does this error occur if you boot up to live desktop ?

Is there any other issues to the computer other than mentioned here ?

Re: for old PC's: decrease number of colors

Why can't you just reveal the HW speccs of your computer, GPU in particular ?

Please run in Terminal:

Code: Select all

lspci -vnn | grep VGA -A 12
Or

Code: Select all

lshw -numeric -C display

Re: for old PC's: decrease number of colors

Hi. What desktop version are you running ? Right now, I'm using a Dell Latitude D620 (2007 ish), upgraded to 3GB of ram. This one is working like a charm. If your computer is in the same neighbourhood about CPU, then XFCE or Mate should run just fine. I remember the days in Windows 9x world where 25...

Re: plug in new usb device crashes all usb ports

This is most probably a hardware problem. I have one computer, where the same thing happens - if a certain combinations of USB devices are connected to the same USB hub at the same time. So here is what you must do: Every time this happens, take notice on where each usb unit is (on what usb port and...

Re: Recommend gaming mouse for Linux Mint

I do know what mouse I'd not recommend, the razer deathadder mouse.

Me and several other users at toms hardware found it to act double-click when user just want single click. In my case the mouse worked well for some months before it started to "act up".

Re: AMD/ATI R481 Radeon X850 XT AGP - Disturbed screen and artefacts

New test of booting LM Cinnamon - It works, and is also relatively responsive despite old hw :D For the GPU - it seems to be unable to output any signal over DVI, only VGA - regardless of what OS i'm running on it (even BIOS/Post only appear on VGA). So that is obviously the GPU that have some error...

Re: AMD/ATI R481 Radeon X850 XT AGP - Disturbed screen and artefacts

I just found that I did something really stupid. I just found that both VGA and DVI cable was connected both on the monitor AND the Radeon card. Maybe that is why the desktop acts up on me  But I guess Cinnamon may be too heavy for that system anyway. Bothi Linux seems to run ok. I'm about to ...

Re: AMD/ATI R481 Radeon X850 XT AGP - Disturbed screen and artefacts

Can you let us know what distribution works for you? Would be helpful for others who are resurrecting old systems. Working at that right now. I loaded a number of Linux ISO images onto an usb drive using multibootusb, but somehow a lot of issues appear (applies MX linux, and also Soulus) after boot...

Re: AMD/ATI R481 Radeon X850 XT AGP - Disturbed screen and artefacts

Yes - it is an old rig, actually given extended life by replacing som bad capacitors on the main board (successfully indeed) :D

Ok, so then I can safely conclude that Cinnamon is overkill for this. No problem, I just try several distros until I find one that both fit and runs ok.

AMD/ATI R481 Radeon X850 XT AGP - Disturbed screen and artefacts

Hi. I bootet LM 19.1 Cinnamon, and when the desktop appeared in Live session, the screen looks pretty disturbed and with lots of artefacts (see attached photo). This is a clean boot, no boot parameters are changed. I was able to boot Linux Lite 4.2 live-cd and it appeared to works ok, no artefacts. ...

Re: Libre Office not printing

Could it be a problem with the black ink in the printer?

If ink cartridge is recently replaced, make sure that te piece of tape is removed (this affct many ink printers, not neccesary all).

What happens if you export to PDF, and then print from the exported PDF file ?
