Re: Mint 20 Mate Beta Issues, Suggestions

Added repos for AMD drivers, still not showing up in the driver manager, however the console reports they're being used. But I can't offload OBS-studio to the GPU, so something isn't right. AMD Radeon HD 5450 1gb of ram. Should handle all of Compiz and OBS simultaneously. Tempted to install Windows...

Re: Mint 20 Mate Beta Issues, Suggestions

I dissagree to statements, that MATE, GTK desktop, should come with QT applications installed by default. :!: If proposal is about K3B and other QT applications to be default, then think about proposing to return Mint KDE edition. About decorations. All they uses resources. I do not want that my MA...

Re: Mint 20 Mate Beta Issues, Suggestions

Yeah, the clock always breaks the bottom panel in the last several versions of Mint MATE. I continuously have to reset the panel, and then change it back to 12 hour mode, again, and again, and again.....

Re: Mint 20 Mate Beta Issues, Suggestions

Mate stock is right around 450 mb of ram usage. With Compiz enabled I'm hitting about 670 mb of usage. Added repos for AMD drivers, still not showing up in the driver manager, however the console reports they're being used. But I can't offload OBS-studio to the GPU, so something isn't right. Mint 20 Mate Beta Issues, Suggestions

Mint 20 Mate Beta Issues: Default app selections are poor. Gimp should be installed by default. Period. Also it should be pre-configured to be in single window mode. And be in the favorites in the Mint menu. Audacious is much lighter/better/faster than Rhythmbox which is bloated and slow. Should als...

Re: Make an .ISO from an Audio CD

The dd command (any variation) yields this:
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=file.iso
dd: error reading '/dev/cdrom': Input/output error
0+0 records in
0+0 records out
0 bytes copied, 0.0756072 s, 0.0 kB/s

....and yes I've tried /dev/sr0 and /dev/dvdrom

Also tried as root, and several other variations.

Make an .ISO from an Audio CD

I've tried everything: DD commands, brasero (with a host of additional plugins), k3b, searching constantly: I CANNOT get an .ISO from an audio CD. Any ideas? I'm trying to make an .ISO of my OWN CD of christmas music that I recorded for myself (including one original!). So this isn't piracy. These a...

Is there a GUI way to create a virtual output? Seems like that might do what I want.

Dual HDMI Audio Outputs.

Hey y'all! So I've got Mint Mate 19.3 on a desktop hooked up to TWO big HDMI TVs, but I can only get stereo to one or the other TV at a time. I'd like to get stereo out of both TVs, and then just pan one all the way left, and pan the other all the way right. But in Sound Preferences, I can switch Pr...

Re: My review of Mint 18

Guys, what are you still doing here? Most of the Linux world has adopted systemd. Including Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Fact of life. No amount of complaining, venting and heartbreaking bitter tears will ever change that. Live with it. However, in the fringes of the vast Linux ecosystem there ar...

Re: My review of Mint 18

Unfortunately, because anything based on Debian 8 is so unstable (literally have not had ONE install that did not require weekly or less reboots, I leave my machines running for months and years at a time), this has created a nightmare scenario for me supporting clients who now have no upgrade path...

Re: My review of Mint 18

I'm genuinely glad that so many systems are running OK for people with SystemD. This has not been my experience at all. I've had to revert many, many servers, desktops, and hypervisors back to Wheezy, or over to Devuan, mostly due to constant crashing. My review was completely honest. To suggest I w...

Re: Systemd and LMDE (The future)

Sorry for being dramatic. SUPER frustrated. Literally every OS I use is broken in the latest version due to SystemD. Mint Debian Proxmox All broken since taking the D. Crashes, Memory overruns, instability, lock ups. On a big variety of hardware, too: laptops, desktops, servers, VMs. I'm incredibly ...

Re: Systemd and LMDE (The future)

Goodbye Mint! I can't take the instability and nightmare of SystemD. I'll be migrating all my machines, and all 300+ of my client machines to Devuan. My reputation is too valuable to throw away on junk software. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=214262&p=1211782#p1211782 If you want ...

Re: systemd evil or not?

Evil? I have no idea. Crap? Absolutely! Every distro I've used with systemd is unstable, unreliable, inefficient, and crashes randomly for no reason. This is true on the server side as well as the desktop side. Devuan is working very similarly to Debian 7 for me on the server side. Which is a very, ...
