Re: Mount cifs share with user 1000 (standard user) R/W permissions
OMG - I was opening the directory that was created and the share was mounted within, and trying to write to that directory instead of subsequently opening the next directory that was the share directory. Once opened i was able to write to to it. What a stupid mistake, all the days wasted on this, I ...

Re: Mount cifs share with user 1000 (standard user) R/W permissions
Yes, I am sure. I can access it from my other computers both Windows and Linux. Further, when i try to do this same thing to a shared folder on another Cinnamon machine i get the same issue. So, same issue with NAS and shared directory from another Cinnamon machine. With regard to your screenshot ab...

Re: Mount cifs share with user 1000 (standard user) R/W permissions
I so with that worked. I just pulled that info from another post here on these forums and tried it and edited my original post, right when you were responding. I have attached a screenshot for your review. Well, the file was too large so i had to upload it to google drive: https://drive.google.com/f...

So I am trying to mount a TureNAS share and subsequently a shared directory from another linux machine automatically with the ability for standard users read write permissions. I have done my homework and googled the information and am able to easily moun...

Re: MATE on LMDE4
So I used LMDE on and off for years all the way back to LMDE 1. I just decided to give it a go again and see that there is no MATE option. So I googled LDME 4 MATE and found this thread. I was hoping for a crash course to install MATE as the primary GUI in LMDE. I realize I can open Synaptic and sea...

Is There A Way To Install A Compiz Plug-in
I want to add a plug-in to Compiz that seems to have been lost in time. It's the reflection plug-in aka reflex. Its super cool and gives transparent windows a still image in the background. Anyway, I know a lot of people aren't into desktop looks but I really enjoy it so i was wondering if there was...

[SOLVED] Screen Dimming on Laptop
I have Linux Mint 20 Mate OS installed on a few computers and laptops. The monitor dims in like 30 seconds or a minute after no interaction but for me that is too soon. I would like to change the dimming of the monitor to something like 2 or 5 mins. Is there a way to adjust the dimming delay? I know...

Find and Replace in Caja or Otherwise
I have a number subdirectories in a directory, containing a number of files in each. Mostly pictures and music that I have collected over the years. I have added certain markers to these file names such as dates, or comments that I would now like to remove. Is there a "Find and Replace function...

Re: notifications log or way to see past notifications?
Same here. Notification history is a no brainer.... doesn't make much sense to get a 10 or 15 second notification and never be able to see it again... if you aren't live monitoring the screen its kinna useless...

Compiz D-Bus plugin causes desktop GUI crash Mint Mate 20
When using Compiz, the DBus plugin instantly crashes the desktop. The mate panel disappears the window controls disappear and nothing works. When rebooted via power button, it reboots into the same issue. Fortunately Guake terminal works and I can launch CCSM and disable DBus plugin then I can reboo...

Re: Error Running Banshee after Mint 20 Upgrade
I may be wrong about this, but I thought that "banshee" was no longer a "maintained" software ?...Plus the fact that it is dependent on "mono"...DAMIEN https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=330540 Correct! But the OP is VERY determined to get back the u...

Re: Banshee is the best
I thinki you need to just find another player and hope like hell that banshee gets forked (though that's unlikely) rather than go through the bother of reverting your entire OS. There is no other player comparable. This is the issue... The only thing tht comes close is Plex, and then i would need s...

Re: Banshee is the best
Bottom line Sadly, Banshee is not integrated into many Linux distributions, mainly because of its Mono dependencies , which tend to create lots of problems nowadays. But if that is not an issue for you, go ahead and install the Banshee Media Player from your Linux distribution’s default software re...

Re: Banshee is the best
I suspect it was unmaintainable, the reason most FOSS projects go like this. A support foruim on a distro intended for beginners is probably not the best place to try to get devs for the project. I was hoping maybe the Mint devs would pick up the code and integrate it into the Mint OS making an alr...
