Re: Winamp

^Great post. Can only wholeheartedly recommend Audacious - for me, it was also the first Linux player to handle gapless playback reasonably well.

Re: What Linux OS IS SAFE for OLD Dell Inspiron 1100 {2003}

You could try Linux Mint 17.x 32-bit Xfce. [...] you could also install LXDE on top of Linux Mint Xfce and remove Xfce afterwards if you prefer Linux Mint.) This is what I've done on my netbook with similar specs. LibreOffice runs without problems (though I admittedly don't use it for resource-inte...

Re: Setting up automatic upgrades with unattended-upgrades

One question, probably stupid: does this, as described, only enable updates corresponding to levels 2 and 3 in the updater app, or also levels 4 and 5?

Re: Please make automatic updates user-friendly

Valid point.... For that target group (which unfortunately also includes my wife and my children), I've created the following solution: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/mint-cinnamon-first#TOC-Make-available-updates-more-prominent (item 3.8, right column) Not automatic, but it put...

Re: Please make automatic updates user-friendly

Having to click on an update warning in the system tray. And then having to type your password for installing the updates. I fail to see what could be so bloody awful about that, even in the eyes of the "unwashed masses". :mrgreen: I have no numbers about how common that scenario actually is, but I...

Re: Why still no automatic updates..?

Just posting to say that I would also like to see this feature implemented, esp. for the sake of less tech-savvy family members who will not remember to run updates by themselves. I'm not that afraid of editing system files, but it can quickly get frustrating when different versions of LM require di...

Re: (de)activate screensaver while playing video

rezitengaM, this sounds like exactly the thing I've been looking for as a relative newbie to Linux, but it does not seem to work in Mint 17.1, using XFCE desktop. I have installed "xdotool", but when I right click the script and select "Execute", nothing happens (I understand there should be a new t...

Re: Slow boot in 17.1 (SSD)

Solved! What helped was disconnecting the CD-RW drive - the following link got me on the right track, but I was somewhat afraid to edit GRUB, so thankfully it was an option to just move the drive to another computer.

Slow boot in 17.1 (SSD) [SOLVED]

I've just migrated my gf's machine to Rebecca XFCE (dual booting with Windows XP, please don't ask) and everything is snappy, except for boot time, which reaches two minutes. After selecting Linux Mint in Grub, screen goes black for about 20 seconds, then displays LM's logo the rest of the time. LM ...
