Re: Minecraft not working (installed all java versions)
Hi Kamenko, I just did a quick internet search for installing Minecraft under Linux and found this link about setting it up as a server: https://www.smarthomebeginner.com/install-linux-minecraft-server/ So maybe just check the steps you have done and see if you get any clues from that guide? It's no...

Re: How to check the cause of several PC restarts in Mint?
Is this happening on both machines, the desktop and laptop? And read through the 'How to get Help' post here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=83444 In particular the section about 'details' (5) and including the output from inxi -Fxz In general random restart issues on a PC can be ...

Re: Cooling Systems For DIY Desktop Builds
The good thing here is that most GPU's and CPU's already come with their own fan, so that is one less thing to worry about in general. This is untrue. Re: Cooling Systems For DIY Desktop Builds
Hi, I think the Toms Hardware build guides are a pretty good place to start, to give a general idea on what parts to use in a build, so here is the link to the latest (from October this year): https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-pc-builds,4390.html Now i would also say it is worth looking at s...

Re: Fanless Desktops
I was (am still) a fan of the silent pc website. Shame it is no longer really updated. Anyway i think these things always come down to heat. If you have a system that produces low heat you can (and should) go with a silent build (fanless etc). However if you have a powerful system that generates lot...

Re: System Hardware Monitoring Tool
looks nice, and thanks for the info
I use hardinfo (from the Mint Software Manager) to provide detailed info on my Linux Mint systems, and this looks like a great tool to add to that. Did you use the 'Debian' package download for LM19?

....use the Profile Manager to create a new profile. Re: Avast Antivirus
"Do i need an antivirus in Linux?" Not really, not for most users that do normal stuff on their home PC's. And yes they can indeed be used as vectors for attacks (from super clever hackers). However most users will not be the attention of such targeted attacks, and if for example you find you do a lo...

[SOLVED] Firefox issues - latest update (62.0.3)
I had been able to run the previous Firefox (62.0), but after yesterday's (or the day before?) update it just won't launch at all. It starts the process (I can see it in System Monitor) but before any window opens it shuts itself down and the process closes. Anyone else seeing the same issue? I noti...

Re: software manager won't open
im completely new to linux and i dont know what to do. Don't worry, we all were at some point, and if like me you came from a mostly Microsoft background Linux can seem very difficult at the start. So where xenopeek says to "open the terminal", you can do this easily by going into the 'Menu' button...

Re: private browser?
So what is the difference between the Chromium that comes with Linux Mint and that ungoogled-chromium?
I thought the Chromium project was a separate open source project that had little to do with Google Chrome, other than supplying the base that Chrome is built on?

Re: private browser?
I will definitely check the chromium browser. Do you know any other open-source browsers like chromium? Also, is chromium as resource intensive as chrome, or not? Cause I don't wanna put stress on my poor computer. Palemoon is open source (based on Firefox, but an older version): https://www.palemo...

Re: private browser?
You don't even trust open-source browsers where you can go and verify exactly what they do, so nothing else can be suggested to you. https://www.chromium.org/ Yeah. There IS a difference (an important one) between Open Source (by it's nature a software that anyone can see full source code for) like...

https://iridiumbrowser.de/ I've had that bookmarked for about a year now. Re: HP Pavilion HDX Entertainment Series Notebook Linux Mint issues
Edit: I forgot to give the end result of this machine for this thread! Well it died, cooked to death by too many auto-shutdown due to heat issues, and my not watching the temps 100% of the time! Mint Cinnamon just did not want the GPU fans to work under use while in the main logged in GUI. They only...

Re: Mint is VERY slow on high-end machine
And i'll just add that both the temps you posted in your readouts (57 and 43 degrees C) are not bad. Obviously it is getting hotter than that to force a shutdown, so i would recommend the Psensor utility from your software manager (Menu>Administrator>Software Manager). You'll get asked for your logi...

Re: Mint is VERY slow on high-end machine
Its got so bad that the machine has overheated (I think) and randomly turned off.... Any help would be appreciated. Ok so overheating can be a big problem for a laptop (i know i've had the issue twice under Linux Mint, one so bad it fried it dead). I was running Mint (17.1 Cinnamon) on older hardwa...
