Re: Sound and DVD burn glitches

I'm running an old Acer Travelmate (Centrino CPU!) under XFCE 18.1 and all sound works fine on that old system (as it has done since it went from Vista to Cinnamon 17.1). As for the DVD issue, could it be an actual hardware fault? I had syptoms like you described (but on a windows PC) years ago on a...

Re: HP Pavilion Laptop 14-ce2xxx on lidclose without Suspend high CPU freq/usage

I'm not running Cinnamon currently (switched to XFCE) but i seem to remember that there were some 'screen saver' settings you could look into to make sure it was not switching 'on' during screen closing events etc. It does seem strange that your PC gets more (rather than less) active when you close ...

Re: Ryzen 3600 & MSI B450 Tomahawk - Reboots while gaming

Just throwing it out there, but what are your temps like in general? Also if you can get that data after one of the crash events that might be worth looking at? I use Psensor to monitor my temps while running Mint (you can find it in the Software Manager if it is not installed), but there are probab...

Re: overheating but not on windows

Machines I've dealt with run cooler on Mint than Windows by a landslide. That's great for you :) Sadly some people (like the op and myself) have experience of the opposite. I even had the first laptop i tried Mint (Cinnamon) on cook so bad it hit +100 degrees C a few times and died (you need to scr...

Re: overheating but not on windows

There are a couple of links in my 'signature' below that can help. I also have used and use external fans to blow more air into my laptop to keep temps down, but in general overall i have found hardware running under Mint hotter than under windows (on the same hardware). When i moved from Cinnamon t...

Re: Who is still using Mint 18?

This thread brought up another newbie question from myself: Q: How can i tell what version i am running? And will it tell me the 'bits' (as in 32 or 64 bit) etc. Edit: A: put inxi -Fxz in the terminal for details on what version you are running, and yes you will get the bits etc. I'm sure i'm on 18 ...

Re: Mouse Problem

Hi chazb, Now i have no idea if this is related to your problem but your post reminded me of an issue i can across recently on a Windows PC. The scroll wheel would sometimes adjust PC volume rather than scroll the screen when on a web page. To make things a little more confusing this only would happ...

It is a very bad site, and I am opposed to what they do. Quite. Providing encyclopedic knowledge free of charge equally to a first-world university professor and a third-world secondary schooler... the gall of these people. Indeed and did you know Linux Mint (and support) is provided totally free t...

Re: How many are 100% Linux here?

I currently have two main systems i use daily, one is a 'work+fun' custom desktop build (i build PC's too) that is currently Windows 7 Pro only and rarely goes online. I have a plan for dual-boot with Linux Mint in the near future. The other is my 'internet' laptop (i'm typing this on it) that is Li...

Re: strange keyboard behaviour

Is the issue intermittent or constant? Do you have another keyboard to test with? If intermittent, it could be the keyboard is on it's way out, if constant it is likely related to the update. Testing on another keyboard can also help decided if this is a failing hardware issue of software update iss...

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

*cough!*

Your motherboard has a hardware error in relation to your USB controllers mouse handling (if the information you have given so far is correct).

No amount of software tampering (OS installing) is going to solve it. Just thought i'd save you some time and grey hairs! ;)

My Mom has an hp laptop. I wiped out windows and installed linux mint tina. She said she liked it when i ran the live disc then changed her mind. I have the retail copy of win 7 and would like to reinstall it for her. But for the life of me, I cannot get that dvd to boot! I have tried everything. I...

Re: Mouse has just gone nuts!

Curious. Some have suggested this is a hardware issue. It comes and goes as well. Sometimes my mouse works fine. Sometimes is does 6 clicks per click. Sometimes I have to click it 6 times, as it never clicks on the screen! Sometimes it is 20 clicks in one click. What the heck could cause that? And ...

Re: Screen Brightness Controls

I've not tried 19.2 yet (or any of the 19. releases of Mint), but on all versions i have tried from 17.1 to 18.3 of Mint (Cinnamon and XFCE) i have found some slider to control the screen brightness by using the menu along the lines of: Mint 'Start' button>settings>power/power manager My own laptop ...

You have the experienced guys helping out, so that is good. I just thought i'd pop my head in and say check the links in my sig if you are still having issues after the help cycle is done. I love Mint and i use it (XFCE) everyday as my main internet usage laptop, but i do have history with it and ov...

Re: Can't tame my nervous CPU-fan with fancontrol

I would boot into your Bios/UEFI to monitor what your real temps are for a bit. Just to give you some proper readings to baseline things with. I've had issues with Mint (Cinnamon in particular) and computer temps over the years i've been using it, so first make sure your system isn't going to cook i...

Re: How to run Windows programs on Dual Boot machine [SOLVED]

I know this has been 'Solved'. I just wanted to add one clear bit of information :) The whole point of running a dual-boot (or multi-boot) system is to be able to have access to OS specific tools/software that you would not have under another OS. So run the programs you need in the OS required and s...

I also did not see a link to a guide to help your situation (installation of Min...
