Re: Linux Mint 20.3 Una crashes doing anything
You might be better sticking with Windows? Not the best news, but sometimes flogging a dead horse is well.....not fun. One maybe useful option is to not install Linux Mint but run it 'Live' from the DVD instead. This way you can go through a bunch of the different Mint 'flavours', testing which run ...

Just a quick question diabolicbg,
What type of mouse were you using? And how was it connecting to your PC (as in what type of port)?

Re: Let's have a party and celebrate LinuxMint. Anytime is a good time for a party!
Awkward! Well first i'm not really a 'party person' exactly, but in this case i don't mind being fashionably late and with 179 views and no answers since the OP posted, i decided to 'join the party' (waves hands in the air like i just don't care), as any party by oneself is not right  What do ...

Re: Help its freezing.
Yeah the Celeron N3160 is a very low powered part, and will make some Linux distro's difficult to run. If this a new installed system, you have nothing to lose over trying one of the 'lighter' Linux Mint versions like XFCE, available here: https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=294 Having said that yo...

Re: Temperature monitor
I use Psensor which can be found in the Software Manager (Linux Mint icon>System>Software Manager) and is free to install and run. It gives a re-sizable GUI menu that can display the temps of a number of things (with graphs etc). Sits nice and easy on your desktop while you do other stuff and no nee...

Re: (SOLVED) laptop shuts down
Well that does indeed sound like a setting to do with some kind of 'hibernate when the lid is shut' thing. Just keeping the lid open when it is doing stuff is a nice easy fix.

Re: Screensaver settings
I think i found the screensaver in LM a bit ummm 'not great' and ended up making sure it never switches on at all. This is from about 5 years back when i first started using Linux Mint (on 17.1) and it seemed to freeze my whole system, so maybe don't use one if this is still a concern?

Re: Thinking about adding a GTX 1650 ti in my computer
Ouch, $399 i saw it for after a quick check. And this is a laptop GPU, rather than a full blown desktop GPU, so you will be losing something due to that focus (probably performance for the reduced power usage etc). I got my 1650 Super (for a desktop) a couple years back for around £170 and that work...

Re: [PARTIALLY SOLVED] BIOS and UEFI handling. Booting and Installation of Linux and Windows on the same PC.
Yeah i hear you, using windows 7(the last good (from the users point of view) MS OS) on new hardware is now deliberately difficult (the hardware and software makers ensuring this is the case). The version mentioned in the tutorial i made was just because i had fought for about 2 years to stop MS tri...

Re: BIOS and UEFI handling. Booting and Installation of Linux and Windows on the same PC.
Yeah, just be prepared for a 'battle' ;) New hardware (especially laptops) is difficult (impossible sometimes!) to get running under windows 7 sadly. I was very careful to build with new hardware i know would be ok with Win 7, but you may not have that possibility with your laptop. Good luck and i h...

Re: BIOS and UEFI handling. Booting and Installation of Linux and Windows on the same PC.
I think it's a simple case of UEFI and security settings. Those issues you've mentioned are typically when you have UEFI and the OS is more or less setup for bios or legacy. If you want windows 7 and mint to dual boot, you'll have to set the UEFI settings to allow legacy mode, to disable fast boot ...

Re: Can I, or how can I install the linux firmware non-free from a disk during Mint installation?
I don't have an answer, but to help clarify you did say 'disk drive' in the meaning of a floppy disk? Not a DVD or USB install option correct? If this machine has no DVD or USB you might find it a struggle to install any modern OS onto it.

A couple of places to start to get the basics: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorials.html https://userguiding.com/blog/audacity-tutorial/ I use it (mostly) to patch my songs together into 'album' form, and then to be able to play it in my car via a usb i export it as mp3 (not that great qual...

Just looking for somewhere to post this, as i found it nicely informative, and as i look to upgrade my LM 19.3 install i may give the LDME version of LM a trial run, and this youtube video will help in that (and hopefully others also): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOdvE8tncEw That guy has a very ...

Probably people are not out to exploit your system, but it is good to be aware of the danger in general. I would post the info as Pierre suggested as without that it makes it nearly impossible for the experienced guys to help you out. My only suggestion would be to get a plug-in keyboard (usb connec...

Re: To firewall or not to firewall, that is the question?
The IoT is a bit of a cult it feels like. I think one thing recent tragic actions in Europe should be showing us is that any system that is 'online' is vulnerable and always a security risk. We need to build isolated systems, not connected ones for the future we are likely headed into imho. I will a...

Re: Worried about a couple of things.
One other thing, you start by mentioning problems with the sound cutting in and out, and needing to adjust the volume to make it work sometimes. If it is not too much trouble you could think about an under warranty replacement, as that sounds like it could be a hardware fault? In 'Device Manager' do...
