It's a hit or miss for Macbook cameras to work in Linux. It depends on the model year. I have never had it working on anything older than 2014 models.
Your Air is a 2015 model. I am afraid you won't be able to get it to work.
Give it a try https://smallbusiness.chron.com/use-isi ... 38894.html

Re: intel iris pro 5200 GPU simply not there...
There is nothing you can do. Those years Macbooks are known to default to the dedicated graphics when running any OS other than macOS. It's something to do with the Apple BIOS and EFI firmware that Apple uses. I've run Windows on 2013 and 2014 Macbooks like yours and it always uses the dedicated GPU.

Re: FreeCAD For Machinery and Shop Equipment [SOLVED]
I've been fiddling with FreeCAD but I haven't found any instructions or decent tutorials so it's all hit or miss. So far, I can draw lines by dragging with a mouse from point A to point B but not make ones a particular length. Other than counting grid squares, I don't even know how long they are be...

I was never able to have those gestures. Linux only seems to have the most basic touchpad features.

Re: Dual booting Windows and 18.3 Mint
The option to install alongside Windows should be used when you haven't manually made a partition for Linux prior to running the Linux Live USD or DVD in my opinion.
If you made a partition prior to running the Linux installer then you should choose the 'Something Else' option.

Re: i want to install AutoCAD
AutoCAD is Windows and macOS only. Not available for Linux.
You can run it in a virtual machine with Windows but performance would probably suck. Virtual Machines don't allocate enough video RAM to run CAD applications like AutoCAD smoothly.

Re: [SOLVED ] Best Laptops for Linux Conversion?
Usually the business class models from HP, Dell and lenovo are very Linux friendly because of less restrictions in the BIOS. Dell Latitude and Precision is what I use the most but Lenovo Thinkpads and HP Probooks work well too. Many consumer level laptops (especially cheap underpowered models) won't...

Re: MacBook Pro getting seriously hot
Hi, I am relatively new to Linux, having been using LM 18 for about 6 months now, on a Macbook Pro late 2010. I really love how well itś been running except for one problem. The laptop always runs really hot (you can´t sit it on your lap!), this was never a problem with OSX. The battery also doesn´...

"Snowflakes" I think that people are letting their thin skins get hurt far too often in this modern world we all live in. People in general are offended by everything and anything. It is becoming the norm. When I see someone get " plonked" it makes me smile. Don't take it so per...

Re: NVMe befuddling Linux
Yeah, I've never seen a manufacturer use an ssd larger than 32gb as cache. If it's 128gb or larger ssd, it means the OS is on the ssd and the hdd is used for extra storage. And even though the RAID mode is turned on in the BIOS, I bet the two drives are not set up as RAID. You would have to do it ma...

Your machine is very new, whilst your kernel is relatively old. Upgrade your kernel to the latest one of the 4.11 series . His machine is not very new. The i5-2540M processor is a second gen processor which was released in 2011. It looks like it's a Dell Latitude E6420 which was released in 2011.
