Re: Accessing boot menu on Lenovo X250 ( solved... )

press F1 when Thinkpad logo appears. check that <Boot device list on F12> - is enabled save&exit press F12 when Thinkpad logo appears then Ctrl - S the option to change boot order is then provided. That does sound like a supervisor/admin pwd has not been set. You should be able to just F12 at the l...

Re: Accessing boot menu on Lenovo X250

i've just bought the PC secondd-hand so have emailed the company for the supervisor password. Had a feeling that would be the case, send it back. Odds are that the company won't have the password. All my laptops are second hand and I always check before buying that NO passwords are set in BIOS. I'v...

Re: Accessing boot menu on Lenovo X250

Hi, i've just bought the PC secondd-hand so have emailed the company for the supervisor password. Good news is that, somehow, I managed to boot from the USB... i somehow seemed to get an option screen which allowed me to change the boot order. Mint is now running on the X250. Thanks for your help.

Accessing boot menu on Lenovo X250 ( solved... )

Hi, I am struggling to access the boot menu ( so I can install Mint) I have tried suggestions from various Google searches but to no avail. The closest I have got, by using F12 after a full shutdown, is to get into the BIOS but when I try to change the Boot Order, it says something like "only change...

Re: switched to mint, have several issues, that iam quite unfamiliar with

Hi, on problem #1 , i sometimes experience this ( but have never got around to posting for help). If you search within Software Manager you can often launch the application from there ( even if it doesn't appear on the main menu structure) For problem #2, you can right-click on the Menu button to ge...

Re: 19.2 Mate:- can i export list of installed applications?

Hi Boca, As to syntax: outputfile="reinstall.sh" create a variable with the name of the shell-script we are going to create comm -23 <(apt-mark showmanual | sort -u) <(zcat /var/log/installer/initial-status.gz | sed -n 's/^Package: //p' | sort -u) Command "comm" compares two sorted! text files (lon...

Re: 19.2 Mate:- can i export list of installed applications?

Or see https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=252813&start=40#p1617187 Based on the same idea as gm10's solution. But will also filter out libs, kernels. And make the output of apt-get install a lot better readable. Improved version: outputfile="reinstall.sh" ; comm -23 <(apt-mark showma...

SOLVED :- 19.2 Mate:- can i export list of installed applications?

I keep a list of software I have installed so that, if I need to reinstall, I have a checklist of things to reinstall, configure etc. My list comes from manually accessing Software Manager - Installed Applications. I would like to automate this Is it possible to routinely access/export this list ( e...

Re: 19.2:- latest Firefox update causing Main menu to outgrow screensize

Whatever may have caused the reported problem: Firefox cannot be blamed for it. The Firefox update cannot be blamed for it. My subject title is rather overly blaming .... Although a root cause has not yet been found. The problem did seem to start after the latest Firefox update and can be , tempora...

Re: 19.2:- latest Firefox update causing Main menu to outgrow screensize

I see you're using Mate. Do you or did you have Compiz enabled by any chance? That behavior sounds a lot like Compiz going wonky when you mess with a lot of the different settings. I've also seen Cairo dock do funny things too, do you have that installed? Hi, I recently noticed Compiz in the list o...

The menu has just out-grown the screen again.. except this time I cannot see the bottom of the menu ( with the search bar) Is there anything particular you are doing for the menu to grow? Also a screenshot would help me understand better (do a timed one with a delay so you can open the menu). For t...

19.2:- Main menu outgrowing screensize

Hi, today, I noticed that my 19.2 Main menu was now larger than the screen so that the top items were not visible and could not be selected. I searched for a way of changing the menu size but without success. Looking at the Update history, the only recent updates were for Firefox. Screenshot at 2019...
