Re: Is there a media player that adds all ID3 tags (specifically the 'comment' tag) to downloaded podcast files?

I have tried the latest 'quodlibet' from ppa:lazka/ppa, but it does not add a description into files. Thanks anyway. As well as checking downloaded mp3s in a tag editor (puddletag), I also tried the same mp3s in windows ID3-Editor and MusicBee, to see if any tags were just not showing up in linux, b...

Is there a media player that adds all ID3 tags (specifically the 'comment' tag) to downloaded podcast files?

The 'comment' ID3 tag gave a good overview of what a podcast was about for playing offline files with MusicBee on Windows. I have not found a player that adds this tag on Mint so far. The file name is not as important, although it would seem Mint replaces spaces with '%20' as a result of the file sy...

Re: I can't review software

yes it is my own review :) - my only successful review, from many months back. I do not remember if I originally added it via the software manager or the community website. I edited my old review the other day using the community website just to test. It was successful (editing still works now), but...

I cannot review software via the mint community website

Same problem here. I cannot leave a review for any programs via the software manager or via the mint community site. If I attempt to review via the software manager (I have tested using both mate and cinnamon), I get an 'invalid username' pop up. Nothing happens if I enter the correct details. If I ...

Re: Cowsay within the terminal

thanks for the links 8) I forgot to add that if I click on Terminal > Clear Scrollback and Reset (or Terminal > Reset), commands of any kind still do not work. The problem occurs after I deliberately type 'cowsay' without any message - this seems to stop the terminal from working in general. I know ...

Cowsay within the terminal

In the terminal, if I type 'cowsay hello' I will receive a haunting image of a cow staring back and talking. My question is.. if I type 'cowsay' on it's own, I receive no response. Any commands entered thereafter no longer cause the terminal to do anything, although I can still type into it - if I t...

Re: why do images look better than windows

I think the last post might be close to the truth. I turned off Cleartype in classicshell and on the system in general (computer is partitioned with mint), and now text in windows seems to match mint. The default system font however is washed out, but others look fine. I think some fonts may be made...

why do images look better than windows

As an example, in comparison to windows 7, the same desktop wallpapers or any large images shown in linux mint generally look better. They are much sharper in mint without ruining the image, at the same resolution. Is this the result of the mint generic driver for intel integrated graphics lacking a...

change window font colour

I use dark themes in xfce, but I don't like the window text very much. One website for xfce compatible themes http://www.ravefinity.com/p/our-themes-work.html was recommended from a user on this very forum. Is it possible to change window text and the minimise/maximise/close button colours or font s...

Re: touchpad fast full screen, fixed but need permanent solu

I created a new text file with the commands above, and set its property permission to 'run as a program'. I don't think it worked initially, but I eventually found a suggestion to move to the desktop directory within the terminal, enter 'cd Desktop', and then 'chmod 755 programname' to give it the p...

Re: touchpad fast full screen, fixed but need permanent solu

Sorry for the late response. I have added the above command to autostart if that is what you suggest, but it does not work as a fix after a reboot. The mouse only works with the fix when the program is launched within the same terminal session. I can add a custom shortcut to the desktop. There is a ...

Re: How to remove an item from the start menu on xfce

The menu editor menulibre showed nothing in relation, but the file to delete was located in /home/*username*/.local/share/applications/ as you suggested. Previous to that I was looking in /user/local/share, but there was no applications folder there, and I could not find a related desktop or config ...

How to remove an item from the start menu on xfce

For example, I installed the program 'Fuse' a while back (simulates an 8-bit Sinclair, it worked-no issues), and decided to uninstall a few days later. I used Synaptic Package manager for this, marking for complete removal. The program was seemingly successfully uninstalled, but within Mint's start ...

touchpad fast full screen, fixed but need permanent solution

I have no mouse connected on an old laptop, so I am just using it's built-in touchpad (I have little space at the moment). It works fine, but there is one issue, in that it is too fast regarding it's sensitivity. Lowering mouse settings in Mint makes no difference. I have had the issue is in both ci...

Re: remote assistance attacks on Linux - possibility?

Thanks for the reply. It's more out of interest than worry. I suspect these tools will become more sophisticated. Some people brag on forums that the most malicious RAT tools are completely undetectable on windows already, although I have strong doubts about those kinds of claims. The most malicious...

remote assistance attacks on Linux - possibility?

How vulnerable is Linux Mint is to the likes of a remote assistance tool, aka 'RAT' attack, from criminals - or (seemingly far more likely at the moment) the immature teen prankster with too much time? For example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rKYqGFug4k There are remote tools for Linux, so I do...

Re: Copy and paste, incomplete files remain-how to auto dele

Thanks for the replies. Do you mean cancelled files will always remain, corrupt files will not, and mint uses rsync as it's method of copy by default? I've got rsync's options in the terminal now and note the option 'keep partially transferred files', but I don't know if I could set it up for 'not t...

Copy and paste, incomplete files remain-how to auto delete?

If I copy a file (eg video from cd or dvd to a new folder) and cancel, or if shows as corrupt half way through copying and cannot complete, the incomplete file remains in the new folder. Is there a way to set Mint so that incomplete copies are automatically deleted or at least moved to the recycle b...
