Seems most of the XFCE 4.12 package upgrades just hit Debian SID this morning.
I am sure lot of us were waiting for that good news. Thanks for posting.

Re: reduce size of icons in notification area applet on Mate

Unfortunately, no css in gtk2 theming. For the Mint-X theme you could try going into /usr/share/themes/Mint-X/gtk-2.0/styles/panel.rc and messing around in there. If you're using a different theme just look for something similar. I don't have Mate currently installed to test. To experiment you migh...

Re: LMDE2 - Betsy - with XFCE (My Setup)

Kdebian.org (don't let name fool you) has many of the 'missing pieces' for Xfce4.12 (not the xfce4 'meta package or the goodies meta!) has mail-watcher & places plugins. Still looking around their repo  Good luck with that. And when you are done can you share the steps you followed to get 4.1...

Re: LMDE 2 “Betsy” MATE RC released!

Instructions for checking MD5 are sparse and difficult to find out. Certainly nothing about it on the download pages. It can be verified easily from command line using md5sum command. Certainly not difficult to find. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM Perhaps it was assumed people know a...

Re: LMDE 2 “Betsy” MATE RC released!

32 and 64 bit torrents not working in UK. Downloaded the32bit http version from a mirror and burnt to USB. Quick message flashes upon boot 'isoboot.bin missing' then it fails to boot. Hope you got to check integrity of the downloaded iso by comparing its md5 with download page. Might be that downlo...

Re: LMDE2 - Betsy - with XFCE (My Setup)

Thanks GeneC. Hoping this thread will lead to Xfce 4.12 on Betsy. I am really interested. Folks at Mepis have already backported 4.12 for wheezy.

It appears a subforum has been created to address upgrade issues and other discussions specific to LMDE 2. It will be unlocked soon. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=235

Re: About Betsy

I think this is really cool news. Since I'm not the brightest bulb in the box when it comes to Linux OS. I'm running Debian LMDE Mate how do I upgrade to Betsy when it's available, hopefully without doing a reinstall? Betsy is available as a release candidate and iso. http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2...

What is it that cost opera's popularity and caused power users to move from opera ?

Re: Vivaldi - a new browser in town

Once in a while its fun to test a software and like it. Finally conclude this is not going stay because it is proprietory software. :)
Can never be a mainstream browser but can stay in my tool kit.

Unfortunately yes. Firefox is undoubtedly the most preferred. I also like Midori http://midori-browser.org/. Snappy and works.

Re: move from RC to LTS

Will it be possible to migrate from the LMDE 2 RC release to LTS via an update process when it is released, or will a new installation from the latest ISO be the only alternative? Thanks! Hi Curt. LMDE is based on Debian stable. The RC is the current release of LMDE. All updates will be available t...

Re: Vivaldi - a new browser in town

I was curious about what Vivaldi offers over Opera and why Vivaldi was somewhat similar. Tatsuki said that “Opera used to offer many unique powerful features, but like I say above, Opera too now offers more simple product […] we know that there are still many millions of people out there who are us...

Vivaldi - a new browser in town

There is a new browser called Vivaldi. The name sounded awkward to me but I got used to it. Thought i would share my findings. I like the browser for its availability for Debian, proper dependencies in Betsy, decent load times and stabily for a beta release, friendly community (folks from opera), co...

Re: reduce size of icons in notification area applet on Mate

I assumed it was something to do in css. Because that's how I did in Cinnamon but that's GTK 3+. I don't know about GTK 2.
Won't be able to reduce the panel anymore for reducing the icon. So I think I'll live with it.
Anyway thanks Monsta, Fornhamfred.

Re: reduce size of icons in notification area applet on Mate

Right click the panel and select properties, reducing the height of the panel automatically reduces the size if the icons. Panel height is around 25 so that won't make any difference. I have to reduce the icon alone. Have to change the CSS that handles icon size of notification area. I don't know w...

Install LMDE 2 fresh on the new partition. What else. Unless you want to experiment with upgrade path.
