Re: Keep or ditch Windows?

cool, glad it is going well for you; lm is really very user friendly and proper. Best thing to do is read the forums, search, post, etc. It is usually already there for you. You don't need to 'ditch' windows, but you don't need to use it either. Sometimes I want to play a game so I still have window...

Re: Keep or ditch Windows?

re: bios updates: i read somewhere you can unrar the downloaded archive to get the actual bios file you need, then copy to flash drive or floppy drive and use bios itself to update itself, ie 'update bios from drive' ; i did this for my 2011 gigabyte mobo, not using windows at all . had a hard drive...

[edit: it is /usr/share/backgrounds/ ]

Re: right-click context menu not staying open

after using several distros and having the same problem with each, to a greater or lesser extent, I have decided it has something to do with the sensitivity of the mouse, specifically the setting for mouse drift while clicking. There is a setting that allows for a drift of x number of pixels during ...

Re: grammar correction (also need help with athlon 3500 comp)

i had to ditch the old computer, but lmde2 is working so well, was working so well for it, that i decided to install it on my main instead of regular ubuntu LM. as far as the grammar of your text page, I suppose I should make a more detailed effort: from the LMDE2 page: " LMDE is less mainstrea...

Re: grammar correction (also need help with athlon 3500 comp)

The computer, athlon 3500+, works remarkably well with MATE and LMDE2. In fact, I don't feel like using anything else with it, though I will likely experiment with other DEs.

The system accurately set the screen resolution at monitor maximum. Seems to be all above board. Good job.

grammar correction (also need help with athlon 3500 comp)

I'm trying to decide what to do with my older computer (athlon 3500) and am thinking of lmde2. Reading the description page I noticed a grammar error you might like to correct in some way. The easiest would be to put a period after 'security fixes'. page: https://linuxmint.com/download_lmde.php &quo...

Re: Keep or ditch Windows?

I have been dealing with Windows 10 for a couple of months and it is still problematic (Dec 2015). After every major update, numerous problems appear. It is like owning an old motorcycle. You will be wrenching on it every other day. When you load it after a couple of months, you will have to update...

Re: Keep or ditch Windows?

ya, it is clear that windows, and apple, and any 'corporation' is corrupt these days, basically run by AI's who give their 'ceo's' 'suggestions' on how to run their company, tweaked for maximum shareholder profit. . they are amoral shells with little demon operators. Welcome to 'the tribulation'. . ...

Re: Keep or ditch Windows?

without windows and games we would have little for development motivation; there would be no grand 8 core chips and chips with 6 graphics cores and such . i do wish the linux community would step up to the challenge of the gaming development (more, some are doing quite well with it; but they aren't ...

Re: Keep or ditch Windows?

The new one is i5-5200u, 8Gb RAM, but only integrated graphics (i.e. not dedicated GPU), so not a gaming monster by any stretch. new integrated graphics are very good, and that is a good chip and such. it will do many games well, both windows and linux. . but . the windows virtualization on linux l...

Re: [SOLVED] Magnet Links & Chrome

after uninstalling transmission magnets open automatically in tixati now, for me :) . no, it is any program or desktop interface with popup or dropdown menus, whether left or right click; not a problem using windows (ms)

right-click context menu not staying open

Sometimes, not all the time, when i right click on something the context menu stays open, and other times it does not stay open. I've noticed that if I hold down the right mouse button it will stay open, but only till I release the right mouse button, so I can move the mouse to select an option befo...

i am liking pclinuxos full monty kde so far; good kde implementation, something besides debian/ubuntu; they use 'rpm' packages
there is a 'trinity' desktop version you can download via linuxtracker, it is like windows 7

Re: Open source graphics card recommendatation?

why not just use the proprietary drivers? in linux mint they install with just a click or three . i have an amd/ati radeon 6670 that works fine with linux mint, but works better with amd drivers; i use the regular, not the updates i got it because it paired with my 6550 chip on my cpu die with the A...

Re: ATI Radeon driver problem (I think)

ok, i see that OP has an older chip now; so they will have to install some version of linux with older kernel but hopefully current support; there are various versions of linux that cater to users of older computers; here's a relevant link to get you started: (search distrowatch with 'old computers'...

Re: ATI Radeon driver problem (I think)

incorrect, what you mean is that this version of linux mint does not have the amd drivers in its reporisory
they can be downloaded from somewhere else; i am going to try the amd site right now, myself
