I was afraid of that. Sorry, between mintmenu and compiz.. compiz stays :) Though I wish they didn't take out the burn animation :/

Hi there. I've been using Mint as a primary OS for little better than a year. Love it. Through my entire experience with Mint, mintmenu has been a bit dodgy. Solution:

/etc/resolv.conf
Mine had some junk entries. Two nameserver lines to what looked like a bad IP.
Ignore the warning in the file, remove the two entries. Everything is kosher now.

Ok, I'm zeroing in on the problem. This is a DNS issue. Something Mint is holding on to in terms of DNS is not quite right. Pinging google by name yields a large delay. Pinging by the IP I get from that, it's instant. Which would explain why internal resources ping instantly as well. I've done a bit...

From your description, it sounds like the problem is limited to Firefox. Have you tried Chrome or Seamonkey or Epiphany? At first I though that was the issue too. I did a full reset, but noted other software was lagging as well. Steam when it launches shows zero user avatars until that sleep period...
