Re: Session gets killed after lock screen was active

Small bump with an Update: i have the feeling that this only happens, when i have my laptop in its docking station and it is connected to my monitor. When i have it running "on the go" and the screen locks, this never happened sofar. But when it is docked, the reproducibility of this is almost 100%....

For some time now i have the following problem: When i leave my laptop for some time and i come back, the session is locked. Thats fine as it is supposed to be like that. However when i...

Re: HP CP: Mint 19 does not let me print in Color, Mint 18.3 does!?

Thanks a lot for your extensive reply. However, i run Mint 19 XFCE and gksudo has been exchanged in favor of pkexec. I'm trying to run firefox as root with pkexec for half an hour now, can't seem to find the right information though... I'snt it supposed to be just pkexec firefox ? pkexec firefox Err...

HP CP: Mint 19 does not let me print in Color, Mint 18.3 does!?

Hi, i have a HP CP1215 laser printer connected to my Odroid SBC. The Odroid runs CUPS and shares the printer in the network. From my old retired Linux Mint 18.3 laptop i can print easily in colored mode, the Mint Printer Test Page comes out of the printer in full color. Also the Colored toner does n...

Re: Another Walkman MTP odysee thread?

How about this? https://askubuntu.com/questions/947820/sony-walkman-nw-ws413-and-rythmebox-playlists-and-songorder yeah that helped indeed. ".is_audio_player" at least made rythmbox sync files to my walkman. Now i need to tweak the file so Rythmbox will write .pla Playlist files instead of .pls, wh...

Another Walkman MTP odysee thread?

Hey there, i'm still running that old Sony Walkman i bought begin of 2011. Even in my windows days i never used any sony software to manage the playlist, windows explorer had a very basic GUI for playlist files. Now that i run linux and after years of only using the MTP connection to transfer files ...

Re: Encrypted /home unmounts automatically

I could narrow it down a bit, but just a few minutes ago when i bootet my laptop it happened again. So it seems i have a 100% reproducibility for now... After login Home was decrypted automatically. I did nothing but started thunderbird, Thunar in my home folder and a shell with tail -f /var/log/sys...

Encrypted /home unmounts automatically

Hi there, i hope this has not been asked somewhere else, i could not find any hints on this. After all the trouble i had with long boot times, i have had the following issues three times in the last days: After logged in, my XFCE desktop loaded and i could even start a browser or Thunderbird. The pr...

Re: Boot partition too small?

You could eliminate the swap partition completely. If you have 16 gb of RAM you will probably never need even 1 gb of swap. I have been running Linux for years, right now openSUSE Leap 15, and I have never used a swap partition. I have 16 gb of RAM and swap will never be used. Yeah you're probably ...

Re: Slow boot after fresh install

So... in my previous post i had told that i had un-commented the /swap which resulted in having to type the extra password for the encrypted /swap partition a couple of times (even when sudo apt-get installing something i had to type the /swap password again. weird). It had NO effect after rebooting...

Re: Slow boot after fresh install

I read some more and somehow i noticed that my /swap is not really mounted. It was commented out in /etc/fstab #UUID=6802cbb0-4963-4785-811e-94960cc15d9e none swap sw 0 0 Removed the # and rebooted. Did not help though. Just made me Type my encryption Password... Altough it did not help i'd really l...

Re: Boot partition too small?

So... I read some forums and all said "better not touch the /boot". Even GParted warns me to touch anything like that... However... I just shrinked the Swap (decreased it to 16GB - that should be enough... not sure if i actually need it..). Then i moved the EFI Parition "to the right" by 1GB into th...

Re: Boot partition too small?

you shouldn't need to move either boot or efi partitions,, but you should make that boot partition, into something that's closer to ~500Mb in size .. Okay.... but my /boot and EFI partitions are tightly aligned withhout any empty space in between. So increasing /boot means moving EFI. & yeah - that...

Re: Slow boot after fresh install

1. USB_modeswitch made my boot delay by a bit are you using an usb Mobile Dongle ? can you switch the sim card into a WiFi Dongle, instead ? - - which carrier in which country ? 2. NTP also delayed the boot the Network Time Protocol shouldn't start that quick, unless there is an program or somethin...

Re: Boot partition too small?

well... /boot and /EFI are now configured. What would you recommend? I could boot into a live system and change the partition layout with GParted. I could move /boot to the end of my GPT, i have 32GB Swap there which is probably really overkill. How would i recreate the boot loader without breaking ...

[SOLVED] Boot partition too small?

[ split from [FIX] no swap on fresh LM19 install with home directory encryption ] Seems like i have the same problem.. I can't update the kernel(?) and updating/installing other software will also show errors (due to apt-get trying to re-apply the update i guess?). But somehow my situation is differ...

Re: Linux Mint 19: Full Disk Encryption results in veeeery slow/long boot process

After investigating on this i do not think that it has to do with Full Disk Encryption after all.

For a cleaner discussion i'll abondon this thread and started a new one discussing another potential problem

[Solved?] Slow boot after fresh install

Hey there, after i thought that Full Disk Encryption is a problem and causes long boot delays ( https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=275115&p=1508558#p1508558) I had reinstalled Mint and tried some different things. 1. USB_modeswitch made my boot delay by a bit 2. NTP also delayed the b...

Re: Mint 19 installer: use Full Disk Encryption AND separate root(/) and /home

Hi, Thanks a lot for your reply! I just checked again when i started the live-system in a virtual machine. If i choose the "do something different" option i will need to completely setup the partitioning manually. (I do not feel very comfortable with that, but figured what i need to somehow...) Firs...

Linux Mint 19: Full Disk Encryption results in veeeery slow/long boot process

Hi there, i had written this topic and somehow during posting it got lost... so i hope i can write everything again. I used the mInt 19 Installer last weekend to install mInt 19 via the live USB pen drive on my new HP Elitebook 820G2. I had removed the Windows 10 SSD and put it into my drawer (and p...
