Re: Slow boot after installing Display Link Drivers
Just wanted to say thanks. I had the same issue and this fixed it for me too.

Re: Computers you wish you could have afforded?
When I was a kid in School, I wish I could have afforded a "BBC Micro". I suppose affording any PC would have been helpful, but the BBC Micro was the machine the school was using to teach us how to program in COMAL. There just wasn't enough time in class (or lunchtimes) to complete enough ...

Re: Anyone Investing in Technology Stocks?
It was interesting seeing the term IRA in connection with moving money because of what Russia are doing. IRA to me will always mean Irish Republican Army over and above any other definition. True, I read the comment about IRA money and thought "Oho, that's interesting...!" then read the r...

Re: Looking at buying a new bicycle
I find that punctures often happen in "clusters". I'll go for a long long time with not a single puncture, then I'll have a whole bunch of them over a few weeks, then it'll be ages until the next one... I don't know if that's just random being random, or if *the devils* thorn just hides fr...

Re: Chrome alternatives
Late to the party here. Just thought I would say that I recently had to attend a one-off MS Teams meeting. I installed the Chromium browser and this worked perfectly to attend the meeting "through the browser". Using LM 20.3. I figure it is handy going forward to have an alternative browse...

Re: Why no small smart phones
I generally prefer second hand stuff because it helps prevent waste. I'm telling myself the story that this is okay because Google phones seem to have good support from LineageOS. Hopefully when the time comes I will be able to extend the life of this phone with LineageOS (or similar).

Re: Why no small smart phones
just out of curiosity, was that "deal" you found on swappa.com ?? :| No. Through my network provider. I have always in the past taken "sim only" contracts and bought second hand phones. Taking the "phone bundle" this time it is only $5 a month more than I was paying fo...

Re: Why no small smart phones
I found a super cheap deal on a pixel 4a so I've gone with that this time.
Not as compact as I'd like, but I think I can cope with it (maybe with a sewing hack to lengthen my pockets if needed ).

Re: Why no small smart phones
I don't think the industry is trying, overall, to go for compactness in the sense of screen size. We're going more for full featured replacements for, like I dunno, 80%+ of use cases for what used to be done on computers, and dropping the screen size is antithetical to that goal. Yeah, I totally ge...

Eya - good eyes, you may have bent ears but your eyes are in fine shape.
I should have typed "mm" not "cm" wowsers a 1.3m phone would need a car rather than a pocket. I'll go edit my first post, just to avoid confusion.

Re: Why no small smart phones
Those unihertz models look interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.
Also can see the logic in that if you really want to take good photos get a properly good camera.

Why no small smart phones
Warning - this is mainly a rant. It's time for me to get a new smart phone. Sadly I am really dissapointed with the offering for android phones. The three main features I like in a phone are form factor (compactness), waterproofness and camera. It seems in the last few years, phones just keep gettin...

Re: TV or Monitor
I was using the previous TV for sound output, but am open to getting a stand-alone speaker system. The TV option certainly looks like the cheapest option from my research so far.

TV or Monitor
Just wondering if the clever people of LM Forums have any opinion on my next hardware purchase. : ) I use a LM small form factor PC as my 'media hub' in the living room. I don't have any aerial or satellite dish, everything I watch or listen to in the living room is served through my little LM machi...

Re: Shut down problem
Two points which may help. 1st point: I think you made a slight mistake editing the grub file hanson53. I think the acpi=force needs to be inside quotes, like this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=force" 2nd point: Could this be related to TLP? I did not have a shutdown probl...

GPS watches - is there a 'best' option for linux
I am considering treating myself to a nice gps watch to use while hiking and running. The obvious options would be a Garmin Fenix or Suunto type of device. Does anyone have any experience of using these type of devices with Linux, transferring recorded tracks across etc? I'd much prefer to transfer ...
