Re: LMDE 2 64Bit RC-Desktop Effects Missing?

@ dezo: One thing I did not get to work in "Ubuntu-Compiz" in Rebecca was the Fusion-icon. Trying to start it only led to segmentation fault.... :( The Fusion-icon is very useful for starting/stopping Compiz or make a restore of a failing DE. Can You get the Fusion-icon working in your ins...

Re: LMDE 2 64Bit RC-Desktop Effects Missing?

@ dezo: But this must be the same half-broken Ubuntu-Compiz as in Rebecca?? The Compiz I have installed on my LMDE-1 is a full-featured, good-working Compiz fetched from an old Debian repository. That is an huge difference from the Compiz-version, destroyed by Ubuntu. (Clem meant it was changed due ...

Re: Mint Update only half working

Thank you Lugh! :D Suddenly I got the same problem, but in Linux Mint 16 KDE . When Googling I found this thread about LMDE. It was the same solution for me! I also had to add run as "root" in the advanced menu editor to get it working. From the beginning (after installation of the system)...

Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)

Thanks cmost. :) I started to do this, but it seems to me that deb http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20130815T034749Z/ sid main does not exist any more...and that was the place to find the compiz-files. :( I tried to look around in the Debian archive but I don't manage to find any good alter...

Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)

Very interesting, cmost. That is exactly what I should like to have running on my two 386 computers. :D (At the moment I have changed to LM15/16KDE to get some nice experience) But I think MATE is a bit more uncomplicated and straight forward to manage. Can you please tell us more exact what you hav...

Thank you massexy, So easy and working so well! :D I installed it in a friends LMDE to get a Windows restoring entry away (i didn't delete this partition for eventually coming needs) Now it's no risk somebody hits the start-entry of this dangerous row. (I think it would destroy the whole Linux insta...

Re: How to disable the touchpad?<Solved>

Thanks tdockery97! I worked well on LMDE also.
I could take off the computer-owners taped hard-paper over the touchpad now...
And i also checked that I could put it on again with:

Code: Select all

synclient TouchpadOff=0

Re: Firefox and Thunderbird interfering?

I don't think it is Thundebird that is interfering Firefox any longer.
The problem seems to stop when I turn off Compiz.

Firefox and Thunderbird interfering?

I am running LMDE MATE. In FF, when left-clicking at e.g. "Show more bookmarks" or the "NoScript icon", sometimes the actual sub-menu doesn't open. If I then first shut down my running Thunderbird, the sub-menus in Firefox works again! Why? What do they have in common that is dis...

I have tried Mint 10 and it also works fine. Mint 10 Gnome is my great favourite! :D

I am skipping Mint 14 and now installing my dear old favourite... Mint 10

Thanks for your try to help me, but i don't want to waste more time at this old Amilo at the moment.

Re: Mint 14 Mate: wireless is disabled by hardware switch

I started Mint 9 Gnome for a live session, and wifi worked all right. I also tried to stop wifi with the dedicated wifi button, and it stopped The command "rfkill list" also showed that the wifi was hardware blocked. Then I started the wifi again with button and tried the command "rfk...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I try to introduce new Linux-users by using Linux MInt. The MATE-desktop is perfect for this purpose. I almost have to do no introduction at all to the former Win-users. :) Of course I use it myself also. 1. For the reason it's easy and mature. 2. Because it's easier to help someone when you are usi...

Re: Atheros AR 9485 totally locks the computer

Two things: A I found that all kernels with ath9k seems to fail on the Emachines e443, with Atheros ar9485 wifi chipset. I want to make a trouble report, but don't now know where or to who..... Any idea? B The only solution to get the computer working was to install the good old Mint 10 64-bi...

Re: disable show password.

I have also felt this very annoying.

Try open the connections editor and check the boxes for "Connect automatically" and "Available for all users"
.
(I don't have English as my language, so i am not sure of exact naming of the check-boxes)

Re: Atheros AR 9485 totally locks the computer

Now I have also tested Linux Mint 12 KDE with a updated Linux-kernel to 3.2.5. It is still the same problem, when I disconnect the ethernet cable, the computer locks totally. Until that moment the WLAN looks like it was working perfect. It says it is connected to my router and gives adequate informa...

Atheros AR 9485 totally locks the computer

A friend of me has an E-machines E443, which was loaded with Win from the beginning. Now they have blown Win away and tried with different Linux distros. Mint 12 KDE and Mint 12 main for example. The always upcomming problem is the WLAN, provided by an Atheros AR 9485 chipset. The computer locks tot...

Re: Mate Desktop Environment - GNOME2 fork

@ stovenator:

The upper panel is NOT standard in the Mint desktop.
Your complain is not relevant if our goal is to get back the Mint-desktop looking.
I should say it more belongs to the Ubuntu standard Gnome desktop. :?
