Re: Login method: How to configure login password input to be asked together with user name?

Some years ago in case of a wrong password the user name (with default user name settings) had to get entered or newly selected, before the password could get entered a second time. The appearance of clear text passwords was the usual case at that time. But this is exactly the *current* prob...

Login method: How to configure login password input to be asked together with user name?

Hi, I've installed Mint 20.2 Cinnamon on several PCs in a Computer Pool with network login. Currently users have to input their user name, hit enter and then a password input mask appears: [user] -> <type&enter> -> [password] -> <type&enter> How can I reconfigure it so that the password inpu...

1) btrfs check show that quota is enable on your PC. Maybe you enable, or maybe timeshift has enable it ( the default and "recommended" by timeshift ). It was enabled by default. I simply don't know why timeshift recommend it. This feature is not known to be stable, and also it has negati...

Re: BTRFS disk full and deleting files has no effect (Linux Mint 20.1)

btrfs documentation is not very clear and there is no date/version associated with any documentation . So in theory one of the latest version, btrfs does self balance. I've been using btrfs for over 2 years and never balance any subvolumes. The reason why I suggested to balance, because the disk wa...

Re: BTRFS disk full and deleting files has no effect (Linux Mint 20.1)

Something strange happened: Before proceeding I wanted to use the read-only state of the installed system to at least create a backup using BackInTime (rsync). So I booted into the installed system and started BackInTime. Because this backup took quite long I didn't touch the system for some hours. ...

Arg. During "apt upgrade" the file system switched back to read-only. The notebook is quite old. Could a hardware error be a reason as well?

After each rescue you can try to mount and write to it. 1) btrfs rescue super-recover umount /dev/sda5 btrfs rescue super-recover /dev/sda5 Output reported: All supers are valid, no need to recover 2) btrfs rescue chunk-reco...

Oh, booting into the original installation "apt update" says that the file system is read-only. So I think the problem is still not solved. Should I proceed in a live system or in the installed one?
