Re: Numeric Keypad Alt Codes

Dear Dark Owl, I cannot find a method to duplicate the Windows system to insert special charaters in Linux, I can only offer yo a workaround, for which you did not ask. I recommend you install eurkey.deb via the standard installer. this gives you this keyboard: https://eurkey.steffen.bruentjen.eu/ w...

Re: Want MS US International keyboard back

@GS3 at Tue May 05, 2020 1:54 pm Dear GS3, you are quite right, of course. In order to type fast and easily I have accustomed myself to type on a US keyboard with eurkey keyboard mapping. This keyboard map is far more consistent than US International with dead keys. On the European keyboard dead key...

Re: Timeshift screwed up system: Snapshots in Timeshift are hidden now?

@ JerryF Dear Jerry, I am still inclined to disagree with you. In all sixteen years that I have been using Linux I needed to reinstall the system only once, because I had been messing with a few files in /etc. But because my home directory was on another partition, the new installation in order to g...

Re: Timeshift screwed up system: Snapshots in Timeshift are hidden now?

Dear Kobalt, at the introduction of Timshift I got the same problem. Since then I remove Timeshift at every new installation. I can understand that such a program is useful for Windows. For Linux Mint it is quite superfluous. Just make a backup on an external hard drives regularly of your data. The ...

Li...

Dear Kraatz, you will find your printer driver here: https://www.canon.nl/support/consumer_products/products/printers/laser/i-sensys_lbp6030w.html?type=drivers&language=&os=linux Linux Mint is an excellent distro, but may not be fully up to date with printer drivers. I bought my printers (a laserpri...

Dear jmelton, I vaguely remember that a space before a comma is cutomary in French texts. Maybe LO has a setting for countries/languages that follow this custom. I do not know where to find this kind of setting in LO, but it might be worthwile to search for it. Do you use French, or doyou have a Fre...

Re: Linux refuses to start

On the login screen you can see what characterset you are using. Is it the same as the one you installed with? If not, can you choose the original one?

Good Luck.

Re: LO Writer doesn't return to last position in file

When a document is closed and re-opened later, the cursor will be at the place where it was, when you left, if you fill in your name at Extra -> Options -> Userdata, or just a few characters. Re: Can't print! What have I forgotten?

Sometimes my printer does not print because it got "offline" somehow. Perhaps your printer is offline too, and there is nothing wrong. Just set it online again. Have look at "properties" of your printer and choose "policies" or something like this. (My system language is not English.) Good luck. Eri...

Dear all41,

why is this:
Just leave the 10 percent-ish at the end of the drive unallocated and you should be good to go
?

Timeshift in Mint 19

Yesterday I installed Mint XFCE 19, very nice. Before I could install the updates, I got the recommendation to execute Timeshift. During all the fourteen years that I am using Linux I never needed to restore an older version. I reinstalled new versions, but never needed to repair a system. Linux is ...

Re: [Worked Around] cannot mount USB hard disk in Mint XFCE

It turns out that the problem was not caused by anything in Linux Mint XFCE. After installing Mageia 6 XFCE I got other problems that made me desperate. A sudden brainwave made me boot with the option "diagnostics". The result was a "BIOHD-8 A SMART test failed". I am glad that my problem had nothin...

Re: cannot mount USB hard disk in Mint XFCE

Dear Mute Ant, thank you for your reaction. I do not dare to change members of system groups, because I do not know the consequences for the system. I solved the problem, or better: worked around it, by removing Mint XFCE and replacing it by Mageia 6 XFCE. Everything works now as expected, and I am ...

[Worked Around] cannot mount USB hard disk in Mint XFCE

On a Toshiba Satellite computer I installed Linux Mint XFCE 18.3 64-bit. The computer is old and slow, but still acceptable. There is a aggravating problem however: it is impossible to mount a hard disk via USB. Thunar sees the partitions, but trying to mount them I get the error: GDBus.Error:org.fr...
