Re: Enable palm detection, touchpad ignores xinput configuration.

I ran
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-hwe-16.04
...and rebooted.
xinput list-props 18
now shows libinput as the driver and the "Disable touchpad while typing" option now works.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Re: Enable palm detection, touchpad ignores xinput configuration.

When I upgraded to the LTS stack I elected to upgrade xorg too following these instruction here https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2365449&p=13663529#post13663529 but this doesn't install the libinput version you describe. martin@martin-XPS ~ $ apt list linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hw...

Dell XPS Enable palm detection, touchpad ignores xinput configuration. [Solved]

I have a Mint 18.3 Cinnamon x64 installed on a Dell XPS 15. I've upgraded to the LTS Enablement Stack which was required to fix Nvidia/Intel graphics switching. The 'Disable touchpad while typing' option is enabled in the 'Mouse and touchpad' settings app but it has no effect. Enabling palm detectio...

Re: Clean install, cannot reboot, any hardware command causes lockup.

Fixed it. Adding 'acpi_rev_override=1' to the grub linux command fixed everything. This was a modification I stumbled across so solve a tangentally related issue when switching between Nvidia and Intel gpu using Prime select. It seems this clause is required for my system to pretty much work at all....

[SOLVED] Dell XPS clean install Mint 18.3, cannot reboot, any hardware command causes total system freeze.

Hi. I have a clean install of 18.3 Cinnamon on a Dell XPS 15. Initial boot from USB can only be performed using grub commandline 'nomodeset' but after installation it boots ok using 'quiet splash'. The system won't restart or shutdown though, instead it just hangs with a 'CPU# stuck' error. Attempti...

Re: Bug: soft lockup cpu#4 stuck[SOLVED]

Doesn't nomodeset force the system to use software rendering instead of the GPU? In which case this isn't even a solution at all.

Touchpad configuration issue

Hi I've just installed Mint 18.3 on a Dell XPS15. The touchpad configuration is not useful. The touchpad is currently very slow with masses of acceleration. If I move the my finger slowly on the touchpad it takes half a dozen swipes to get the pointer from one side of the screen to the other. If I s...

Re: Help installing TortoiseHg or Mercurial for Mint

Thanks Read. While searching for a solution to this issue I did come across that thread which can be summarized as a workaround that one or two people managed to get working with a version of Mercurial that is years out of date, but that no one has got working on an up-to-date version of Mercurial f...

Help installing TortoiseHg or Mercurial for Mint

What's the best way to use TortoiseHg or Mercurial on Mint please? From the research I've done it appears that TortoiseHg only works with Nautilus, not with Nemo, and even the version that works with Nautilus is hopelessly out of date in the standard Mint package repository at version 2.10 (current ...

Re: Dual boot Macbook in EFI, where install boot loader?

Thanks Farmer, that seems to have worked out ok. I'm adding an update just in case it helps anyone else, and there is also one final Grub related wrinkle that you or someone else might be able to help me with. In the 'Device for boot loader installation' I selected the existing OSX EFI system partit...

Re: Disable startup sounds

There's a much more obvious way to get to these settings.

Go to Menu -> Preferences -> Sound then select the tab Sound Effects. The startup jingle is controlled by the 'Starting Cinnamon' sound. Uncheck that setting to disable it.

Re: [SOLVED] LM 17.3 new installation unable to connect to wifi

This workaround does work but this is clearly a bug so I just want to check that it has been reported as such and is being looked at. I just installed 17.3 on a MacBook. In the LiveCD session installing the Broadcom driver from the Driver Manager works perfectly, but then booting into the new instal...

Dual boot Macbook in EFI, where install boot loader?

Hi. I'm trying to install Mint 17.3 onto a Macbook Pro while retaining the existing OSX installation. I did this once before and although the installation succeeded my Mint installation ended up being in BIOS emulation mode instead of EFI. This is a big problem because in BIOS emulation mode there i...

Re: Need a text editor configurable to programming languages

Sublime Text is excellent and the Sublime Text 3 beta is in the standard repositories.

Evaluation version is free, full functioned and last forever, though it is expensive to buy the non-evaluation version.

Re: Most stable graphic equalizer for LM17 THREAD CLOSED

Hi. I recently installed Mint 17.1 64bit Cinammon on a MacBook Pro Retina (it runs beautifully btw). I'm not an audio snob at all and if anything have a bit of a tin ear, however I'm using some Yamaha NXB-55 bluetooth speakers which while generally awesome have a bit too much bass for watching StarC...
