Re: CPU Fan Speed, CPU is overheating

reset your bios to default and check the fan speed in bios. could be bad wires unplug the cpu fan then plug it in. No change, still runs at ~800rpm. It might be bad wires on the cpu fan, I guess we'll find out when my new fan arrives in a few days. Heck, if I end up needing a new mobo, might upgrad...

Re: CPU Fan Speed, CPU is overheating

i'm assuming you ran sudo sensors-detect for sensors to start? Yes, I cannot remember the exact wording, but the only thing it detected was it87. When I tried to run any fancontrol programs, it gave me the old Error: Can't read configuration file. did you actually open up the case and dust it out? ...

Re: CPU Fan Speed

And the computer shut itself down due to overheating cpu with the fan running at 800 rpm the whole time. I noticed while monitoring with xsenspors that when the fan was running at 1300+rpm the temp was around 60-65 degrees, but for no apparent reason the speed dropped to 800 and stayed there as the ...

[SOLVED] CPU Fan Speed, CPU is overheating

Hi folks I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 and with the rising summer temps, my CPU is getting warmer too. I notice my fan isn't going at full speed, seems to be hovering around 85 degrees and 800RPM. I have purchased a superior heatsink/fan unit for my cpu, but while I wait for it to arrive, how do I set...

Easiest way to merge /home and /root into one partition

I have an SSD and want to make my linux operation one partition. When I first got linux going I foolishly created seperate partitions. That was almost a year ago, and except for the almost running out of space in / every time I need to do system updates, I love how I've got it set up. Is it possible...

turning .cb* into folders (with a twist)

Goal: Unpack .cb* files into folders with the same name as the archive Some of my digital comics have sub folders inside the archives and as a result my renaming efforts get undone. Is there a code that can turn the .cb* files into folders of images that are named identically to the archive? I assum...

Re: Connecting iPad to my PC to transfer files

well the dropbox solution works great for single issues.. Is there a batch transfer solution, though? it's pretty tedious loading them into dropbox than individually transferring them to ComicRack

Connecting iPad to my PC to transfer files

For the record, I DO NOT like apple products. I chose the iPad for two reasons 1) I can plug my guitar into it for a totally boss portable effect centre/pre-amp/whatever. No more lugging equipment around! 2) the comics. Android comic apps are pretty buggy (imo, I also have an android tablet) and I h...

Re: Filesystem partition suddenly full

After a 7 day run of work I finally am on my weekend. Old system: $ sudo synaptic -> File -> Save Markings (as) -> write list of installed software (the 'Markings'...) to a file. New system: $ sudo synaptic -> File -> Read Markings So this will basically create an image of my current install and whe...

Re: Filesystem partition suddenly full

Well I don't want to wait 3+ weeks so I think I'll be doing what reorx suggested. Is there an easy way to back up the programs I have already installed? Or a way of making notes that are easier than writing down and re installing? I must admit, one thing windows does well is making it easy to find f...

Re: Filesystem partition suddenly full

Lots of great advice, thanks to all.. well it sounds like merging / and /home will solve a lot of problems. How does one pull that off? I can easily back everything up to other drives if necessary. As Derek_s so eloquently said I have a vast amount of available space My problem is that I keep googli...

Re: Filesystem partition suddenly full

It filled up again overnight.
It seems to me Handbrake is making temporary files and not deleting them (or something like that)
can I delete the contents of /tmp with no ill effects? that's where most of my space is consumed
