Re: Serious PC Problems - Culprit LM 19.1 'Tessa' or 10-yr. old PC?!

My take is--it's not your hardware becuase I run 19.1 on lesser specs without problems. Agree. My daily driver has slightly older hardware and 19.1 runs just great: CPU: Topology: Dual Core model: Intel Core2 6600 bits: 64 type: MCP arch: Core Merom rev: 6 L2 cache: 4096 KiB flags: lm nx pae sse ss...

[SOLVED] Keyboard unresponsive after resume from suspend (HP dv7, LM19.1)

This is a problem I experienced after installing LM19.1 on an older HP laptop and found a fix for. There still may be a slight delay after waking from suspend before the keyboard works. But it is now consistent and just a very few seconds. Perhaps this is caused by the keyboard reset. The machine ha...

Re: Dropbox notifications, 19.1 vs 18.3

I am also having this issue. On machines with 19.1 (Cinnamon) I do not see Dropbox notifications when another machine creates or deletes a file. On a machine running 18.3 or Windows 8.1 I do see the notifications. Dropbox version is the same on all machines, 72.4.136. Other notifications seem fine (...

Re: Duplicate IPv6 addresses; /etc/machine-id not unique

After generating the new machine-id file as above, I deleted the dhclient6-* files in /var/lib/NetworkManager and rebooted; now both the default-duid and the IPv6 address are different. It seems like the Mint installation process should have set up unique machine-id files. Reading man machine-id it ...

Re: Duplicate IPv6 addresses; /etc/machine-id not unique

I changed the machine-id file on one machine with # rm /etc/machine-id # systemd-machine-id-setup # reboot This did indeed change the machine-id but the same IPv6 address was assigned. The default-duid value in /var/lib/NetworkManager/dhclient6[...].lease did not change so I must be barking up the w...

[SOLVED] Duplicate IPv6 addresses; /etc/machine-id not unique

I have three machines running LM19.1 Cinnamon 64-bit and they're being assigned duplicate IPv6 addresses. IPv4 addresses are unique and working fine. If I understand correctly, DHCPv6 assigns addresses based on the DHCP Unique Identifier (DUID) as opposed to the MAC address, and the DUID in turn is ...

Re: Wireless drivers on GitHub

Contrary to the advice on Pjotr's website  I installed a new kernel, upgrading from 4.15.0-29 to -30.

I thought just reinstalling the driver (sudo make install) might be enough. It was not, but the following worked:

Code: Select all

make clean
make
sudo make install
So really not too bad :D

Right-click the network icon in the panel, then Edit Connections... Click to select the connection of interest, then the gear icon. Go to the IPv4 Settings tab, Method drop-down, select Manual, then Add to enter the desired information. And/or the IPv6 Settings tab if you're using IPv6. If it were m...

Re: Wireless drivers on GitHub

Larry Finger's driver and ant_sel=2 did the trick (used Pjotr's instructions), things are looking very good. Not a bad little machine (inxi below). On sale at Staples for $349. My wife was looking for something smaller and lighter. Just a Core i3 but it seems plenty fast. Next step will be to ditch ...

Re: Wireless drivers on GitHub

Can't see 5GHz networks from Windows either, so maybe the RTL8723DE is only capable of 2.4GHz?
Edit: I see that according to the Realtek web site it is 2.4GHz only.

Re: Wireless drivers on GitHub

All went well and wifi is working now, but I think I need to check the antenna options. I'm only seeing my SSIDs and usually I see several others here in the neighborhood. I also only see my 2.4GHz SSIDs, no 5GHz. That's not a show stopper for me but 5GHz would be nice. When doing the make, I notice...

Re: Wireless drivers on GitHub

@Pjotr, TYVM! I did notice that extended branch. I think I've found three repos with this driver, lwfinger, smlinux and jeremyb31. I'm not sure what the differences might be, or if there is a preference. Thanks again, I really appreciate all the work you and other folks put into this. I've used your...

Re: Wireless drivers on GitHub

Thank you! That's probably as good an answer as I could have hoped for. I imagine it also means these drivers may make their way into the kernel at some point. Wireless drivers on GitHub

I have a new HP laptop with a Realtek d723 wireless adapter that is not recognized but my question is not how to fix it. I see several other threads for the same (or similar) issue and many of them point to installing drivers from https://github.com/lwfinger (or one or two others, e.g. smlinux). I c...

Re: Cinnamon crashes after installing kernel 4.13.0-26

I removed the 4.13.0-26 kernel, rebooted, went back to 4.10.0-42 and even though I changed back to nvidia-340 in Driver Manager and rebooted again, inxi still reports nouveau, even though Driver Manager still says nvidia-340.

I need a tie breaker ;-/

Re: Cinnamon crashes after installing kernel 4.13.0-26

@JeremyB, thanks for the info. Things seem OK with the 4.13 kernel and the nouveau driver. Is there any reason that's not a good combination? If there will be an update coming to nvidia-340, maybe I'll just go with that and watch for the update. Or I can use the 4.4 kernel if there are issues.

Cinnamon crashes after installing kernel 4.13.0-26

It looks like other folks have similar issues, so I'm posting this as another data point. This old Dell desktop was running great with 4.10.0-42 but then I applied the update to 4.13.0-26 to address the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities. After rebooting, I received a popup window that said, "Cinn...

Re: WPA2 is no longer safe ? [issue is already fixed on all Mint versions]

It is good that issue already fixed on Mint. But it is far from the end of story - who and when will fix our WIFI routers? I would expect that most of the popular router vendors would respond in a fairly timely manner. However, I'm taking the same approach with my routers as I am with my PCs, mainl...

Another satisfied DDG user here. I use it almost exclusively, save the very rare occurrence where I don't seem to get the results I want, then I'll try something else.
