Re: Printer detection fails with wifi, works with Ethernet
Is anyone aware of where I might find a driver for the Mediatek MT7921 that is more recent than the kernel driver? I've searched around to no avail. If I am reading this correctly, the current driver is about two years old. $ dmesg | egrep -i mt7921 [ 12.581309] mt7921e 0000:03:00.0: enabling device...

Printer detection fails with wifi, works with Ethernet
Automatic printer detection fails on this machine when using the 6.5 kernel and wifi, but works when connected via Ethernet. With the 5.15 kernel, the printer is found with both wifi and Ethernet. The "driverless", "ippfind", and "avahi-browse --all" commands behave sim...

Issue with a digital signage application
I am using Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.2 for a digital signage application. It runs on a mini PC connected to a TV. A bash script runs the feh program to display several images, then mpv to display several videos, in an infinite loop. The TV is not always on. Sometimes when the TV is turned on, there is ...

[Workaround] Screen does not turn off, system fails to suspend
Screen saver starts on schedule. Screen turns off on schedule but then turns back on within 10-20 seconds. System never suspends, although it can be suspended manually. (Screen saver is set for 5 min, screen turn-off and suspend set for 10 and 15 minutes in Power Management.) This is a recent fresh ...

Re: Problem installing 21.1
Sounds like what I just went through, viewtopic.php?f=46&t=388985
My issue was described in the release notes, "Solving freezes during the boot sequence."
I did have to add the "nomodeset" option as described in the video.

Re: [Solved] Cannot seem to make workable Live USB for LM21.1
Well this was as easy as starting Mint in compatibility mode from the USB stick. I'd never had to use that before. Live and learn! In the writable partition on the USB stick, I found in syslog that lightdm appears to have been in a crash loop; this pointed me to compatibility mode. This issue is doc...

Re: [Solved] Cannot seem to make workable Live USB for LM21.1
Just when I was thinking that I'd forgotten how to create a Live USB stick, or that I was doing something wrong, I tried the LM21 Cinnamon iso file on a couple USB sticks and they work just fine. It seems there is some difference between the LM21 iso files and those for LM21.1. Any ideas? It would s...

[Solved] Cannot seem to make workable Live USB for LM21.1
When I try to boot from the USB stick, I get the grub menu. After picking Start Linux Mint 21.1, I see the LM logo in the center of the screen. This goes away after several seconds and I'm left with a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner. The LED on the USB stick continues to...

Re: Virtual Machine vs factory restored for turbotax
This is the second year I've used TT and a Win10 VM under VirtualBox and am very happy with the way it works. The TT data files and PDFs of the returns are stored in a shared folder so they are easily available to the Linux Mint host machine. Once the returns are complete, the VM could be deleted bu...

Re: Qt applications slow to start
Thanks. I noticed in that thread that Zoom was installed. I had it also. I found that after doing $ sudo apt remove zoom $ sudo apt autoremove then the various applications that were slow now load quickly again. I need to read that other thread some more to see if I can get everything to play nice t...

Qt applications slow to start
Just in the last day, I've noticed several Qt applications are very slow to start, including qpdfview, ReText, the VirtualBox Manager GUI (the VMs run fine though), and the Qt5 Configuration Tool. These applications used to start nearly instantaneously, now they take 25-30 seconds. I've checked sysl...

Re: Samba issue
Thanks again folks. Not sure that I completely understand gvfs yet but I'm getting there. Will study things and play around some more. @altair4, that is the same error I get, Unable to mount location ... invalid argument. This was mostly a matter of convenience, but the workaround of explicitly acce...

Re: Samba issue
Thanks again everyone. The LM machines are fresh installs (I use a separate /home partition and never do upgrades.) Also, neither has a ~/.smb directory. I tried again and now all machines are acting consistently; they all fail when trying to connect with Nemo. Since my original post, there have bee...

Re: Samba issue
Thanks for your input, sorry I'm late getting back. My notification settings were not what I thought. Both PCs are indeed LM 20.1, see the end of the terminal log below. Interestingly, testparm gives the same results on both PCs as well as on the Pi. jack@rz7:~$ testparm -sv | grep 'protocol' Load s...

[Solved] Samba issue
I have a Raspberry Pi samba server and several LM20.1 (Cinnamon) client machines. All the LM machines except one can connect to the server using Nemo (by clicking on Network). On the one machine, Nemo says, "Unable to mount location / Failed to retrieve share list from server: Invalid argument&...

Re: Firmware upgrade available message
I doubt a bit that updating linux-firmware to version 1.187.19 wrote firmware RQR12.11_B0032 for Logitech Unifying Receiver to the (hardware) device. What do you get now if you run the command fwupdmgr get-upgrades ? Regards, Jože You are correct. I just tried ssh and did not see the message so ass...

Re: Firmware upgrade available message
I just applied a few updates via Update Manager, one of them was linux-firmware 1.187.19, and after a reboot, I no longer receive the "Firmware upgrade available" message. So perhaps I could have installed the new firmware via fwupdmgr but after a few days it made it into the regular updat...
