Why LM doesn't default AppArmor?

Hi all, I was surprised recently to discover Ubuntu's own native AppArmor is not implemented in Linux Mint by default which as we know is a branch of Ubuntu (experimental) branch of Debian (stable)? I have a pretty good understanding of SELinux (NSA) and AppArmor (SUSE - Canonical) and how well main...

Re: Dual boot issues, first time ever! - Rebroken..

So I may have counted my chickens a little too soon. Actually I was messing with important files in Windows from Linux and messed up the install so have been forced to restore the Windows drive from a backup image. Now, yet again, I am caught in the cycle as above. I get no boot options currently, o...

Re: Dual boot issues, first time ever!

Thanks for your replies all, while offline I seemed to fix the install. For clarity the 2GB file was indeed a live disc (USB key) and the partition I'd wiped is where I'd installed LM. I actually managed to fix the boot issue by installing and running Grub editor 2 and could see Windows on /dev/sda ...

Dual boot issues, first time ever!

Guys I've been using Mint for a long time and not a newbie with Linux but I can't seem to fix a dual boot issue. I recently reinstalled Windows 7 x64 Pro on /dev/sda and couldn't fix Linux install on /dev/sde partition 5 so opted to reinstall alongside windows cancelling the UEFI option in the insta...

Re: Occasional, total system freeze?

I saw this old post about a similar issue, think copying big files is also a problem. Am I hogging memory or writing to cache? Should I expand my swap?

If anyone has a link on testing and adjusting memory that would be really handy.

Re: Occasional, total system freeze?

Update - realised I had Sophos AV running and top would reveal occasional 100% CPU usage.. I typed

Code: Select all

sudo /opt/sophos-av/bin/savdctl disable
This helped immediately. I will now either remove or figure out how to configure amount of resources used by sophos.

Occasional, total system freeze?

Running Cinnamon and occasionally for no real reason, the entire system freezes and all I can do is reset the computer. I can't open a terminal ctrl+alt+del or anything, and no error message so I can't find out what happened. Can anyone suggest what this might be or where I might find an error log? ...

Stacked desktop icons

Everytime I log in and drives auto-mount, the icons stack up on top of each other on the desktop. I have to manually place them each time. Is there a way to fix this? Drobo USB drive name keeps changing

Hi all, I have a data robot or Drobo as they are known, a RAID array storage drive that works as a USB drive. Usually this mounts fine but occasionally when my system crashes and I have to reset, and the drive mounts with a new name. Ordinarily this is not a problem but I have all my media on this a...

Jarring - image tear

Hi all, I'm using Mint (Cinnamon) on a pretty high end PC with Nvidia drivers. Recently I've noticed when copying large files that I get mouse jumping and image jarring and not sure why? Best example is trying to watch YouTube while copying, the playback pauses and mutes so I can only imagine 100% r...

Re: <Solved> Desktop Icons - Sizing and moving Icons

This doesn't work for me, all I see right-clicking are three options, Desktop Settings, Change Desktop Background and Add Desklets. Under desktop settings I only have the ability to show or hide icons and select which monitor to display them on. There's nothing about resizing or moving them. All ico...

Re: boot-repair

Hi hagensieker, This program "boot-repair" is also called "boot-repair-disk" and is a great utility program to have on a bootable CD or USB flash drive. For boot-up problems: You could try the great " boot-repair-cd " program, and or the great " super grub2 rescue disk ". You have to download the "...

Super thick title bar?

Using latest distro updated and upgraded, tweaked a few font sizes now my cinnamon title bar is really thick. With Chromium open there's a good 10mm of wasted screen space and I can't figure out how to reset it?

Cinnamon alongside Windows 7 Laptop

Hi, I just installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on my HP DM4 laptop. Mint has always worked well on there though I have mostly used live discs. i installed and rebooted and it only boots Windows. I cannot find a way to redo the bootloader without starting again with the disc, any ideas?

I've never had boot troubles with Linux Mint before, now trying the latest Mint 12 (Lisa) 64bit live DVD on my HP DM4 I get no graphics after the boot screen. Any suggestions?
