Re: Questionable Download?

If you click the tiny arrow in front of NOT AUTHENTICATED , you will see more detail ? . . :? HEY richyrich! Long time, no see. I thought I recognized the name. Who can forget that avatar? Arrow down? ...done ... I see one file with the word Deamon attached to it. Do you think it's best to ...

Questionable Download?

I'm running LM 17.1 Rebecca. With all the upgrade notices I've received, this is a first. I took a screenshot of the original and put a 2nd one on top by layer. I've seen "Cups" and "Libs" before on the Update Manager. This second window has never come up. You can see it layered ...

Re: Firefox was good BUT, ...lately

I never give an advise, which leads to data loss. That is a hard principle by me.. Hi, Cosmo. I saw the end of Pjotr's reply. If my reply came across that way, I am sorry. I promise you I was not implying that in any way. I appreciate all the help and advice I have received in this Forum. I just mi...

Re: Firefox was good BUT, ...lately

Probably an issue with your FF-profile. To get back to your old profile: Close FF. Delete the new folder .mozilla Rename the folder .mozila.bck back to .mozilla Start FF. Done. Grr... I misread your instructions. :? After renaming the file, ...the browser looked brand new. No toolbars or bookmarks....

My apologies, fungus. It's been awhile since visiting the forums. I'm using Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca. For all I know, that version may be out of date by now.

Re: Firefox was good BUT, ...lately

I advise to do as Cosmo says. For this kind of problems, the usual suspects are add-ons/extensions that you've added yourself (or a Firefox profile that you've inadvertently spoilt otherwise). Pjotr! Long time, no see. Hope you are doing well, my friend. I'll try the advise Cosmo and yourself have ...

Firefox was good BUT, ...lately

Firefox was my favorite browser. I can't say the same for the last several months. It runs at a snail's pace now. No matter which website I go to, it seems to take forever only to flash a "Warning" box at the end. I've added a graphic of this gray box. Telling me it's having trouble with t...

Re: Hard Drive Boots on it's OWN

Lookie there, I got back on. After I power up now I get this crackly sound that has never been there. Sounds like static.

These "Dead Kills" won't last much longer. I'm trying to find the CD I burned the Mint program on. Wish me luck.

Re: Hard Drive Boots on it's OWN

I'm not sure where the "Grub Menu" is but I will try to find it.

Do you think it might be the browser? I use FireFox and switched to Chrome(not my favorite) and it has not frozen yet.

Thanks for your insight, austin. Although it appears to be doing it more often.

Until I can get employed again I have no money for a new HD. :( ...oh well

Re: Hard Drive Boots on it's OWN

Thanks, FreedomTruth. That's a handy little tool. I ran a short and extended test. A funny note on the HD... a smaller box on top read 80GB which is the size that I remember but the Properties for the HD shows a size of 40GB.

Thanks for all the tips from the members. I took notes and wrote them down but it's still doing the same thing. ...smh It never froze up last night after posting a few messages here. Re: Hard Drive Boots on it's OWN

I'll have to research that. I'm not sure how to check the "Integrity" of the HD's disk.

The HD is 40GB with only 28.9 used. The RAM is 2 GB (while previewing my reply I see the post by jimallyn. I'll give sudo a shot now)

Thanks for both replies. :D

Hard Drive Boots on it's OWN

I'm not a newbie. I've been on Rebecca 17.1 for over 3 years now?? I've never had this happen before. I'll be doing something online and hear my HD make a noise. Sounds just like it does when I'm booting up the tower on my desktop PC. About 30 seconds after that, ...everything on the screen freezes....

Re: HP Officejet Pro 6830 (SOLVED)

I wanted to post the following link suggested by my good friend here, Pjotr. Just in case it might be beneficial to anyone else .
This should do the trick:
