Re: where is the screen saver in mint 17 cinnamon

Thanks, I can call it manually but it still doesn't come on by itself even after changing the display settings and I can't find any settings for the screen saver anywhere. I'm using 17.1 rebecca.

where is the screen saver in mint 17 cinnamon

According to software manager I have cinnamon screen saver installed but I can't find it in any of the menus and it doesn't activate ever. If I wait long enough the screen just turns off.

Re: Lexmark 2400 driver

Thanks I hadn't seen that page. I Followed the instructions but it gets about half way through and then I get a little window that says "install failed". When I plug the printer back in it does get automatically detected but when you open the printer properties the print test page is greye...

Re: Lexmark 2400 driver

Thanks for the help. Installing build-essential fixed the build problem but not the printing problem. If i select the generic driver the error I get when I print is 'client-error-document-format-not-supported'. When I select the Lexmark 2050 driver everything appears to install ok but nothing works....

Lexmark 2400 driver

I'm trying to set up my printer a Lexmark x2470 in Mint 17.1 Cinammon. The printer is detected as a 2400 series which is correct but when I try to install the printer after choosing Lexmark there is no 2400 option. I've tried a few different options including the Generic(Recommended) settings none o...

Re: Running Java program from file manager

That's exactly how I did it using Cinnamon, even before I put up my original post. It does then show java as the default. It even begins to run but crashes as soon as it needs to access a data file. The only way I can make it run properly is entering java -jar <program name> at the command line or u...

Re: Running Java program from file manager

Did a full search of the file system and couldn't find anything resembling that file. The java path is set correctly and works. I've decided to get around the issue by just using a shell script, not exactly what I wanted or explain the issue but it does allow me to automatically back up the data aft...

Re: Why does my Java program crash when compiled

Managed to get it to run by using java -jar <program name> . Still won't run by double clicking the icon though. But at least I can use it now. One step closer to ditching windows. :)

Re: Running Java program from file manager

Tried that. Doesn't work. Accepts java as the default but not the -jar parameter.

Running Java program from file manager

I'm trying to run a Java program I wrote in netbeans for windows. After a week of searching and trial and error I discovered how to run it from the command line. I feel like an idiot as the command was written at the bottom of the output screen in netbeans. I did learn how to change the java path th...

Re: How to automount ntfs drives in Linux Mint 17 KDE?

Excellent, something else for my useful commands/information file. Worked a treat. The only thing is I had a link on the desktop to a spreadsheet on the drive I wanted to mount on startup. I had to delete this link and create it again, I assume because the mount point had changed. No big deal though.

Re: Why does my Java program crash when compiled

Probably some more info might be helpful. The program starts properly displays input boxes and accepts input but crashes as soon as it needs to access a file. But it only does this after I build the jar file and try to run it then. Within netbeans it runs perfectly with no errors. At the risk of sou...

[SOLVED] Why does my Java program crash when compiled

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right forum. I've got a Java program that I'm trying to port from windows to mint cinnamon. It works perfectly when run in netbeans (Linux version 8.0.2) but when I try to run the compiled jar it crashes. Any ideas?

Re: Allow execution of a program

Thank you so much. I tried both ways and they both worked. Just need to change a couple of things in my program now, mainly paths I think. This will get me a lot closer to ditching windows completely. Thank you again.

Allow execution of a program [SOLVED]

I am brand new to Linux and so far am loving it. I hope this question isn't to stupid. I am trying to port a Java program from windows. I have discovered I must allow execution of the program and have found the check box in the properties dialog box. However I am unable to check the box, I assume th...
