Thank You
I will try that

He is still running the same machine but with an increase in RAM, mine has since been completely rebuilt to to include a Ryzen 3700 and 32 of RAM :)

Re: Display Issues & Ancor Communications

But first, I thought you stayed on the earlier kernel so you could update to the latest 20.45 AMD drivers? Your info appears to be showing you have the 20.20 drivers installed. Graphics: Device-1: AMD Ellesmere [Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590] vendor: XFX Pine driver: amdgpu v: 5.6.0.20.20...

Re: Display Issues & Ancor Communications

I will try it, to be honest I don't know what MESA is. This has been a learning process all through. Again so NOT a code bunny, or well even much of an anything bunny if it isn't hardware and program usage. I can use programs well, I don't necessarily know what makes them tick. The first thread howe...

Re: Display Issues & Ancor Communications

I have always had problems with the graphics. A bulk of them I have pinned onto the GPU as a system bottleneck. Some of that was thermal throttling which I fixed by loaded a Kraken G12 sled with an AIO water cooler. My system now has AIO water coolers on both the GPU and CPU. Some GPU problems were ...

Display Issues & Ancor Communications

I am having problems with my display resolution, productivity is passable but for games it is poor. I began to twitch with my settings first and found out part of the error. My monitor is an Asus VS228H-P but Mint reads Ancor Communications 22" and does not let me twitch with the settings. I di...

Re: Workaround for AMD GPU issue on Linux Mint 20

The 5.4.0-56 kernel has been removed from Update Manager. On my PC with a Radeon RX 560, Radeon Software for Linux 20.45 fails to install with the 5.4-0-58 and 5.8-0.33 kernels. It worked for me following the instructions in the walkthrough above. First time it ever worked and installed correctly. ...

Re: Workaround for AMD GPU issue on Linux Mint 20

Thanks for posting your experience. AMD has updated the release notes for the 20.45 to indicate the problem with the 5.4.0-56 and to use 5.4.0-54, but the note didn't say anything about 5.4.0-58. The thread you posted indicates -58 is also a problem. Specifically I am having a neverending battle wi...

Workaround for AMD GPU issue on Linux Mint 20

I have been having a number of issues with my graphics since I built this system in February of this year. I have tried a number of solutions that worked for a little while or for a few key programs but nothing sweeping that actually repaired the problem. But I REALLY love Minecraft and I am a stubb...

Re: Cricut Maker Vs Linux <solved>

According to various sources Fortnite runs in Linux using the Lutris launcher https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/92bhan/fortnite_now_playable_on_linux_with_lutris/ But it should work in a VM as well (you may need to configure GPU passthrough though, which can be a PITA depending on your system...

Your school should be able to provide you a Windows student license for very little money (if not for free).
Good Point, once I get my thermal issues under wraps I will check in about running a VM with the license.

Is this accessed via a web browser? Maybe a Firefox update has caused a problem, in which case you could perhaps try using a different browser instead, eg Chromium. I called MCGraw-Hill tech support. The tech there said officially they do not support Linux either, but chose to apporach it from a Fi...

Working with one of the WINE gurus to try and get the app working correctly. For now, I have a workaround where I design it on my computer, load to google drive, and then run the app from the tablet. It's not great but it works.

This would make for a great "War of the Worlds" in a "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" flavor, where Earth has been invaded by superior beings in unstoppable machines. Until one day, when some old codger gets up one morning, puts the kettle on, switches on the news to see what ...

EUREKA!!! I scaled back to 19.3 and it worked, untill I added the amdgpu drivers. I upgraded to 20 and it worked, untill I added the amdgpu drivers. I am goingto guess that something in the amdgpu drivers isn't firing correctly. It is also crapping out my boot sequence. I get all kinds of lags and f...
