Re: Swap space gone with the wind on 19.2

Having an old fashioned swap partition does a lot of writing/reading on to the storage device. For an SSD it drastically reduces the life expectancy.

To the OP, I hope that you don't have an SSD. If you have an SSD then just add more RAM.

Re: Browser Pop Up Windows don't Pop Up after upgrading to Tina

I have been using Firefox on Windows and Linux for at least 6 years now and I have never seen this pop-up phenomenon that you describe. If you figure it out post a picture because I am curious.

Re: Bad shutdown, potential File System damage?

To be honest, if the system rebooted after a forced shutdown, I wouldn't be overly concerned and would carry on my day. The systems automatic fsck kicks in a boot-time if there has been a dirty shutdown. But if you want to investigate further if there were any files in a damaged state in any partic...

Re: Unable to create Linux partition for dual boot drive

I have one question to the OP. Why do you want to create a swap partition? If you are installing a modern Linux Mint then you will not need a swap partition because Linux Mint does not use a swap partition, it uses a swap file.

Re: Strange to me incident regarding admin password

The install media for Linux Mint will not fit on a CD. Maybe you used a DVD. You might want to check because if you tried to use a CD then you will have issues from the start.

How come you can't update to a newer, more secure version of Linux Mint?

Yes it's Intel R Core TM 2 Duo CPU T5450 @ 1.66 GHz. I'm sure I saw 32 bit somewhere.

Anyway, I have gone into the BIOS and changed the boot sequence to boot off USB, but it just goes black with flashing cursor

Use the 64 bit ISO install because this is a 64 bit computer.

Re: Linux Mint 19.2 Install CD Needed!

Will Linux Mint 19.2 (Cinnamon) run on our laptop (see attached spec sheet for our laptop)? I'd like to think LM 19.2 Cinnamon would run, but you'd probably get better performance from LM 19.2 Xfce. Unless I missed it on the spec sheet, I didn't see any CD/DVD drive specs. Point being, due to size ...

(Solved) Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2, Update Manager Not In Tray

Hello All, Just like the title says. I updated my old laptop from Mint 19.1 to Mint 19.2, everything was fast and easy except that now my Update Manager icon is not displaying in the system tray. I can access the update manager through the start menu so it is not a big issue. Is this a bug or is the...

I updated my 12 year old laptop to Tina using the old built in wi-fi system. The whole update took less than 10 minutes and so far everything seems to be working good.
