Re: Update wrecks Nvidia and more

There no support in kernel 5.3 for nvidia-390. To get the latest kernel, it's necessary to upgrade the nvidia drivers first. More info at viewtopic.php?f=59&t=309757

Re: <SOLVED> Thunderbird - Risk of copying and using profile while continuing to use the old one

You said "info on what's new." I infer from that, that it must be looking at time stamps to determine the sequence of the changes. Is that correct? As I recall it uses UIDs and single line header comparisons. What it doesn't exchange is information about the client, its version, and certainly not t...

Re: Thunderbird - Risk of copying and using profile while continuing to use the old one

From the IMAP point of view, it will be handled just fine. It's really the same as any 2 clients accessing the same remote server, e.g. your PC and a phone. Given your description, I assume that your new Mint installation has it's own /home and it has (or will have) a copy of your user's home direct...

Re: Kernel Update 5.0.0.37.95 to 5.3.0.26.95 Kills nVidia Video Drivers

Did you originally install nvidia-driver-390 in Driver Manager and then install nvidia-headless-390 in Synaptic Package Manager? It would have been a long time ago that I installed 390, so at this stage I cannot say with any certainty that I did or didn't do as you say. Maybe I did, but I can't thi...

Re: Kernel Update 5.0.0.37.95 to 5.3.0.26.95 Kills nVidia Video Drivers

I found this thread after updating the kernel to 5.3.0 and finding a nasty 800x600 welcome screen. The nvidia drivers wouldn't install because the same version that it wanted was going to be installed. Really, that whole error message isn't helpful at all. So I booted back to kernel 5.0.0, which gav...

Re: Another Mint 19.1 slow to boot

Editing /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume did it for me. It had a reference to a UUID that didn't exist, possibly because the swap partition on my system existed from when I insalled 18, then I did the fresh install to LM 19.1. I edited the file and changed the UUID to that of my swap partition and...

How to start blueberry with bluetooth disabled

I'm using 18.2 with Cinnamon desktop. As part of the start-up, the blueberry tray indicator is started. However, I would like _bluetooth_ to be disabled by default. I still want the tray indicator, but I just want to be able to enable bluetooth when I need it, and disable it when I don't. At the mom...

Default action when plugging in USB stick

At some point I must have put in a USB stick, then selected "do nothing" and "remember this decision" - or whatever the wording is. The main thing is, I meant to choose "open folder". I have looked seemingly everywhere in the settings etc, and cannot find out where to reset this option. My online se...

Re: 17.2 resets brightness everytime computer boot

I had this problem too after upgrading to 17.2, then adding the 3.16.0-38 kernel.

My solution was to install the 3.16.0-39 kernel, update grub and reboot.

Re: Cinnamon window placement options

Just spent sometime looking into how to change this behaviour having recently installed Mint 17.1 Cinnamon, and came across this topic. With dual monitors, it can be quite a chore to head all the way back to the top-left. An option to centre on the current workspace, or to open near the current mous...
