Re: MATE 1.18 updates

Since upgrading to 1.18, programs do not automatically launch when I insert media.

I now have to right click a DVD icon and select VLC, and right click a USB drive. Before, these things happened automatically. But as far as I can see, the settings in the Control Centre have not changed?

Re: R project update

In case anyone is interested, the reason for the delay in R 3.4.0 for Debian is: "I have prepared the backport but it is not released because it will break certain packages and it is not clear yet if this will be handled by the upstream packaging, see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.c...

Re: R project update

159 does seem a lot of packages.

What did you do:
add your local CRAN repo or
enable Debian backports?

Can you post a list of the packages that need to be upgraded and we can have a look if there are any critical ones in the list?

Re: R project update

R 3.4.0 was released on 21 April, for Windoze/Mac/Ubuntu/Suse etc. it normally only takes a few days to make it onto CRAN, but it seems to be stuck at 3.3.3 for Debian. R 3.3.3 is available from CRAN: Debian jessie (stable) For a backport of R 3.3.3 to jessie, simply add something like deb http://<f...

Re: 'Icedove' upgrade taken, Now Thunderbird won't start?? <SOLVED>

Sorry - I should have indicated that you should downgrade whichever Thunderbird language packs or addons that were upgraded to 1:45.8.0.3~deb8u1, thunderbird-l10n-en-gb is just the one that I have...

Re: 'Icedove' upgrade taken, Now Thunderbird won't start?? <SOLVED>

It looks to me like this update was offered in error - it is not the Linux Mint version (which will probably come later). If you are having problems starting Thunderbird/Icedove you can downgrade by specifying the version: sudo apt-get install thunderbird=45.8.0~linuxmint1+betsy thunderbird-l10n-en-...

No, no crashes or freezes.
I know you're going to say 'ignore it then', but error messages worry me!

Re: MintMenuAppletFactory errors

Thanks for the reply Monsta, but I think I would prefer not to get them at all, rather than remove the MintMenuAppletFactory prefix! I have just reinstalled LMDE2, and I am still getting these errors. Hundreds of them in the case of Firefox. Have you any idea what the underlying cause is? Is a Mint ...

MintMenuAppletFactory errors

I am getting a lot of error messages in the logs from MintMenuAppletFactory. These Firefox messages (same problem if firefox is running in firejail and if it is not), were happening yesterday before the new version of Firefox was installed, and still happen after installing it (and restarting Firefo...

That's a definite improvement. It does launch (and it's using the correct profile). It does still give an error though... andy@lmde-2 ~ $ firejail --profile=/etc/firejail/vivaldi.profile vivaldi-stable Reading profile /etc/firejail/vivaldi.profile Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-common.inc Rea...

Sandboxing Vivaldi

I'm trying to get Vivaldi browser to run in firejail. My custom launcher fails, so I ran it in a terminal and I got: andy@lmde-2 ~ $ firejail /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable %U Reading profile /etc/firejail/default.profile Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-common.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/disabl...

Re: I have a few questions about my install.. (I'm new)

I wouldn't worry about the 'Virtualbox additions disabled, not in a virtualbox machine?' message. There was a long discussion about whether it was an error message or just info. They're harmless, but if you've removed them it's OK. Regarding the Administration / Tools fail to start - this looks like...

Default mint background lost

Got an update for mint-artwork-debian and mint-backgrounds-debian earlier, and the default mint background 'gelsan_debian.png' (from /usr/share/backgrounds/linuxmint-debian) has been removed?

That's this one:

Re: A Problem with Green Images or Green Tint

Unlikely to be a level 1, 2 or 3 update that would cause problems. Can you open a terminal, type: inxi -Fxz Hit Enter, copy the results and post it here. This will give us information about your system. Also, which theme are you using? You could try changing it (I don't see why the wallpaper is not ...

Re: A Problem with Green Images or Green Tint

Sounds like a monitor issue rather than OS, or monitor connection (would also explain the sound).

Check its plugged in properly, or try another monitor (or external monitor in case of laptop).

Re: [SOLVED] Hangs on LM logo while booting

You should avoid cutting the power to shut down, it often causes this sort of problem. To shut down and restart an unresponsive Linux computer, hold down CTRT-ALT-PRTSCR and typing REISUB (this is far worse than the Windows 3-fingered salute to achieve - it helps if you can borrow another hand). See...

Re: Firefox as default browser

Well that dpkg command helped me find the culprit - it was flashplayer-mozilla that depends on iceweasel or a www-browser - removed that and firefox can be removed. However, after reinstalling firefox: update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for x-www-browser I have also now lost Thunderbird fro...

What happens if you run Mint from the Live CD or Live USB? Do you see the same max processor speed?
