Re: how to kill audio stream

MrEen: That works! Although I don't see it, does this allow one to actually disconnect the stream?-Just curious, as this Pulse Audio is really cool and functional. I'll put it on all my machines. A big help was that I discovered (via Pulse Audio) that the troublesome stream was actually coming from ...

how to kill audio stream - SOLVED

Hi All: Sparing y'all the frustration, I had audio stream nr. 1 (through Firefox) playing. Then I wanted to switch to stream nr. 2, but although I searched players and such, I could not find a way to kill stream nr. 1. Meaning that I either heard both at once, or I had to shut down the whole damn ma...

How to change cursor?

Hi All: Seems I remember running across a setting (once upon a time) that would allow you to change the cursor style. I can't find it now. What I would like to do is get rid of the clunky capital letter "I" shaped cursor (that partially obliterates text) to the underscore style one (that does not. A...

Re: Overwhelming system report

smurphos: Thanks for those links. I read and saved them. I can see just by the sheer volume of the report that it is the sort of project to get into when you have a few centuries to spare..... Seriously though, is there some sort of diagnosis/repair programme that would run through the problems and ...

Re: Overwhelming system report

Hi Pierre, Moem: I'm trying to remember the hows and whys of it. It seems that I ran the test, but then had to deal with some other upended project the distraction from which caused me to forget about it. The machine "runs as it should" but the checksum discrepancy bothers me. The genesis of this is...

Overwhelming system report-SOLVED

A month or so ago I remember running some sort of analysis report. With the crush of other things, I forgot about it, but tonight I ran across the result whilst looking for other things. It brought back memories of the last checksum on this (19.1) install not being right.... I found it saved as "Tig...

Re: Trying to formulate a Network Attached Storage solution

WharfRat: That (docking station) looks interesting...can it work via a LAN? This is necessary because I have 5 computers to be hooked up to my LAN, and I need them all to be able to access the drives; read, write, backup and etc. While about $10 cheaper than the single-drive NAS's, the docking stati...

Trying to formulate a Network Attached Storage solution

Hi all: It seems that a NAS device would solve a lot of problems around here. However, equipment descriptions/specifications are vague and amorphous: (and) although I've done some research, the supply of details is rather thin. There are many single-unit devices that would seem a perfect fit for my ...

Re: What does "browser.cache.frequency_experiment" do?

smurphos: The first article has some logic to it. The second has some sinister overtones (it's Mozilla: Quelle surprise!). It seems every time I turn around I discover some new way Mozilla is collecting/aggregating data. I am thinking that the best solution might be checking if the Tor browser conta...

What does "browser.cache.frequency_experiment" do?

Hi All:

All this recent and utterly unnecessary trouble with Firefox led me to this:

browser.cache.frequency_experiment

What is it? what does it do? Searches default to other topics. Even pasting it into/onto the address bar in Mozillazine yields a blank screen.

Anyone know?

Thanks

Well, I went through the entire list. Changed everything that made sense. Here's the screenshot. And....yes, Thunderbird still says 350MB.

Re: Thunderbird cache

Lanser: Went to about:config "browser.cache.disk..." as instructed. Mine too was set at "250", which made me wonder why I would be getting 350 when it was set to 250. At any rate, I set it to 0, closed then opened Thunderbird, and got?.... 350. So to make doubly and triply sure I closed Firefox then...

Re: Thunderbird cache

Lanser: No such animal on my TB. This is what I see, changing it is futile, (it always returns to 350) and I could find nothing in the "Config Editor" that matches, or is similar to, "override automatic cache management". The "Config Editor" seems to be in common with the browser. The reason for th...

Thunderbird cache

Hi All: Mozilla just seems to have an insatiable desire to give websites places to store stuff on your computer. Thunderbird's cache is a case in point. It is determined to set itself at 350 MB. I would like to set it to 1 MB, or better yet, eliminate it. Yet no matter how many times I reset it, no ...

Re: WiFi worries

Hi TriggerX: Doesn't your router have Wi-Fi capability? You should be able to enable Wi-Fi on that, it seems more logical for your router to handle that task, anyway. However, since you mentioned an inboard Wi-Fi, you might want to check for a battery on that card: it might be holding on to a settin...
