Re: <SOLVED> Shutdown too fast for Virtualbox Windows 7 VM

I have found other forum references to Windows 7 requiring two acpi shutdown signals. The evidence for this is not clear but my previous last service unit code post worked most of the time but I have added an ExecStopPost for a second acpi shutdown to be sent. [Unit] Description=VM Windows7Pro After...

Re: <SOLVED> Shutdown too fast for Virtualbox Windows 7 VM

Made two changes to the service commands in the previous post. Changed the second ExecStop to ExecStopPost, and changed the wait to 25. At a wait of 15 it was on the edge and sometimes the host will shut before W7 is done. [Unit] Description=VM Windows7Pro After=vboxweb-service.service Before=shutdo...

Re: Shutdown too fast for Virtualbox Windows 7 VM

My goal is to shut the system by closing the laptop lid with W7 shutting cleanly. After using the grey cells I pieced this together that is working: [Unit] Description=VM Windows7Pro After=vboxweb-service.service Before=shutdown.target reboot.target halt.target [Service] User=xyz Group=vboxusers Typ...

Re: Shutdown too fast for Virtualbox Windows 7 VM

Kadaitcha Man, at that link I found: final.target A special target unit that is used during the shutdown logic and may be used to pull in late services after all normal services are already terminated and all mounts unmounted. I'm lost. I don't know how to use this. Can't find any examples. Update: ...

Re: Shutdown too fast for Virtualbox Windows 7 VM

My understanding is that the service file commands operate asynchronously to the running of the ExecStop command. I tried an ExecStop=/bin/sleep 8 with no effect on the speed of the host shutdown.

<SOLVED> Shutdown too fast for Virtualbox Windows 7 VM

I have set up a service to startup and shutdown a Virtualbox Windows 7 VM when booting up Linux Mint or shutting down the system. The service file is as follows: [Unit] Description=VM Windows7Pro After=network.target vboxdrv.service Before=runlevel2.target shutdown.target [Service] User=xyz Group=vb...

GUI for Systemd services (updated) ?

Is there any recommended gui to manage systemd services? Found article "Graphical interfaces for systemd" at https://www.linux-magazine.com/Issues/2017/199/Systemd-Graphical-Tools but I am not sure which if any of the five tools they mention are compatible with Linux Mint 19.3 Kcmsystemd systemd Sys...

Re: Autostart Virtualbox Win7 used by several Linux host users

I am researching this issue and will post here the results in detail. I did find the RDP emulation Remmina for Linux that works but in getting it to connect determined that there are Virtualbox networking issues to resolve first.

Re: Acronis Disk Director: clone of v19.3 still bootable?

I have decided that HDclone Free Edition will meet my needs.
Apparently with Gparted the partition can be extended into the free space on the target disk so I don't need purchase any non-free version of HDclone.

Re: Autostart Virtualbox Win7 used by several Linux host users

I have seen many references to auto-starting a Virtualbox VM in forums but one thing confuses me. If each user account is set to auto-trigger VM start on login then what happens when UserA switches out and UserB logs in? My thought from working in other OS's is to start the VM at boot detached or he...

Thank for reminding me of RDP, and I see that the VM can be started headless during bootup.

Tested HDclone: Free Edition cloned and booted

On another forum topic someone mentioned HDclone. I installed in on Windows 7 - it was able to create a bootable USB. Booted the USB and cloned my Mint boot disk to a larger disk that I booted on another system. The Free Edition only does a straight copy with no resizing features. I ran Disks from t...

Autostart Virtualbox Win7 used by several Linux host users

I am still a relative newbie to Linux Mint. There are still several important Windows 7 apps that I have to continue to use until conversions/replacements are found in Linux. I tried to use Wine (and even 5.0) but without enough success to completely abandon Windows 7. So I have a Virtualbox Windows...

Thanks for the pointer on lack of ext4 support in Disk Director.
Will research further.

<SOLVED> Acronis Disk Director? Will instead use HDclone

I will need to clone my Linux Mint 19.3 to larger SSD. Acronis verified that their Disk Director v12 can clone to a larger disk that will still boot if its an MBR disk and not GPT. The following command seems to verify that I have an MBR boot disk. It shows "Partition Table: msdos". $ sudo parted -l...

Just tried two other Logitech wireless mice and both work properly.

My M505 just decided to go bad. I probably should delete this thread.

Just tried an HP wired USB mouse and it works with none of the issues when using the Logitech M505 wireless mouse.

<SOLVED> Bad Logitech M505 Mouse Pointer

The Logitech M505 wireless mouse seems way too sensitive. I often easily get double clicks and it easily grabs text to move when trying to highlight. When I try to grab a window to move it puts a double click to max the window. Can't resize windows by grabbing the lower right corner - maybe get a pa...

Konsole window doesn't close after script ends

From the Dolphin file manager I am running a script in a Konsole window. After the last script command line the window doesn't exit. Hitting enter just gives a new line; no prompt. I added exit to the end of the script but it had no effect. If I run the same script from a shortcut on the desktop usi...
