Re: Problem with WIFI HP printer

Have you tried to re-add the printer via Admin > Printers?

Re: Linux Mint and Windows 8.1 and Windows 10

Agree with Pierre.
I've used the 'Something Else' option effectively on all my multiboot systems.

Make sure you back up any important data before you start changing partitions and installing.

Re: The Dreaded "Preparing to Install" Spinwheel - Stuck

If you don't have much RAM, try disabling the Ubiquity Slide Show before installing.

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-*

Re: Cannot Dual Boot Mint with Windows 10

Try to boot the Mint Installer in Recovery Mode.
I suspect you have a graphics card driver issue.
If you get Mint installed, go to Driver Manager and select the recommended driver.
Reboot in normal mode.

Are there any Security options in the BIOS, such as Secure Boot?
If so, disable them.

50GB for a Linux distro sounds good to me as well.

Re: Why does linux not take effect immediately?

It's nothing to do with Linux being buggy. You took the decision to update the Kernel - why? Really, how do you expect a Kernel change to be implemented during an active session? Why are you surprised that a piece of hardware now no longer works? Why not select the previous Kernel at boot and see if...

Re: Problem with WIFI HP printer

I don't actually know, because I have an Epson printer. This did not require a hard wired connection to any of the PCs I have installed Linux on.

My best advice is follow Pjotr's guide as above. They have proved invaluable in my quest to learn Linux Mint.

Re: Memtest86 results?

Agreed, the RAM is bad and needs replacing or that rig abandoning.

Only you will know whether it is economical to replace the RAM or not.

In England we have Freegle where you can post wanted ads to your local community for items wanted.
Do you have anything similar in Poland?

Re: Not enough shrink space?

Yep, disable paging and hibernation and then do a multi-pass defrag before shrinking.
Then re-enable paging and hibernation.
You may also need to disable System Restore if there are still unmovable files blocking the shrink.

Re: Live cd 17.1 reboots after 'loading initrd.lz...ready'

Maybe the DVD/CD drive itself is faulty?

Have you checked to see if there is a more recent BIOS version?

If none of my suggestions help, then I concede I am out of my depth and hope someone else more experienced can help.

Re: Live cd 17.1 reboots after 'loading initrd.lz...ready'

Seemingly it is possible for a DVD to work fine on one machine, but fail on another.

I'd try [burning] the ISO to a USB pen-drive with the application rufus (in Windows) and try the installation again.

Re: Will you upgrade to Win 10 upon release?

I will be upgrading from Win7 to Win10 on my test laptop that is currently a Win7/10 Insider dual boot (tomorrow or Sat) Then I'm going to nuke the Win10 Insider partition and install Mint 17.2 RC KDE. I will base how Windows upgrades and then runs on whether to upgrade the remainder of my Win 7/8.1...
