Re: Mint as Gaming platform?? Looking to change to Linux OS.

Linux is great for gaming since there isn't as much bloatware running in the background as there is in windows & maybe even mac? I have a laptop that is just meant for web browsing & I can run games on it flawlessly as long as it's not to demanding of course. It's all ready been recommended ...

Re: Who has managed to keep the oldest computer still alive and kicking?

The oldest computer I have ever had was a 2002 windows XP desktop it lasted until 2016 when I accidentally installed a 64 bit OS on it which made it lock up completely to the point it wouldn't even boot into the bios or anything. So eh I probably fried the motherboard or something. Second oldest is ...

Re: Returning to linux mint

Might want to run a test on the HDD, 2.5mbps is really slow even for 5400rpm drive. Drive might be damaged, these Dell retail laptops do tend to run hot.To test HDD, start Disks, select HDD on the left pane, click 3 horizontal bar icon at upper right corner, select SMART Data & Self-Test and do...

Re: need help with japanese font

Can you provide a link to an example. Examples that Google finds me all work. And do you mean the text you type in Japanese doesn't show correctly, or the Japanese text from the program itself? Possibly this is an issue with the program specifying a specific font to be used that can't be mapped on ...

Re: Problem with update manager

Raring? How on earth did you get software sources of the long dead Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail in your sources list? And watch out with PPA's. The quality of your Mint depends largely on the quality of your software sources. Stick to the default official software sources.... I have no idea...
