Re: Fax for 19.1

... I would prefer to move to Linux and be able to fax but I may have to accept that fax is dead even if the insurance companies aren't. I agree that using a service might be a way out of this. However, I often have to fax documents to health care providers and insurance companies and they have not...

Re: Very Slow Boot

Well, I'm not that good at this terminal thing. That's why I came to this help forum. I'm sure that it gets tiring for those that know what to do, trying to dumb it down for some of us that don't. Please be patient with me and try to take me in hand to work this out. I really do appreciate all the ...

I am trying to find a good manual which includes most of the frequently used terminal commands. Way back when, in DOS, I had such a book and it was most helpful. Any suggestion?

Re: Calc has stopped me migrating from Windows to Linux Mint

... The major headline - the show-stopper - is that Calc cannot process linked workbooks reliably. It therefore cannot fill the shoes of Excel, leaving Excel as the only show in town. This kills off any possibility that Calc could have had to be a member of a cross-platform/multi-platform office en...

Re: Fax for 19.1

I have an external fax modem (Best Data 56K) connected via RS-232. I used something called minicom to make sure my serial port was recognized and connected. Now I want to install some software to be able to use the modem. I tried LibreOffice and attempted to fax a document via the print command. No...

Re: Windows 7 can't save anything on pendrive runned on linux

... I think cause I save some files under linux, pendrive have this exfat file system? And windows can't save anything in this file format? I think you might be confusing EXT4 with exFAT. EXT4 is use by Linux and cannot be read by Windows. exFAT can be read by both Linux and Windows. Check to see i...

I'd have to agree with the others.

Too many partitions to worry about. No need. Keep your disk simple.

Re: possibly awkward newbie question about support for Linux

To add to Moem's response, the "z" switch in the inxi command is what suppresses confidential information.

Yes, in order to get the information of the DVD, you'd need to have it hooked up before running the inxi -Fxz command.

Re: New here, New to Linux

Welcome to the forums!

My advice is to think of it as learning to drive. You turn the key, put it in drive, and go. After doing that for some time, then you might want to learn what's under the hood.

Re: Oh my garsh!!! my SSD is going to fail tomorrow !!!

Good eye catcher of a title, AZgl1500. I know it was meant in humor, but it is not a pun. But...your SSD will fail tomorrow, you just don't know on what the day that the "tomorrow" will be. I have an SSD and I hope it will last several years, but backup every month to another disk because any...

Re: possibly awkward newbie question about support for Linux

... - To take a moment on what I did do, in any case, I had a lot of trouble installing Linux 17.x. This has included: a) I can't tell with absolute certainty whether my machine is 32 or 64 bit (is there a sure-fire way to do this?). Welcome to the forums! Re: Copy 18.3 data files to 19.1

Thanks. To be clear, I am running a quadruple boot system with 18.3 as default. Originally it was triple boot but I had to install 19.1 to solve a problem - this was already dealt with on these boards. The other boots are Windows 10 and Kubuntu. I could not find a folder (?) on any disk called 'Pla...

Re: Grsync destination setting

Since adopting Linux Mint 19 months ago I regularly back up my home folder to an external USB stick using Grsync. As recommended I have a trailing / after the source, but the instructions are unclear about whether a / is needed after the destination. I do have that / after the destination on the as...

Welcome to the forums!

As for your refresh rate, try Control Center, Display. See if there's something to change that.

I have 19.1 Xfce and this is my Display window from Settings (Control Center):

Re: Linux 13 geen koppen, onzichtbare mail en meer

Ten eerste: dit is een vertaling van Google. Ik spreek geen Nederlands dus ik hoop dat dit correct overkomt. Een back-up van uw bestanden kost waarschijnlijk de meeste tijd, afhankelijk van het aantal en de grootte van elk. Een installatie neemt geen dag in beslag. Elke keer dat ik een nieuwe instal...

Re: Partitioning on single boot 500GB SSD with separate /home partition

... Do I need a /boot/efi partition as mentioned in https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=279663&start=20? If unsure, what would determine whether I need it or not? Should I select 'Primary' as the type for each partition? If not, which partition(s) should be 'Primary' and which partiti...
