Re: install to usb on Linux but use on Windows?
In order to install a full installation of LM onto a USB, you'll need to boot a live USB/DVD of LM. It's just like installing onto a hard disk. The one problem is that if you install LM onto the USB in EFI mode (the mode that the live version was started in), then the full version will be installed ...

Re: [SOLVED] Secondary disks not automounting
... EDIT: I believe I fixed it, using sudo chown ben:ben /mnt/TOSH/ Anyway, I was able to copy a file to it without opening a root file manager. This stuff is exhausting, LOL. Luckily, once you get it ironed out you don't usually have to keep doing it. I know it can be daunting. When a partition is...

... I didn't know about the SEND TO option, probably because I've been using Nemo as my main file manager, and that doesn't show up in Nemo's contextual menu. But I still have Thunar, and that one works for this. ... Very glad everything worked out. P.S. That's another reason I switched from Cinnam...

Re: Secondary disks not automounting
Thanks so much! I've been rebooting right and left because I know that the changes don't take effect until I do. I didn't know about the SEND TO option, probably because I've been using Nemo as my main file manager, and that doesn't show up in Nemo's contextual menu. But I still have Thunar, and th...

I'd recommend Shutter. The program has lots of options (compression level, jpg/png/bmp, location of saved files, etc.)
You would have to add a PPA to get Shutter.

Here's the result of the send to desktop command:
You could then rename that link (shortcut to whatever you'd like (in your case such as Gwen or Tosh).- Sun Feb 28, 2021 12:14 pm

Re: Secondary disks not automounting
... Ideally, it would be nice if they just showed up on the desktop. The other linux distro I used before Mint did this with these two disks, although the first time I clicked on them after booting I was asked for my password, then they became usable. Here, there's not even an icon, hence my resort...

Re: Secondary disks not automounting
... However, I have a second internal HDD with two exFAT partitions on it. No matter how I set the checkmarks in the Disks interface, these two partitions will not appear unless I mount them manually. When I unchecked the "show in user interface" button (a common proposed solution), they ...

Re: Secondary disks not automounting
Is what I'm asking impossible? This makes it sound like it is. No, it was possible. Sorry that I didn't read this sooner. You could have gotten your NTFS partitions (GWEN and TOSH) auto mounted, then have a link (shortcut) to the mount point put on the desktop. Sounds like what you wanted to do?

Re: Jumping into Linux Mint
Welcome to Mint and the forums! If you find that Mint Cinnamon is to much for one or more of your systems, you may want to try the other desktop environments, namely MATE or Xfce. We have a Gateway desktop and an HP laptop that's running fine on Mint. The HP laptop has dual boot: Windows 10 and Mint...

Re: Thumbdrive between Mint & Win10?
sarge816, When you formatted the thumbdrive, did you do it in Windows or Mint? I've tried it both ways Jerry, doesn't seem to make much difference. I found an article about "properly" ejecting drives in Linux before plugging them into Windows, so I may experiment with unmounting the usb d...
