Re: installed new kernel, network gone!

Well, yes. No one can download anything from the internet if you're not connected to the internet. My suggestion was foolish. There may be a way to download the files needed from another computer and then install the kernel(s) that way. Unfortunately, I am not knowledgeable with that.

Re: Installing VirtualBox

I had not thought of this aspect. Probably I would run Win XP SP3 so I can keep on running the software I am using but if I need to get a Win XP license then I can forget the whole idea. With XP SP3, I think you'll be ok with the license. I do remember reading (from you in another post?) that you'r...

Re: Installing VirtualBox

Which version of Windows do you want to run?

The reason I ask is that Windows 8 and 10 OEM licenses are 'attached' to your system when they get activated, and can't be used on another machine, even if it's a virtual machine.

Re: installed new kernel, network gone!

Have you tried manually installing an older kernel from the Update Manager and then starting Mint from Grub Advanced?

Try a kernel from the 4.4 series.

Re: Updates

Hope I put this in the right place. A question, I am running Linux Mint 18.3 x64 and when I get updates there are those that have a 1,2,3 or 4 beside the update. The ones with 1 or 2 are checked the others are not. So, is it necessary or needed that the updates with a 3 or 4 beside them be installe...

Re: Anithing NOT in Software Manager is safe?

hix,

A suggestion I read from the more knowledgeable than I am:

Create another user and test new things using that account. Many times, if something goes wrong, it's the user's account that gets damaged but not other accounts.

Now I just need Linux to practice Bash for my exam.
An option that might be good is to create a Live Mint USB flash drive with persistence and use that to practice Bash.

... There are way too many kernel updates...Only thing is that the invitation to upgrade to the 4.15.0-series came from Mint itself and now it is not working. Yes, there are many kernel updates. Too many---I disagree. They are needed because there are always new systems on the market with new CPUs,...

Re: Were you to buy an AIO for around 60 bucks, what?

On newegg or amazon, what all in one scanner/printer would you get that works in Linux for less than 60 bucks? Used would be fine for me, I could go on ebay. None. Been down that dark, winding road several times. I finally stopped the madness and got a decent AIO. The old saying, "You get what you ...

@ Jerry.
My settings are like your yours for Options. As for Levels, I asked that Level 4 be visible,
If you've been installing the Level 4 visible ones, then that may be a cause.

Can you post the settings you have in Update Manager?

For example, I have these settings:

Update Preferences 2.JPG
Update Manager Levels

Re: ASUS mini ... is Mint installation possible ???

Can't read the last post's pic. Try using a larger resolution, and save the pic with more compression. In Shutter (a linux app to take snapshots) I use 50 out of 100 for the quality and full screen pics are under 100K. I can read the other pic. It look like there's 8 GB total partition for Mint syst...

Hello Jerry,

It does indeed. No problem with the touch-screen. I have not tested the pen device.
The reason I asked is that my guess, and only a guess, is that the touchscreen is taking over and disables the touchpad.
