Re: Brother printer installation instructions unclear

I just went to the Brother website and noticed that they have lots of .deb files for installing a printer and/or scanner. You should use those. They are much easier to use. They are similar to using an .exe file to install drivers. When you download your model's .deb file, just double-click the file...

Re: Wifi speed very poor

... They have a couple of nintendo ds that only work on the b band ... Do you think it would work any better on one band rather than all 3 being pushed out Thanks If the Nintendos only work in the b speed, you're going to see wifi router speeds slower than they should be. I had the same situation h...

Re: Wifi speed very poor

Just downloaded the manual for your model. It can run in 802.11b, 802.11g, and/or 802.11n. Do you know how to get into the setting for the router? If not, this is what the manual says: To log in to the web-based configuration utility: 1. Open a browser on your computer. Enter http://192.168.1.1 in t...

Re: Wifi speed very poor

Unfortunately, 802.11 doesn't give enough information for the wifi part.

The main types for routers can be 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11ac, 802.11n. Usually b, g, n are shown as b/g/n.

Re: Wifi speed very poor

Please don't apologize for the "noob" questions. That's what the forum is here for---questions, and answers.

I'd check the wifi router setting to see if it's in 802.11 n or ac mode.

Re: Anything for an easy life

Thanks for the welcome, I've already had a reply about my issue but it's made me feel like moron who's way out of his depth. I think I'll be needing some reading classes  Please don't feel that way :). I'm a Windows computer guy from the early 90's and have certification as a desktop technic...

Thanks for those suggestions. Unfortunately, those are accounting software apps and I didn't see any that did federal and state income tax returns.

Re: Windows Creator Update---ARGH!

What I've never found when researching the online versions is the degree of documentation you can retain on your home computer. Such as PDFs of the various forms. I...

Re: Windows Creator Update---ARGH!

I am having networking issues on my Win10 laptop at work. Very frustrating. I wish we could use Linux at work, but no. I was hoping Creators edition would fix it, but it still occurs. Similar problem for us too. My boss and I will get disconnected from WiFi every once in a while, for no reason---so...

Re: Apps' help links don't load in Firefox

Do you get here ? Most likely the application does not provide a local help file. (I don't use both of them.) Apart from the (reported!) rudeness, these apps do not have a local help file but offer a link to their online manual but the link doesn't get passed to the browser. If you don't know, just...

Re: Windows not booting

Can you boot into Linux? If so, open a Terminal window.
Copy and paste this command into Terminal

Code: Select all

lsblk -f

Then copy and paste the result and post it back here.

It wouldn't hurt to give us the result of this also:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
