Hmmm.

Which Mint version and type are you using? For example, mine is version: 18.1 type: Cinnamon.

Re: creating a website shortcut to desktop

Hi Carol2925,

Set the size of your browser's window so that you can see part of your desktop.
Go to one of the websites you want as a shortcut.
Select the web address in the address bar.
Drag the selected web address to the desktop.

Tomgin5 wrote:Since your LM is all ready installed, try going back into your boot order and have it now boot to the HD first, put the network last and the USB and or DVD almost the last. This will eliminate a lot of the wait times looking for something that no longer exist.

I'll do that, thank you Tomgin5!

Re: A small but controversial suggestion

I think the reason is that the "real" color of mint would be that it's too saturated and dark as a background for text.

Re: Virtualbox with salvaged hdd

Can you boot from the hard drive using the USB external enclosure?

Do you want to create a virtual system from the hard drive setup? I've tried that and it doesn't work if the version of Windows is OEM.

Re: Virtualbox help required

I am trying to get to grips with Virtualbox but I have a problem. I tried to install Xubuntu 64-bit in Virtualbox to try a different version of Linux. I get the error message "requires x86-64 CPU only detected an i686 processor" My machine has an AMD Athlon 64 3200 processor. I am running...

Re: Laptops suck.

OK so I've been shopping around for a new laptop because I just want a bit more processing power than my t7200 can offer. Of course, I'm trying to spend the minimum because it isn't that much of an upgrade I need. My options all suck. 3 trips to best buy and I just don't want anything. Everything i...

Re: How To Format The Rest of My SSD?

RAM is 16GB, yes, and the 3TB disk is being used for additional storage--that's already formatted and working fine. I went ahead and used Gparted to format the 410GB chunk as ext4/Primary Partition since it was the only option given me by Gparted, and now how to set up folders and such there so tha...

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install boot-repair

or get it from here https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/files/

Re: System Problem

In the past, with W$7, I was able to hibernate, on ,my laptop. This desktop has linuxmint 17.3/ubuntu only. When I try to sleep, hibernate, shut down, it just restarts, and I have to shut it down with the on and off button on pc. To open a terminal (similar to a command prompt in Windows), look for ...

Re: How To Format The Rest of My SSD?

There is no reason to use 410GB as swap. Swap only needs to be 1.5 to 2 times the size of your RAM. Will Mint be the only operating system on the disk? You should dedicate most of the 410GB to /home partition if you have one. Can you copy and paste the result of this command in terminal: lsblk -l N...

Re: Pix Editor "Healing" option

Anyone using/developing a picture editing program more than likely would know what a healing option is.

For those who don't: short answer---The healing option is a brush that can fix spots on a picture. A good example is removing blemishes from a person's face.

Re: Instalar windows después de linux mint

No recomendaría instalar XP. A pesar de que tendrá un software antivirus para él, hay otros problemas con un sistema operativo (XP) que no se está actualizando con actualizaciones de seguridad.

¿Tiene una versión más reciente de Windows?

¿Qué estás usando para ver Netflix?

Re: Kernel recommended for security

JeremyB,

I should have been more detailed with my question. xenopeek said that Hippokrat should use the latest 4.4 version, which would be 4.4.0-67.

So we should use 4.4.0-66, correct?

Re: Instalar windows después de linux mint

... Me gustaría instalar windows XP en la partición sda1 (no tengo especial preferencia, pero creo que en esa partición será más fácil), tengo el disco original comprado y registrado hace años.
