Re: I cant remove a file of my own

I have a problem with booting the Dropbox because i cant modify a file. There is a file in /.config/autostart/dropbox.desktop that I can not delete or modify (icon appears with a padlock). I figure as the owner user, with rights W and R, but for any attempt to delete or modify the CLI tell me "...

so, I dd bs=4M if=linuxmint-18.1-blah-blah.iso of=/dev/sdx && sync anyway, it doesn't seem to matter what I use, because it still ends up a screwy looking usb-flash-drive that says it's 4x the size it isn't.? -huh ? And please, lets' not say that you haven't seen this either, - LoL :) Ok, S...

Re: all-in-one printers - Canon v Epson v HP?

...So any thoughts are welcome - on Canon reliability, on how well Epson plays with Linux Mint, and on whether HP is the easiest/simplest option! I have an Epson XP-640 (they're called small-in-one). I like it. Has the options you requested and cost me $86. I had Canon, which I loved until I had to...

Re: Finding a program

An FYI: I tried to run it too, but nothing happens. Only when I right-click an image file and choose Open With; Other Application... does it run. Maybe Imagemagick is not meant to run as as a usual program like the Pix program because it doesn't have any menu options to open an image file. Capture_0...

Re: Installer encountered error copying files to hard disk

Installed from USB live as full erase and use entire drive. I'm starting to believe that the drive is write protected and I can't figure out how to remove that. I'm not too familiar with gparted but the options to remove or format the HD partitions did nothing. Any ideas? When you tried Gparted to ...

Re: Installer encountered error copying files to hard disk

Installing on old XP netbook machine... How did you install? As dual boot? Are there methods to check this hard drive/ test for bad sectors / or alternate installs. You could use a live Mint DVD or USB flash drive and use this fsck command. Check it out here: http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2012/08/fsc...

Hi. Welcome to LM This is actually a great topic for discussion as are some of the techniques you used to deal with it. As already stated, the update included a codec update. Codecs and what they are and what they cost (H.264 anyone) is for another discussion. Chrome is not natively installed on an...

Yes, all people have their hobbies or fetishes, either about sex, interests, travel or collect things. About collections, I know peoples that collect old watches, photo cameras, books (me too), and so on... Collecting computers is just a kind of collection like others. And, of course, this is the e...

Portreve, so putting the IP address in as http://192.168.x.x or http://10.x.x.x (obviously filling in the x's with your printed configuration results) doesn't bring up the HP EWS? The 10.x.x.x does , but only because it happened to re-connect to the router on its own for some reason. It's those mag...

Re: HP LaserJet P1102w web-based setup...

... In your web browser, you should be able to type in the IP address of the printer to get to the web interface. HP calls it EWS (Embedded Web Server). As for question 2, if you're using Cinnamon, go to System Settings, Keyboard, Shortcuts. You should be able to assign the super key to open the system menu. Hey, JerryF, thank you for your reply. Sadly, I am using KDE right now, because Cinnamon don't allow me to drag the system "taskbar"...
