Re: Can't connect 3 computers, 2 printers, 1 wifi

OK, I followed advice to turn off the firewall and the Simple scan recognized the scanner. I have to find a better way. Have you connected the printer wirelessly to the router? If Simple Scan works with the firewall off, you can create a rule with Firewall Configuration so that it will let communic...

Re: allow shared

so whilst I sit down and check all this out; first thing I would suggest is go to the PRINTERS folder; (usually inside ADMINISTRATION) ....... click on the SERVER item; top left; 2 down to SETTINGS: allow shared ........ as in the enclosed thumbnail; does that help anything; at all ? This isn't nec...

Re: Linux Mint 18 installation

When I run blkid now, I only have two partitions: sda1 and sda5... I never use extended partitions because they are slightly less stable than primary partitions. I've found that when you choose the ‘Erase disk...', it creates the root partition as a primary one (sda1), and creates an extended parti...

Re: Linux Mint 18 installation

Well, you definitely have decent specs for the computer. I'd check the 'BIOS' settings to see if everything's ok. If there's a fast boot, disable it. There may be some other settings that might need changing. I would try another program to burn the DVD. I've used Brasero and it hasn't failed me; oth...

Re: Telikin Infomercial - Computers for Seniors

I know a couple that bought one and they like it and when I came over to look at it I have to say that it is pretty decent. The only thing I find wrong with it is the price and it's an all in one type computer. Everything that a standard user needs is right there and easy to access. 8) Yes, I agree...

Re: Linux Mint 18 installation

Wow, this is a little funny. I just didn't believe my eyes so I rebooted my Linux machine that I'm working on day to day, not the one I'm building alongside of it. When I reran the checksums, they are now coming out exactly correctly. So it's not a checksum issue. It's something else. Now the quest...

Re: How to carry Mint on USB

Greetings I will be travelling shortly and would like to take LMint and a VM with me - though on a USB stick. I want to avoid carrying a laptop and hope to be able to boot via the stick on a host pc to execute emergency work (only if needed) in the VM. What will the VM's operating system be? If it'...

... I don't own anything with a touchpad, but I'm sure Mint has at least partial support for it. I searched the forums for 'touchpad' and a lot of people are using touchpads on Mint. I think Jim means touchscreen, not touchpad. Specs of my laptop are: Intel® Core™ i3-7100U (2.4 GHz, 3 MB cache, 2 c...

Re: Is the Grub Customizer a no, no?

I didn't know that Grub Customizer had the potential of giving so much headache in the event things goes wrong. I would try to localize those files and see if I can understand it better. Marziano, I did a fresh install of Mint 18.3 in Virtualbox. I copied the folders that grub uses. I then installe...

Re: Is the Grub Customizer a no, no?

Following the advice of Pjotr, me too I have stopped using the GC, but prior to that I had used it at some occasions, so I guess that I have those original grub files backuped somewhere. Where can I find them and which grub files are those that get heavily modified? Would be intersting to compare t...

Re: Is the Grub Customizer a no, no?

I tried both L and R Shift (independently) but never Esc. Interesting. Also I pressed and held the Shift right after the bios splash before and after the Mint logo and failed. Good to see your ideas as I did catch it can be tricky. After adding the Grub Mess-er-izer, I thought perhaps that I unchec...
