Re: Not able to boot multiple Linux Mint OS

When you run the Live DVD, open a Terminal window and run this command:

Code: Select all

[ -d /sys/firmware/efi ] && echo "Currently in EFI mode" || echo "Currently in Legacy mode"
It'll tell you either your Currently in EFI mode or Legacy Mode.

Re: Not able to boot multiple Linux Mint OS

Just a guess---maybe the live DVDs are running in UEFI mode instead of Legacy?

Re: Grub frustrations

Does anybody else struggle with grub? I have 4 kernels, with the latest being 4.4.0-128. I would like to boot into that kernel by default, but I always have to choose the advanced options on the grub menu. I've looked all over for a nice, easy way to make the 4.4-0 image the default, but it's like ...

From the OP's previous posts, it sounds like the problem is in verifying the signature of the hash file, not in verifying that the checksum of the .iso file matches the checksum in the hash file.
Thanks, I lost track.

Re: Desktop icons - Cinnamon

It is Mint 18.3. What appears is a vertical line of icons as expected but one is now on top of another. Elsewhere a gap appears between one group and the remainder. Unfortunately, you omitted which 18.3 (Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce) If you have Cinnamon, right-click on the desktop and set: Shutter-015.jpg

Re: Epson WF7720 Printer

One of the few weaknesses of Linux is printer compatibility. I gave up and email documents to my phone to print. You may also try Google Cloud Print if your printer is not compatible. If you have the proper drivers, then printing is not a problem. Johnstra just needs the drivers from the website, w...

Re: Epson WF7720 Printer

Also, go to this webpage to get Epson Linux driver for your printer. In the search box, type WF-7720 to find your drivers. http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/?OSC=LX There will be several choices within each. Re: Epson WF7720 Printer

Hi Johnstra,

Welcome to the forums!

Let's start here: in a Terminal window, run the following command, copy the output, and paste the results between code tags (the 5th button above where you type posts)

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz

Hi Jerry I am using linuxmint 18.3 cinnamon slyvia
Great! The reason I asked is that you can verify the checksum of an ISO directly from File Manager. It will give you the checksum to compare in the sha256sum.txt file.

Thank you Moem for confirming my post.

Because of your snide and condescending remarks, I'm unsubscribing from this post and I do hope to remember not to respond to another one of your posts ever again.

Re: xscreensaver startup

...I'm back. You shouldn't need to manually add the screensaver to Startup Applications. In a Terminal, copy and paste this line: xscreensaver & xscreensaver-demo A screensaver preferences window should open. Just to test, set the "Blank after" to 1 minute, then close that window. Don't touch the co...

Re: AMD R9 270

Have you tried running a Live DVD/USB of Mint with the video card installed and then checking to see if it works? Most hardware gets its drivers from the Linux kernel. It's not like it used to be such as Windows some years back where you had to install the driver for the OS to recognize the hardware...
