I'm definitely not a fan of online password generators. In my past life using Windows I've used the Excel spreadsheet as suggested above. Now, in the Linux world I generate a random password from the command line using a method suggested in this article https://tinyurl.com/glrcjlr .
Nice!

I'm not too far from you. I work in Athol MA and unfortunately left a window open a couple weeks ago. THe rain, driven by the wind, left a puddle that lasted 8 hours and almost ruined some product. We leave the windows in that area closed now, but with no Air Conditioning...UGH!!!
Huge bummer!

... It seems like the MBR is pointing to grub but even after reinstalling grub per #3, it still doesn't seem to have any information. ... Good to hear that your Windows is not damaged. Your disk is set up as GPT, so you don't have an MBR. For your disk, the bootloader must be placed in partition #2...

Re: Rain Finally

@HaveaMint, Great news! I read this post thinking how the people react to rain around here. I live in the state of Rhode Island, U.S. This area, along with other surrounding states is called New England. We have had high temps all summer. Mostly mid o high 80's ℉. When rain, or even the forecast of ...

Re: Permanently raise my mouse pointer speed above 100

I use a Lenovo laptop with a track point mouse (it's what I'm used to - I don't like touch pads.) I know how to change the speed by modifying the file sys/devices/platform/i8402/serio1/serio2/speed , and I set it to 250, which is much more comfortable. But something keeps resetting it back to 97, u...

Re: HELP PLEASE! Mint 19 install killed my computer

First, don't panic and try this, that, and the other that you've read. What you've read may not apply to you. Can you boot to the live Mint USB? If so, open a terminal and post the result of this command: parted -l You said: It had Windows 10 installed which I told it to leave. Did you use the optio...

Re: free online password generators: yay or nay

Read an interesting article that you can't always trust free online random password generators. I didn't have time to read much. But I thought it said something that a lot of them can use the same generic "random" passwords over and over making it more likely to be hacked by a bot. Thought I'd shar...

Re: Greetings from Bulgaria

Welcome, Neon Black! I too was a die-hard Windows guy for decades. When I delved into Linux, it was Ubuntu Unity. That turned me off. Stayed with Windows. I read more on other Linux distributions. Tried Linux Lite, Puppy Linux, Damn Small Linux, and Mint. Fortunately, Lite and Mint recognized my har...

Re: cinnamon vs (customized) xfce

I've noticed that too. I ran 19 Xfce live and found it using around what you said.

Side note: I've tried updating two of my 18.3 machines to 19 and get the same result---cannot continue due to an error. Fresh install is the way to go for me.

Re: Require password for users at login -- Mint 19 Cinnamon

Check to see if the two users "for which the login does not work properly" are in the nopwdlogin (not sure of the spelling) group. If they are, that may be why those two users don't need to enter their password.

How do I merge the sda1 partition with the unallocated space as shown below? I have tried the Live CD and a Gparted CD with no success. Thanks. Unfortunately, you can't the way it is right now. sda1 is a primary partition, and sda5 is a logical partition that is within the extended partition sda2. ...

... But secure boot won't allow mint. My idea: if the mint 19 live usb will load w/ secure boot... does that not mean that it has a config or shim that the ssd needs to have? Thx I wish I knew, but I don't. I have no experience with SSDs. Any computer that I've had, I turn off secure boot. I person...

Try creating a new, temporary user. Set a password for that user.

Then try logging in as the temporary user. Does it ask for a password?

... But, what extras it has against xfce? i mean, i can put all this effects via Compiz and have a desktop that uses between 1/2 or even 1/3 of resources. The only points i see in a quick look through Cinnamon is that Nemo seems to have more options than Thunar, the Menu is much cooler than Whisker...

Re: MINT 19 virtually on MSWindows 10+ laptop ?

First, welcome to the forums! If I were you, I'd experiment with Ubuntu and see if you like it. There are many who do, and use it, sometimes in addition to other Linux flavors, namely Mint. Here are some options: Try Mint from a live DVD/USB flash drive and test it out for a while. You could run Min...
