Re: Is there a proper way to change Qt fonts in xfce?

Remember good old fvwm...
Not fancy but stupid simple. On the other hand, no xorg.conf nor vesafb to mess around with. Well, there is no free lunch after all.

Cheers, Martin

[Solved] Is there a proper way to change Qt fonts in xfce?

I'm not sure, what I exactly did, but removing an old .config/gtk-2.0/ was part of it. Now changing the Appearance -> Style in qt5ct had an effect, which it did not have before. No idea, if some other magic was involved, but it works for me.

Thanks!

Re: Is there a proper way to change Qt fonts in xfce?

This is getting me one step further: Looks like I have some residue somewhere in my ~. A newly created user looks just fine, but my present home was taken from a previous install. I thought, I had removed all this, like stuff in .config .local. Where else would those things hide?

Can not set desktop background using "Desktop Settings" menu

Hi member,

I wonder what I messed at that point. When I try changing the background image using xfdesktop-settings, I can not select any custom image. No matter if I have a jpg, tiff or any other format, no image file is selectable but grayed out.
However, I can use "Set as Wallpaper" in Xviewer.

Power management settings do not aply system wide

Hi Members, on my Tricia xfce, the power management settings seem to only apply per user. When I, as an administrative user, basically disable all power save options this system will ignore this, when the screen is locked. Which means, from the login screen, a push on the power button will shut down...

Is there a proper way to change Qt fonts in xfce?

Hi members,

on my shiny new Tricia install, Qt applications don't look that nice for now. Font are too big and look clumsy. I wonder if there is a proper way to make Qt look just like they are in xfce/GTK?

Don't know if I can solve it but I can say there's no useful info there whatsoever, paste the text output of inxi -Fxz run in the terminal.
inxi does not tell you anything about it. This stuff is bound to the i2c bus. Which I can read and write to, but no fancy LED effects :-(

Is a weak password for root worse than no password?
Setting a weak password is definitively worse then setting none. Because a normal PAM setup requires a password to be present to log in.
There is a 'nullok' option for the PAM password module, but hopefully, no one ever uses this.

Re: sudo password caching

Sudo stores a timestamp of the last successful user's password check in /var/run/sudo/ts/. It does not get prolonged automatically. You can use 'sudo -v' to update this timestamp. You can invalidate this timestamp with 'sudo -k'. If and how long an authentication will be stored is set by 'timestamp_...

Fancy RGB lighting

Hi members, my shiny new hardware has LED lighting. Which is totally needless from a rational perspective, But it is cool. Unfortunately, I do not get any fanciness, because I can not change anything, it just shines in a pale blue. I found some kind of documentation and the OpenRGB, former OpenAura,...

Re: How to switch off the maximize feature on screen borders?

https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/preferences in the button layout drag the buttons you don't want away from title bar (active > hidden) [...] This was not what I meant, but close enough ti stumble over the item "Automatically tile windows...." in the Accessibility menu. This did the trick. Thanks!

begin try this:

Code: Select all

touch .config/fontconfig/fonts.conf

Code: Select all

xed .config/fontconfig/fonts.conf
[...]
after so update fonts cache:

Code: Select all

sudo fc-cache -fv
last: reboot or logout
Great, this absolutely did the trick!
I guess, the lcdfilter is the important thing?

Thanks!

Re: Software for copying drives

You may be right, but for "copying drives", dd is exactly the software you want to use. All others use rsync.
But, may be Doug B has solved this issue somehow different in the meantime. I did not even recognize this was from years ago.

Cheers.

[Solved] Ugly text fonts, is this an anti-aliasing thing?

Hi list members, I'm struggling with my new setup (Tricia xfce, Nvidia proprietary), console fonts in particular. Fonts in a browser are quite ok, but the console fonts are a mess. Window decorations an other windows text fonts kind of ...well, not ok, but one can work with it. A plan text console, ...

Re: Software for copying drives

If you want to clone a device or partition, 'dd' is your friend. Read the man page, block size is important with ssd's!
If you want to copy a file system's content (aka files & directories), use 'rsync', probably as root.

Re: Where to activate 'Focus under mouse'?

Ah! For some odd reason, 'Window Manager' did not show up in the settings menu, I just saw the 'Window Manager Tewaks' config. I had to use the 'Search' option, now I'm fine!

Thanks!
