Since the last update, my laptop is now now bricked. I have an ASUS AMD A4 with a Radeon HD8670M graphics driver. I have tried the following steps: sudo Xorg -configure sudo cp /home/oobe/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf startx Completely useless. What' maddening is no one whatsoever seems to know j...

My original post was on for quite some time and no one responded. Where is this post? Facebook? Not the right place to post for technical help. Yes some developers do get paid by donations to the linux foundation of which I am a donor, so I have license to complain. None of the Mint developers or t...

Re: Will one of you developers take some responsibility for your error? Steam: OpenGL GLX extension not supported by dis

Am I the only one who's annoyed by the insolent and inappropriate shout "WILL ONE OF YOU DEVELOPERS TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ERROR? --edit: I see that one of the mods has already replaced the uppercase of the shout by lowercase. Well done. That leaves the offensive content intact, ...

Unable to install/deinstall any programs due to Nvidia driver

Apparently my nvidia driver is obsolete. One would think this would be no problem to uninstall an old driver and reinstall the latest. Well unfortunately, this isn't so simple. Whenever I try to install anything I am prompted to rund sudo dpkg --configure -a If I do that I get the following prompt: ...

Re: Will one of you developers take some responsibility for your error? Steam: OpenGL GLX extension not supported by dis

Not a developer and it ticks me off  I want my cake and eat it too Oh yeah? How exactly am I "wanting my cake" and to eat it too"? Do you even understand what that means? Apparently not. For your expression to actually work, I would have to install bleeding edge packages (level 5) and then thr...

Will one of you developers take some responsibility for your error? Steam: OpenGL GLX extension not supported by display

Ever since the last MDM update on 26.07.2017, Steam will not work anymore. I've tried posting to the facebook forum and no one knows anything. First off I'd like to say, this really blindsided me. If I had installed a level 4 or 5 update, then this would be all my fault, but this was a level one upd...

Problems using different Locales

Hi guys. I am using GNUcash to do my taxes. I'm an English native speaker, so normally my computer is running in English. However, live in Germany. In order to generate reports in German (since GNU Cash ties its language to the system language), I need to temporarily change the locale. Well no matte...

Crowdfunding Porting Programs to Linux

Does anyone know if there is an organized effort to crowd fund porting programs to linux? I know crossover does it, but it's not cheap, especially if you're just one person like me. Crossover said a program costs 3000 dollar, plus 150 dollars an hour for special development plus 5 dollars per licens...

Very strange problem with the GUI

Hello, I have a very strange problem with my GUI. I have had the problem with standard mint and LMDE2, but I will post here because I prefer LMDE and I think this is a subject for advanced users. First things first, I will tell you what I'm using: MSI B85-G43 16 GB 4x 4GB Kingston ram, 1333 MhZ DDR3...

Re: Hangs on installation...

Is this solving your problem? Oddly enough, I managed to overcome this problem by stopping the installer in terminal via Ctrl+C... and then it magically unfroze and continued to the disk selection screen. Thank you! I had exactly the same problem and never was able to fix this error. I will install...

Gui freezing on everything but mouse

Hi, I saw on the forums that this error has existed as far back as edition 12. Well, I am having this problem with Mint 17.1. What happens is, the entire GUI freezes with the exception the cursor. I know you can hit killall Xorg, but seriously, 4 years this problem has persisted. I wish the devs wou...

Yes. In addition I also made both a cinnamon and a mate version from two separate download sources.. Both freeze at precisely the same action.

Re: Review of LMDE 2

I believe you. The screen you are showing, never appeared because the one directly in front of it (where you pick a password, username, etc) caused the live dvd to time out. Believe me, I gave it time (10min). As a control, I pulled out my Mint 17.1 dvd and it worked flawlessly. I'm reporting my exp...

Review of LMDE 2

I originally was using LMDE and was quite satisfied, but I wanted to try the new version, so I backed everything up and made an install DVD, specifically LMDE Mate. One of the things I really hoped would be improved on is the installer. I like LMDE better, because I advocate getting away from Ubuntu...

I solved the problem and here's how I did it. To review, my computer has the following hardware: Mainboard: MSI B85-G43 Intel i7 4790K processor 16 GB DDR 1333Ghz Kingston ram 120 GB Intel solid state hard drive 500GB Seagate hard drive (standard, sata) At this time, the Nouveau drivers simply don't...

Re: Black screen with EVGA Geforce GTX 750 Ti

Here's an idea. Could I theoretically disable the graphic card and just use the stock mainboard DVI, then install mint. Then install the proprietary drivers from Nvidia? Then reinstall the graphic card? I mean I'm probably going to install Nvidia's drivers anyway as you can tell from my hardware pro...
