Do you mean the lock screen before Rafaela was released? I don't recall having any issues with that, it's only since Rafaela I've had this issue.

17.2 Cinnamon Screensaver Freezing

At seemingly random times, my screensaver would completely freeze, and I am unable to kill Cinnamon or even the X-server, making a cold reboot the only way to use my computer. There doesn't seem to be any single cause, it just happens. My other computer running LMDE MATE has had no issues with the s...

Re: Does Mint Need a Face-Lift?

I think the default theme represents what Mint is about: a no-nonsense distro that focuses on functionality and "getting things done" and doesn't try to chase after every new feature/"cool thing" in the open source world. While I wouldn't mind it being changed, it still think it needs to keep the gr...

Re: Linux Mint for an older laptop, is it a good idea?

With those specs, I would probably say you're better off with Mint Xfce. Another one you could look at is Xubuntu 14.04, though there shouldn't be any issues with Mint. Oh, and I've been trying to access to the Linux Mint blog to see the requirements, but for some reason the page doesn't load. The r...

Re: Will Firefox Become Chrome 2.0?

I think the impending death of Firefox is a bit exaggerated. Chrome didn't really have much of a presence until 2010, but then it gobbled up gigantic portions of the market. You can't have a new browser come out of nowhere and take 40% of the market share and not have some other browsers lose market...

Re: Linux Mint after 2016! What do you expect?

While the Ubuntu base has been very good, I do think that Mint will eventually move to Debian, since Debian is a little less of a moving target. I feel sorry for the devs in 2016, having to catch up with 2 years of Canonical craziness to release LM 18 if that's the base they're going with. I do thin...

Thanks for the responses!
lurkatron wrote:i think those dotted lines appear when you're using a gtk theme thats made for another version of gtk than 17.2 uses
Is there a PPA for a more up-to-date version of GTK3? Or would that mess up dependents/dependencies and and just create a total mess?

Dotted Lines when running certain Themes

I'm trying to run the CinnXP theme with Mint 17.2, but when I run the theme, there are now visible dotted lines around text boxes (for example in the Themes window, there are now dotted text boxes around "Icons", "Desktop", "Mouse Pointer", etc.) Another machine running LMDE2 has no issues. I would ...

Re: Level 5 entries in Update Manager

While Level 5 updates rarely break things (*buntu distros don't classify the updates, it just does all of 'em), unless the computer is handling very sensitive data, or anything like that, not installing the latest level 4 and 5 updates won't really hurt anything. If you need the latest update for so...

Best reply that I've ever heard of: keep a referee whistle next to your phone. When they call, talk very, very softly. Then suddenly blow that whistle as loud as you can, close to the phone mouthpiece. Now I have to find my whistle. :D Sometimes the scammers are not very good at what they...

Go to Software Sources -> Additional Repositories, disable any Steam-related repos, then update the cache. I had this problem, but disabling those repos fixed it for me. I have Cinnamon, but I think that Software Sources is the same, since its a minty application. No idea why steam is causing issues...

Re: Mint KDE vs Kubuntu

One legendary donkey starves to death because it has no reason to choose between two equidistant and equally tempting piles of hay. Definitely this. Kubuntu and Mint KDE are great distros. You really can't go wrong with either of them. If you choose Kubuntu, it's probably better to stick with LTS (...
