Re: Is windows 10 gonna start locking up?

@altire4

Thanks for clarifying that. Now I guess the only thing I hope it won't do is constantly try to update.

Re: Is windows 10 gonna start locking up?

@Portreve The reason I'll never switch back to console is because I've noticed the benefits of PC gaming ever since a friend converted me from being a console gamer all my life. (primarily benefits to me are mods and faster loading times) @altiar4 That statement in bold makes it sound to me like the...

Is windows 10 gonna start locking up? SOLVED

I came across this article recently and now I'm wondering if someday my win10 will lock up on me because some piece of hardware I have stopped being supported by its manufacturer. https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2017/07/27/microsoft-windows-10-upgrade-free-problems-specs/#5c21218a4031 Would...

Re: Photobucket Is Holding People's Photos For "Ransom"

I hope this kind of thing doesn't start happening with cloud services.(i.e. you now need to pay to keep your data on the cloud service) Never used photobucket but wouldn't you need a subscription anyway after uploading a certain amount of photos?

Re: Does anyone code?

I'm surprised no one has said http://www.tutorialspoint.com Like others I would also recommend Python as your first language since it is used for a wide-range of things. (e.g. you wouldn't have to decide if you wanted to do software development or web development. That's not entirely true but in a w...

funny thing I came across

Most of have probably heard of the term "script kiddie" and although that includes myself I recently realized that I didn't have a concrete understanding of the definition of script kiddie and wanted to read an actual definition. Upon googling I noticed something funny in the search results. There w...

Re: All sorts of trouble installing a program. It's telling me that the current user doesn't have permission

Sorry my bad sudo -H thing should be sudo -H mac mac being your username. Also have others been able to install this package? I'm wondering because based on the first paste you did of terminal output trying to install it, it looked like installation was broken in terms of the process itself because ...

Re: All sorts of trouble installing a program. It's telling me that the current user doesn't have permission

Couple of things.

1. to make sure for certain that your pip is up-to-date do sudo apt-get update and the sud apt-get upgrade.
2. from the man page it sounds like sudo -H would make sure you have full control over your home directory. Did you try it?

Re: ran into a firefox virus (scamware)

Hi "coder123", Installed all the one's you mentioned. Thanks. Would mind explaining the difference between Disconnect and the combination of Privacy Protector Plus and UBO? Disconnect seemed like overkill from the description I read. You are welcome... I would read there descriptions, and they some...

...are you saying that the experience I refer to in this thread was the result of a hack? .... Well, what the frak else would you call it? Like I said before you're probably right. It just never occurred to me because I figured a live hacking would've been much more of an experience than what it wa...

Re: ran into a firefox virus (scamware)

Hi "coder123", I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well. Sounds like you did the right thing terminating the browser... If I were you, I would have both "uBlock origin" (ad blocker) and "NoScript" installed because they perform two different functions. ...

Re: ran into a firefox virus (scamware)

Well, the fact that noscript worked here prettty much confirms what I suspected ... it ain't a virus, it's likely a javascript redirect. Viruses in Linux are pretty much unknown in the wild. I know some fairly serious Linux/Unix guys who've been using Linux for about 20 years and not one of them us...

Isn't it obvious in a general sense? If I said what the site was I'd probably be breaking forum rules and even if not I don't want to anyway.
What was that experience, a popup?
Being able to be affected by something that acted like a virus/malware on a browser level.

ran into a firefox virus (scamware)

Hey I just wanted to give a heads up to those who don't already know that even though we run Linux Mint we can still into something that affects the web browser with virus behavior. Fortunately for us the broswer acts as a sandbox but if I was on Windows my while system might've froze. The stupid po...

Re: Linux Mint Keylogger

I think you guys are confusing malware Keyloggers installed by those who wish to capture other people's info and a Keylogger you install on your own computer . The office I used to work in used Keyloggers to make sure employees were working when they were supposed to and to make sure no one was sha...

Re: errore aggiornamenti

I struggle to think of a non malicious use case for this ... Studying purposes might be one. - Wonder a bit why it is present in the official repos. @Karlchen I wondered the same thing you're saying and all it did was lead me to wish that there was a way to contact the creator of the repo. System a...
