I got it to work once. The next time I turned on my computer, it wouldn't work again. I tried the NDISWrapper first. I then tried the method that doesn't use NDISWrapper. Neither would work. It shows routers, but always says "connection failed."

I tried the NDISWrapper. It worked until I shut down and restarted later. it keeps saying "Connection failed." I cleared everything out and started over, doing it the other way that was described. I got similar results. It recognizes the hardware, is happy with it, finds routers, but "connection fai...

How to remove Mint/Grub

I'm about to dedicate a desktop computer to Linux, so I want to remove the whole thing from my multiboot laptop. How can I remove Grub so that it will just go to the XP/Vista boot screen?

Now I'm setting up my daughter's computer. I can't install Synaptic! It's grayed out, and won't respond to my click. How can I install "bcm43xx-fwcutter" and "wlassistant" without it?

Wow! I just read all this, and I'm confused. Can someone who is more experienced than I am summarize those instructions in terms that newbies might grasp more easily? I start with the #, and nothing happens. I'm thinking that's the remarks symbol. That first block, "Preparing the kernal" has code, b...

Beryl on KDE doesn't seem to quite work.

I managed to stumble (I'm new...) through and get Beryl installed. Everything seemed to work, and it downloaded a bunch of stuff, but then when I went to run "beryl-administrator" (something like that) it didn't work. I looked in the /usr/bin folder, and beryl wasn't there. Any suggestions?

Can someone tell me what shell commands will turn on or off my wireless card? I don't want to give up on this. Last night, I grabbed a Linspire Live CD, to verify there wasn't a hardware issue. Wireless worked on it. Help! Edit: Nevermind! I finally got off my a** and looked around this web site and...

Good point! I'm still learning, though. I suppose if I log on as root and screw something up, it's my own fault if I have to reformat my hard drive.

I was doing something entirely different, and found that if I changed root's password, and logged in as root, I could do whatever I wanted without those access denied thingies.

I should be posting new posts instead of editing. I just tried 2.6.17.10. No changes. I still can't get it to come on. I continue to poke around. I even tried using the Windows Wireless Drivers. They all saw the WLAN interface, but still couldn't turn it on.

It does appear. I tried disabling everything else and just enabling it. It goes through the "Activating network interface" popup, and seems to work. But, it never becomes available. When I go to Network Tools, it never becomes a choice in Network device. So, where do I get the 2.6.17.10 kernal, and ...

It works perfectly in MS Crap, um, Win. It worked a few months back when I tried Linspire. It is detected by Mint. Mint knows more about it than MSWin. MSWin knows it's a Broadcom. Mint knows it's a 4318, AirForce One, etc. It seems to work as far as being detected, but it will not become part of th...

Ok, call me an idiot. :D

I went to do the first step--editing xorg.conf. It won't let me because the file is read-only. I'm new to this--having just installed it last night, but I'm a fast learner. What am I missing?

Thanks!

Edit:

Cancel that! I figured it out.

Broadcom WLAN

I have a Presario V2555 with a Broadcom WLAN based on the 4318 chip. I can't get it to work at all. The LED under the button that turns it on and off doesn't come on at all. I press the button, and nothing. Any ideas?
