Re: Home Networking Question

Thanks folks, I think I have all I need to get through this. I'll just have to do the work in a day or so.

I'll leave this thread open for a few more days just in case someone wants to drop another gem of knowledge on me...

Cheers,

Jack

Re: Home Networking Question

Can you access the control panel web page for the routers? Hi, I just updated my previous post and then noticed your question. The basement router is the DHCP server and it is off on the upstairs router. Those have both been running for a few years and my interactions with them have been minimal. I...

Re: Home Networking Question

Thanks for the quick reply and explanation. Is the basement router connected to the living room router WAN or LAN port? I just looked at that, it is on one of the four regular ports. Nothing is on the WAN/LAN (actually labelled "Internet) port. Is that something I should change? If so, I'll bet the ...

Re: Creating icons

OK, I don't know how I missed it before but a right click brings up choices that include "Desktop >" and that flyout has the settings for size and other details about the Desktop icons. Thanks for the help! I guess us old geezers just need it... :>) And you're right about the 19.2 thing too of cours...

Re: Creating icons

Icons can come in various sizes. I have a folder in my Home directory for my icon collection. This makes it easy to change to an icon that appeals to me. Formats vary: jpg, png, ico, ICO, gif, svg. They are just images. Sizes vary: 32, 48, 64, 96, 128 and bigger. Have a closer look at the icons you...

I had to be in the Panel Edit Mode, thei click on Troubleshoot, then I had the option of resetting the panel to the default settings. Thanks for...

[SOLVED] My Panel is going beserk!

For years I had the Menu icon on the left side, then next to it, four icons for four apps from the Menu listing. In the last week or so the Menu has moved to the right side (just left of all the various status icons). I have been through the panel settings, modify panel, trouble shoot panel, and I h...

Suspend Recovery without Password entry

I use my laptop only at home and don't need to restrict any other users. So I have it set up to log me in automatically on startup. When it suspend due to lack of activity (after 15 minutes) it logs me out as a user and I have to enter my password to wake it back up. I can't find a setting that woul...

Re: Wi-Fi not working on ThinkPad SL510

Whoopee! You fixed it!

Got a new menu and was able to enable wifi from there, and then I got my normal menu back, connected, all is working fine.

Can you tell me, in layman's terms, what that last command did?

I don't see any result for that command:

jack@jack-SL510:~$
Tried it with and without su...

[SOLVED] Wi-Fi not working on ThinkPad SL510

I recently copied my LM19 install from a Toshiba laptop to a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop. The new laptop had a W7 install on it and I used clonezilla to copy root and home images to new partitions and then running the LM19 install from a USB stick to get the grub and dual boot working. All my data appear...

Re: Debian or Ubuntu - Which version of wine is best for Mint Linux?

OK, that explains how I got the impression that Debian was involved I guess. I'm sure if I had studied the history of Mint I would have known more. I'm very happy with having changed from Windows to Linux about two years ago. I still can dual boot to windows (7 Home Premium now) but only use it a co...

Re: Debian or Ubuntu - Which version of wine is best for Mint Linux?

Thanks for the quick reply. And there is a strong logic in what you say for sure! I don't think I ever recall reading that before and, for some reason, had gotten a vague impression as I eased into becoming a linux user (back around V 16) that the Debian versions were the best choice. But now I know...

[SOLVED] Debian or Ubuntu - Which version of wine is best for Mint Linux?

I am running Mint 19 64=bit Cinnamon on a Toshiba Satellite L675D that has a dual core AMD processor. I do not have wine installed yet and have looked at it on the WineHQ wiki pages. The Wine download page here: https://wiki.winehq.org/Download Lists two apparent candidates and I wonder if there is ...

Re: Samsung S6 Phone USB Driver - Toshiba L675 Laptop

Now it is working! I found and installed this program - go-mtpfs These two were already found as installed: libmtp9 - most likely installed already jmtpf And I enabled the "File Transfer" setting too and eventually I got the prompt to Deny or Allow access and then was able to see all the data on my ...

Re: Samsung S6 Phone USB Driver - Toshiba L675 Laptop

Thanks for the replies... I had suspected that I must have been missing something because I had not ever had any problems connecting and seeing both devices and being able to move files between them as I progressed from Mint 16 to 19 and 32 and 64 bit implementations until I got to this Toshiba. I w...

[SOLVED] Samsung S6 Phone USB Driver - Toshiba L675 Laptop

I am running Mint 19 64 bit on a Toshiba Satellite L675D laptop and it will not recognize a Samsung S6 cell phone when it is connected. It will charge the phone but I cannot see the contexts of the phone and the phone is not seeing itself as connected either (I would normally have to Allow access fo...
